I'm 21 years old and have always been terrified of going to the dentist since I was little. After 8…read moreyears of dental dodging, I finally developed a few cavities and quite a bit of pain. I broke down and realized I needed help. Fortunately, I stumbled upon Dr. Gonsman. Aside from being very close to my home, he brought me in hours within me calling to schedule an appt. I waited less than 3 minutes in the waiting room to get back to the exam room. His assistant took me back and took my xrays. Everyone was extremely friendly. The Dr came in and was very pleasant. He talked to me through the entire exam and gave me soooo much helpful info. and my cleaning was great too. He showed me on my xrays exactly where and what i needed done. He gave me the option between silver and composite fillings and explained each very clearly, making sure to let me know the composites may cost a little more. I opted for the composites for their color, and To my surprise, the composites were incredibly afforable even with my insurance paying only a little over half. A week later he put in my 5 composites, and although I was extremely anxious being that I've never had fillings, they did everything they could to make sure I was comfortable and had as little pain as possible. He talked to me through the procedure, allowed my husband to be around for my comfort and made sure to let me know to tell him if I had any pain at all during and stopped as soon as I had any and took care of it. He took his time on my teeth and they turned out beautifully. After it was all said and done they made payment arrangements with me and my tight budget to pay off my work(which was a great price, even with me being on unemployment) This was an absolutely wonderful experience for me and for the first time in my life Im EXCITED to go back to the dentist. I will definitely be recommending Dr Gonsman to friends and family. This is how dentistry should be. Comfortable. Inviting. Informative. Thorough.

Let me preface this by saying this is the first yelp review I've ever written. For me to take the…read moretime to do so should tell you something. Scammers. There's no nice way to say it. Stay away from Aspen Dental...period. I visited the Altoona office this past week. I will say they were very thorough with xrays, but that's the only positive you'll get out of me. What I can't wrap my head around is how a cleaning was going to cost me 3600 dollars. That's with me having really good dental insurance. All due to my gum disease requiring an antibiotic. When I said "well then let's just skip the antibiotic that isn't covered by my insurance and get a regular cleaning", I was turned away and told that it was part of the procedure. Absolute horse manure. I'd like to know what antibiotic costs 112 dollars, and that's per tooth. This is predatory. Let's make sure we add as much as we can to this client's bill, and make sure it's not covered by insurance. This business model shouldn't thrive, but when most of your income is from feeding off insecurity and vanity, for some reason it does. Now I'm also in the same boat as a previous yelper where I have to wait another 6 months just to get my teeth cleaned. Aspen did absolutely nothing for me but somehow that counts as a cleaning. I mean, they did give me a tiny cup of mouthwash while I was there. I'm beyond livid.

Ok, I was referred to Kaczor because of the type of dental coverage I have. The referring dentist…read morewas hesitant and now I know why. I was looking for an oral surgeon to remove three of my teenage son's baby teeth. He is missing 5 adult teeth and still had 3 baby teeth in their places (both incisors and a bottom molar). The molar had fused to the jaw bone. So, not really just a quick pull type of situation. When I first called and explained what my son needed they were very helpful, right up to the point that they asked what insurance I had. I currently am on medical assistance. My husband had become deathly ill and was forced out of work due to the illness (which he had 18 surgeries in 22 months and still nearly died), therefore we had no choice but to use the assistance available to us, which has literally been a blessing. We would have been homeless without it. At that point the woman on the phone told me that we didn't qualify to have his teeth removed. He needed to have 4 or more teeth removed in order to "be covered". I was confused and called the insurance company. They explained that he was most definitely covered for as many or as few teeth needed to be removed. Still confused I questioned why I would have been told that and if the doctor is able to set insurance qualifications such as 4 or more teeth. I was told no. They either accept the coverage or they don't and if they do they must abide by the allowances made by the insurance coverage not by their own choosing. So, I call back to the office and see if I can figure out what the misunderstanding is. As soon as the woman heard my name she said "I already told you that you don't qualify" I went on to explain what I had been told by the insurance company and her response was "Those people know what our requirements are, we have told them repeatedly. They are idiots. They keep sending 'you people' (with the sound in her voice like she was trying not to vomit) to us when you don't meet our requirements." I asked exactly what she meant by 'you people'. Her response "who live on assistance". To say I was shocked and upset is an understatement. I calmly and quickly explained my husbands illness that put us in the need of assistance in the first place and then told her that I hope no one ever treats her they way she clearly treats "you people'. She then hung up on me. I called the insurance company back and was given other surgeons that accept "you people". The first one I called was the closest after Kaczor and is over an hour from where I live but I will happily drive it to get my son the care he needs from people who actually want to treat him. If you are near Phillipsburg, PA or don't mind the drive....call Drs. Rice and Ali 814-375-0500. We were treated with care and respect and able to schedule for the surgery in less than a week.

I am nearly 5 months pregnant and took him in at a little before 9am. I hadn't eaten or had even a drink with me because I figured I would go a few blocks down and get something once he went in. Wrong! The staff was very rude and even blocked the door so I couldn't leave. I had to at least lock up my car and make a call for someone to bring me something so I didn't get sick. I was standing on the steps in front of the door for maybe 5 minutes. Never moved my car just locked it up. Meanwhile the doctor first tells my bf that if I wasn't back in 5 miniutes that he would not use anesthesia (only novacaine) to surgically remove 11 teeth. Then told him that he checked the parking lot and that my vehicle was not there so I must have left so he was going to cancel his surgery. As I stood out front of the door calling family the secretary came out as though something was Wong and told me I needed to come now. Only to be told I had to sit in the waiting room right now, which was 10 feet from the door. So as I am waiting for someone to bring me a drink etc. I am then told that I am not even allowed to go out and get the stuff when it is brought. A short while later I am taken to a back room and made to shut my phone off (so now I can't even be contacted when my family arrives). I still had to wait another 30 minutes before he was discharged and at that point they suggested that maybe someone else take care of him. All we asked for was 10 minutes for me to get a drink and some food so I could take my medicines , had I not been pregnant it wouldn't have been a big deal. They made no sense when they said I had to stay in case something happens, well it's not as if I was going to be allowed back in the room if something went bad Or they needed me to call amed. I just feel the staff should have informed us more before hand. Never have I heard of any doctors office or hospital for any procedure telling someone they had to stay inside the building, couldn't be outside the doors even to get a drink. They were extremely rude about the entire situation and the Dr lying to him that I had apparently gotten in my car and snuck away when I went out to lock my vehicle was absolutely unprofessional. Maybe it's just my pregnancy hormones and being sick on a daily basis doesn't help. I thought I was trying to do the nice thing and didn't sit and.ear and drink in front of him at home and would do it while he was in the appointment, WRONG!
