I've lived in Reno for 15 years and only recently was encouraged to visit Harts Fine Jewelry for some minor jewelry repair and engraving. A girlfriend of mine had recently been referred to this shop and was very happy. Jeff, the owner is wonderful to work with and gets the work done promptly. It's a very nice shop in a strip mall adjacent to the Atlantis right off Moana. I plan on bringing more pieces to Jeff for minor repairs and sizings. This is a high end jeweler with great stuff. I'm just not in the market for any new jewelry ... but if I were, I'd check this place out first. They did some jewelry repair for me. I had a gold chain that I bought in Greece a number of years ago for very little money. Wasn't sure if it was worth fixing or should I just sell it for the gold value. She assured me it was definitely worth way more than I paid for it and absolutely worth fixing. They did a great job on the fix. Also, I get my many watch batteries here. He gets one star because he does good work. However, do not sell anything to this guy. He lied to me about what kind of stone I had and the value was. With my limited knowledge and his referral from a friend, I believed him. I sold him a stone that he valued under$10,000 and he offered me $3,000, told me he had to pay $2900 to get it evaluated properly and then he needed to make profit. I thought that sounded fair enough. Today when I was in his store, I found the stone with a price tag of $50,000. He tried to claim it was mismarked and should have been$5,000. I googled the stone and he was outright lying to me. Don't trust this guy and don't sell to him. read more

I brought a 14K mens gold Geneve watch for a new battery. The gentleman put the battery in quickly and I left. That was about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I went out shopping at the mall, and then stopped for lunch. When I returned and took off the watch the back plate was missing, it had fallen off during the day. I contacted the places that I had been, and no luck. This was a vintage watch I bought at auction and is now pretty much useless except for the scrap gold price. Needless to say I was terribly upset at this. I do want to add that I had previously had this watch repaired at Hart's and had no problem. Unfortunately, having a lost back plate I can't recommend this establishment. read more

Upon recommendation from a friend, I took my engagement ring to Hart's to be appraised and re-sized. A big draw of Hart's is that they re-size on site instead of sending the jewelry--the last thing I wanted was to send my engagement ring away for weeks! I dropped my ring off this morning at about 11 a.m. and was told that I could expect it to be ready by tomorrow evening or the next day at the latest. At 3 o'clock p.m., Hart's called me to tell me my ring was ready! FOUR HOURS! When I showed up, Jeff was very helpful in explaining the appraisal to me to ensure I understood all of the details. The re-sized ring fit perfectly and, though I did not buy my ring there (they have beautiful rings, though!), informed me they will clean my ring for free as often as I want and to "stop in anytime you're in the area--the more often, the better--you'll never be bothering us." I am so impressed with Hart's customer service and will definitely be back! read more

Hart's has been my fiancée's jewelers since he moved to Reno. So since we've been together, it's naturally been the place to get any jewelry cleaned, re-sized, appraised, etc. Earlier this year, I stopped in to get my grandmother's ring clean and appraised. I've had the ring for close to 20 years now and it has always just sat in my jewelry box. Before that, it was her wedding ring and she wore it daily for at least 20 years or more. I'll be honest, I had no idea that it could be THAT shiny! Jeff did a fantastic job cleaning the ring and the appraisal was done within 24 hours. I had always meant to do something with the ring, I just didn't know what. Maybe a necklace? Maybe reuse it in my own wedding ring someday? I just didn't know, but I wanted to know what I had and what could be done with it. For this visit, the customer service was excellent, the pricing was spot on and it was all done fast. What could be better? Well, fast forward six months. Unbeknownst to me, Jason took Grandma's ring back in and had the setting removed to turn into a necklace and added a new, larger diamond to her original band for me. The necklace was my birthday present, and the ring was done as my engagement ring. So now, my family jewelry is in a necklace and part of my own engagement ring. Both pieces are absolutely stunning! The ring needed a bit of resizing and that's free since the ring was mostly purchased at the store and it can be cleaned whenever I want at no charge. They were extremely helpful here. My engagement ring was not purchased here but I needed it resized. They were willing to resize it for me and were able to do it in house in under 4 hours. They found the ideal size for my ring, which was perfect because I had no idea what the correct ring size was for my finger. They also offered to clean the ring when it was needed for free. I had my engagement ring resized here last year. Very affordable pricing and it was quick. They also cleaned it for free. But! Just yesterday I realized my ring was snagging on things and I felt what I thought was a small chip in my diamond. Sad days... The ring was given to my fiance from his mother who passed recently. Not replaceable. I went into Hart's and the staff took a look and decided that it wasn't a chip after all, but just a small stone blemish that was originally part of the cut and only needed a little polishing. What a relief! They could have just easily told me it needed to be recut but they didn't. Instead, they polished it for free and I was out the door. I recently had my engagement ring (a family heirloom) reshanked, and it and my wedding band resized here. The engagement ring is a delicate, complex piece of work in white gold that required careful professional handling, so we got a few estimates from the jewelers who rated best in the BBB and elsewhere. The sales manager at Harts was a relief after I'd dealt with some high-end jewelry salespeople elsewhere: he was understated, knowledgeable, and willing to talk facts and cost instead of pushing expensive extras. He provided me a detailed estimate of what needed to be done, and explained what each step involved and why it was necessary. The estimate was reasonable, so I had them do the work. It took them six days, just as they had estimated. The rings came out beautiful and fit perfectly. I saw several nice pieces in the store after I picked up my rings, including one absolutely lovely high-grade amethyst solitaire. I don't usually wear classic-style fine jewelry, but if I did want something of that sort, this is where I would start in Reno. read more

While on a vacation in January with my girlfriend we stopped in to look for a small token of our trip. After looking around for a few minutes a man introduced himself and asked if he could help us out. When I explained our need to purchase something as a memory of our trip. He tried to sell me a high priced ring. When I explained that it was higher than we wanted to spend he said then we should just leave because he didn't sell costume jewelry. Really set us back to hear someone talk like that. We returned to our hotel and let the front desk know of our displeasure with harts jewelry. The woman at the desk said we weren't the only ones that she had heard complaints about. She recommended a store called the Diamond Vault and said she had great things about this store. I took my watch in for a new battery. They told me that it needed to be sent away for cleaning for $100.00. I did not do this, so I purchased another watch. Yesterday I took the watch to Fancy Design Jewelers and they replaced the battery and it is working like a charm. I would not recommend Hart's Jewelry based on my experience. read more
