The worst experience. In February I arrived for my appointment after almost 1hour of waiting in the room I asked the nurse what was going on because I had been in the room waiting , then I here the doctor, and He goes into the next room to see somebody that just came in, I waited another 20 minutes, when I was leaving he comes in like nothing. Unforgivable, for a Doctor. Shame on you, they still have the nerve to send me a $165 dollar invoice. read more

I had a knee replacement at UCSD (Medi-Cal) and something is terribly wrong with it and I went to five specialists trying to find answers and I got shoulder shrugs because it's impossible to get a good reading with an MRI or CT scan of what really could be going on since I've not been able to walk up or down stairs in 2 1/2 years without assistance. Everyone kept pointing at this doctor, saying he's your guy, and during the first consultation he came in with a big syringe needle and started testing right away. Now I don't have insurance for him, but this is a legal case, then he made his diagnostic notes and then sent me for nerve testing again both of those didn't show any real problems so now he's the only one willing to make a 9 inch incision and do exploratory surgery but we're both in agreement that it could be the synovium that keeps leaking and swelling and causing the inflammation every day... wish me luck! Being a young person in pain, I've had SO MANY doctors write off my pain since I am 'so young'. Dr. Muldoon was the first dr I've met to see that my pain was legitimate, listen to what I had to say and would show him, and ran all the tests to get answers. He did arthroscopic hip surgery on me fixing a previous bad arthroscopic hip surgery I had had done and fixed multiple other things wrong. It means the world to me that he actually listened to what I had to say and saw that something was legitimately wrong and wasn't just another doctor who wrote me off as being 'too young'. -The office can be a bit hard to get ahold of someone. I started just leaving a voicemail and if no one called me back I would just call the days following and would usually get ahold of someone that way. read more

This is a busy practice that can be tough to negotiate but the end result totally was well worth it. I had been through the medical treadmill for 3 years with a bad hip and knee. While on active duty, I suffered from a labral tear in my right hip. This injury caused me to lose my career and everything I had worked hard for. I had lost all motivation because of this injury. In the span of two years I had seen a variety of doctors, including a surgeon at the Navel hospital in San Diego. Every doctor treated me like I was nothing, that my injury didn't matter and I was to "young" to have the pain I was describing. As soon as I went to Dr. Muldoon, this all changed. The first visit I had I knew he would take care of me. Within two months I was preparing for surgery by receiving pain medication, and a COVID-19 test. As soon as my surgery was complete Dr. Muldoon himself contacted my husband to inform him how surgery went. This particular act means a lot to myself and my spouse as he could've continued on with his day and completely forget about me. Following the surgery, I was sent home to rest and use the CPM machine. Within the week I was up walking (with assistance of course) and on the road to recovery. At a week post op, I met with Dr. McNutt and he explained the protocol following my recovery. Since than, I have returned to a fully functional, happy life and I could not be more grateful! Overall, I was very satisfied with the service provided by Dr. Muldoon, Dr. McNutt and the nurses. They did a fantastic job, I highly recommend them! read more

Dr. Muldoon is the kind of doctor that other hip specialists say to go to just because they know he's the best. There is nobody better than him. Dr. Muldoon and his staff deserve 5 stars. It was a miracle that I found him. I tore my labrum and I had a hip impingement. My labrum was so thin that it took very fine tools and the best doctor to fix my problem. Dr. Muldoon helped me to get back on my feet in no time. He provided me with all the devices and best physical therapy to get better ASAP! His staff was so kind and accommodating. There was one night where I didn't eat enough food with my pills and my stomach hurt me terribly. I didn't know what to do so I called Dr.Muldoon's office after hours and they connected me to him at 9pm PST. It was Friday night and he was at a family gathering and he answer at 12am ET just to help me! I can't thank him enough for what he did for me. read more

I'm 6 months removed from extensive hip labrum repair surgery and I just received the green light to resume limited physical activity! The surgery went extremely well considering they found much more damage than originally expected. Dr. Muldoon, his assistants, and staff have been friendly, insightful, and extremely helpful throughout this entire process. I have been thoroughly disappointed in this office, his staff, and the follow through with tests. Dr. Muldoon's bedside manner showed no compassion, he was cold and unwilling to speak to me about my diagnosis. My husband and I are both in the medical field, we were treated as we had no knowledge. I've been waiting over a month for an MRI to be SCHEDULED- and I'm supposed to have a follow up for the results this week. I can't get anyone to call me back. I would never recommend him to anyone. I come from a long history of hip problems. When my husband and I moved out to San Diego in 2015 I needed to find a new Orthopedic Surgeon to finish helping me with my hip issues. I was recommended to use him by another local Orthopedic Doctor. He was extremely rude, and I ended up leaving his office in tears because of how I was treated. Fast forward to last week, and what sparked this review. I frequently check my credit score to make sure I keep it nice, when I noticed that I had his office on my report as in collections. It was only recently opened at the beginning of the month ( almost 2 years from the date I saw him). I called the office to find out what the problem was, I was given a completely different number for billing and needed to leave multiple messages for a returned call. After getting no response from them I called my insurance company who informed me they never saw a claim from this Doctor. After receiving a call back I find out that the office did not have the correct address, or the correct ID information to be able to submit to my insurance. There was no phone call to fix this problem, and obviously with the wrong address I never was able to receive anything via mail. I was told that it would most likely be denied by my insurance company due to the amount of time since I have been seen. It would then be brought to the doctor to decide what to do from there. This would mean that if my insurance said No sorry it has been to long.... I would end up responsible for the amount, due to the negligence of this office. read more

The 2 stars are ONLY for the office staff. If I were only rating Dr. Muldoon, his P.A. Kellie Johnson or the X-ray technician, Bill, I would give them 5 stars- undoubtedly! Getting back to the 2 stars, on some days even 2 stars seem generous. Below is why: - ALL office staff are curt, disorganized and rarely pleasant when interacting with patients. Instead their behavior seems more like everyone visiting the doctor is an inconvenience to them. - The modus operandi record keeping and scheduling practices with this office are so glaringly dysfunctional! Specifically with regards to everything from the distribution of pre-operation paperwork, information about the surgery- what is to be expected, scheduling pre-surgery lab work, post-surgery follow up visits and it's almost laughable how inept their billing department is. It would be laughable if I hadn't been told repeatedly for five months that I had a zero balance and owed nothing when I was in the office then only to receive a bill for nearly $500. Which I had to pay since their office manager, Lisa, DOES NOT return calls nor emails and my account was being sent to collections. This was more than frustrating. It is so wildly unacceptable and unprofessional- not just that I had to pay this amount but that the office manager herself is either so inept or so under supported that she does not return any form of correspondence with patients. Collectively, the office staff themselves have been such painful interactions that if I were to need another surgery I would be reluctant to come back just because the experience of hip surgery was painful enough that having to endure the attitudes, ineptitudes and unfavorable demeanors of these women, for multiple times a month for nearly a year, really sullied my experience of the office. - Lastly, and possibly a tie for upsetting is Dr. Muldoon's nurse, Barbara. The highlights of my experiences with her are as follows: no glove use with super long fake nails- premature suture removal without gloves, not reading my chart and ordering x-rays of the wrong hip immediately after I had had surgery- literally I was still on crutches. The most horribly unforgettable experience was during my first post-surgery office visit when she proceeded to try to remove the sutures out from my hip but ripped one out when she realized that this was wrong when my wound began bleeding she then applied alcohol to the wound to clean it and blew air from her uncovered mouth onto my open wound to apparently dry the area so she could adhere surgical glue. WTF?!? Does this woman really work within the field of medicine? I am merely a teacher and I know the basics of germ theory/creating a sterile field. Really lady? Blow on my wound with your dirty ass mouth and to top it not wear gloves?!? That experience was both reminiscent and worse than the medical care I received in a third world country. Anyhow, 6 months post hip surgery and I can walk again so that's fantastic and if you'd have asked me if I thought I'd be almost pain free and walking nearly normally half a year ago I couldn't even have entertained that I was in so much pain. So, thank you Dr. Muldoon, thank you Kellie and Bill for being awesome! It's too bad all of the other staff in the office are so dang bad at their jobs to support you guys. read more

Excellent Dr. yet the worst and most uncaring and apathetic staff we have ever encountered. Two hour wait times are common due to poor scheduling. They are never at the front desk to where we have had to CALL the office were sitting in and listen to the phone ring multiple times in the back until someone answers. Dr. Muldoon replaced my right hip about six years ago and I'll never forget how, prior to my being wheeled to the surgery room, he visited with me to see how i was doing. While there, he checked out the leg/hip that he was preparing to fix for me and then, before leaving, said: "Your right leg is a quarter inch shorter than your left leg. While i'm in there, if you'd like, i can make it a quarter inch longer. Wow! Prior to his telling me so, i had no idea that one of my legs was shorter than the other. Nor that a clicking sound that my ankle made when walking might be connected. Well, it was either a huge coincidence or it was the quarter inch adjustment but, after the surgery, the very annoying, clicking completely disappeared. An incredibly welcome bonus! Then recently ( 01/15/19 ) i went back to Dr. Muldoon for a left hip replacement and amazingly, experienced another welcome side effect:: A few weeks after the surgery i noticed that i could stand in place as long as I wanted to, with zero discomfort while, prior to the surgery there was no way that i could stand in place for any more than a few minutes, without my having to lean against something or sit down. As far as i am concerned, when it comes to hip replacement surgeons, Dr. Muldoon is as good as it gets!! I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank PA Dr. Ron and his staff for their timely, courteous and effective, late evening follow-up re. a 'rash' complication on my first night after returning home. Ron McNutt the PA is a McNutcase! He doesn't seem qualified to play the game of Operation let alone work in a medical office. Saw him twice post op and he didn't look at my chart once before speaking to me, let alone physical therapy notes, didnt know about the cortisone injection last visit, or MRIs. He blamed the complications on "Gravity" once (shout out to my flat Earthers) 8 months post op and still in more pain than I've ever been in! Ron Mcnutface says that's not from your surgery. Didn't offer xrays or try to think of any causes of problems or solutions just pointing the finger and blaming someone else. And Ron if you respond to this post I'm taking LEGAL ACTION against You for malpractice. You are not helping me progress, you do not have my well being in any interest of yours! Horrible horrible HORRIBLE STAFF. My entire experience with this place has been a nightmare. The front office is non responsive, they 'lose paperwork' and 'forgot to call' the insurance company so I have 1-2 months periods of no physical therapy. The customer service if you can call it that is absolutely unacceptable. Now onto Muldoon, initially he seemed like a good dr. That was initially. He was late to my surgery almost an hour, my follow up meeting with him was 5 minutes where he brushed me off and passed me onto his staff to meet another patient . My initial consultation with Dr Muldoon was very impressive. I have been experiencing extreme hip/groin pain for almost 8 months and already have MRIs showing what part of the problem is. The first specialist I saw came highly recommended, but she did not impress me, nor did she explain a lot to me. Dr. Muldoon was incredible. He has an xray room in his office, and his xray technician knew exactly how to position me to get the images Dr. Muldoon needed. Dr. Muldoon reviewed the xrays and my MRI, and did a physical exam, and he was able to explain how 3 different problematic factors came together to cause the severe pain on my right side, and he was able to explain other issues that was causing the less severe pain on my left side. I have a complicated medical picture in general, and he was still able to work with me and come up with a plan for next steps (I felt very dismissed by the other specialist). So, I am hopeful now that I may be able to reduce the pain, over time, that is disabling to me right now. read more

Update on my review. I want through a series of three gel injections without the machine they are required to use to route the injections. This was extremely painful and 100% unnecessary as my knee had a severed miniscus which he wouldn't properly diagnose. Not only did I have a torn miniscus but on a scale of 1-10 for damage my knee was a 9! The bone was bleeding from the miniscus damage. He had no right to put me through these gel injections they were costly and useless and now he sent me to collections for the remainder of my balance for the injections. I have been fighting the balance but the office has been no help. I sent a certified letter and received no response back. Incompetent doctor, poor office communication and I would rate this doctor a complete fail. Go to a Scripps doctor. Sharp Orthopedic doctors are just not good. Hey Doc, wipe off the balance and get your collection agency to correct the balance to zero and fix it on my credit asap. read more

This review is tough. Dr. Muldoon is great, professional and the only game in town for hip surgeries. The reason for a single star is the office staff. It's overwhelming and incredibly stressful to deal with their ineptitude and complete lack of caring. If you go with Muldoon, plan on the staff never returning calls, ignoring voicemails, not following through on anything promised. I've been trying to get a follow-up appointment for three weeks and even with calling them every 4-5 days, they're still ignoring my requests. It's really, really bad. read more

Stay away from this Dr. I had partial knee replacement 3 years ago ( he didn't suggest a full replacement ). My knee NEVER got better I've been living with worse pain than before the surgery, and now I need full replacement probably on both knees. He won't even prescribe you pain medication. It is almost impossible to get in touch with his assistant Ron (didn't even get to see the Dr.) the whole office staff is not friendly and you never get calls back. They just don't care! That Ron PA is unbelievable. No common sense. I came in with hip pain and he told me, no, it doesn't look like there's a problem with my hips, and it could be my back, and I needed to have a MRI of my back. Absolutely unbelievable. And his "hip joint manipulation" test could have easily caused me more hip damage if I didn't resist him as much as I did. He was very rough, and didn't even ask if I had other joint problems - which I do - my knee. When I finally saw Dr. Muldoon, like 5 months after trying to make my first appointment, it was like he was in a rush and exhausted. He didn't even really care to hear or think about what was going on with me. It's like he gave me his standard rant about a hip surgery and then left. I kept having to press him in order to make progress in the direction that he should be taking things in. And not only that, but they sent me a bill for almost $1000 for all of this - which was for the full amount - no insurance coverage. Even though I have a PPO which works everywhere else I go. And I wrote to them and called them about this, but - nothing. They keep sending me the same full-charge bill. read more

His office staff is the worst I have ever dealt with. He is a good surgeon but his office staff is rude and mean!!!

First of all this would be 5 stars, but it is kind of a nightmare to schedule an appointment. I am 32 years old, and have had chronic hip pain for over a year. I have a regular ortho Dr. that I have been seeing for several years for other problems. Last year I went to him complaining about my hip pain. He ordered an MRArthrogram, and noticed I had some labral tears, and a partial detachment. He recommend that I go see Dr. Muldoon. I have a family friend who works for another Ortho- so I saw him just to get as many opinions as possible before jumping into surgery. This other Dr. Scrolled through the CD with MRArthrogram images, told me "80% of people have labral tears and they are fine." Told me to do some PT and forget about it. I was VERY disappointed in him. So, when I finally saw Dr. Muldoon, I was so happy! He actually seemed to care. He had me fill out several questionnaires about the type of pain I was having and my lifestyle. He took X-rays, preformed several range of motion tests, and took measurement. He confirmed that I did in fact have a problem. He advised me to try PT, and cortisone shots. If neither worked we would discuss surgery options. Long story short, I had surgery at the end of December. Turns out the tears and detachment weren't my only problem, but he fixed me up. It will be a while before I am 100%, but I feel so much better. I have been experiencing pain in my left hip for over 6 months. Dr. Muldoon was able to determine that I had a Hip Labral tear that was not going to heal on its own. Within a week of my initial visit, he had me scheduled for surgery. Between him, his Physicians Assistant Ron and the rest of his team, they have been nothing short of AMAZING with me. Immediately after surgery, I developed a bladder infection, and Ron provided an after hours number for me to contact, to keep them up to date with how I was progressing. This group has really treated me with care and respect. One week post op, I am already off of my crutches, and working towards a normal life!!! What a splendid medical office. From the first phone call to make my appointment, to the fruition of my exam! Everybody was wonderful. The office staff overcame a snafu with the referral from my primary care doctor.Once again,the office office staff came to my rescue and scheduled an appointment as soon as possible. Leo did my exays with kindness,taking great care with my painful knees. Then, my hero PA Ron McNutt took my pain away. After a complete examination of my knees, Ron suggested injections for the pain. He is so experienced at these injections,I never felt the needles. I know that the injections don't offer a a cure but I also know, I have an office full of wonderful people who will be there the next time for me when I need them. read more

I am 25 years old and suffer from multiple deformities of bones in my legs. I was referred to Dr. Muldoon by another surgeon due to the location of my surgical needs and my unique case after YEARS of trying to find answers and solutions for my knee and hip pain. Muldoon has been nothing but fantastic as well as his entire surgical team. His in office staff were a little hit or a miss at first, however my actual surgical experience has been phenomenal and the day I got my surgery date the in office staff attentive levels completely changed and I am currently getting amazing care. I had an upper femoral derotational osteotomy and repair of a labrial tear in my hip. I could have had a huge scar down my leg- but Muldoon took the care to hire a specific trauma team to minimize my damage as much as possible. I have 8 very small incision points- and will barely scar whatsoever. I am recovering phenomenally and can physically see and feel a huge difference already. I am so grateful for Dr Muldoon and his staff and I am so excited to continue this journey. My life has seriously been changed, and will continue to be changed in ways that are unimaginable. I know my unique case will be a journey, but I am so grateful that I am able to take it with such a talented surgeon. THANK YOU Dr Muldoon, you have seriously changed my life. For the first time in 25 years I am optimistic that my legs won't continue to restrict me and that one day, when this is all said and done, I will be able to finally move on and not live in constant fear of injuring myself doing minuscule tasks. Dr. Muldoon is fantastic. I had total hip replacement on 10-29-18. The surgery went fantastic and my pain after surgery never exceeded a 3 out of 10. My recovery went ahead of schedule and I feel that this surgery gave me my life back. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Muldoon and his staff. The surgical center Dr. Muldoon chose was state of the art and that staff was fantastic. The post op care Dr. Muldoon arranged including physical therapy was fantastic and I felt it was care similar to what pro athletes would receive. While Dr. Muldoon is a perfectly competent surgeon with decent bedside manner, his office is the exact opposite. Every appointment I have had I have waited over half an hour, often over an hour to even be escorted to an exam room. It is incredibly frustrating, and makes for a planning a day with an appointment impossible. His staff lacks any compassion, never apologizing for delays, explaining them, or even acknowledging your hour long waits. They once called me to move my appointment up from 445pm to 345pm, and I still wasn't seen until 5pm. It was a constant problem to get paperwork taken care of after my surgery, including disability paperwork and physical therapy referrals. Unreturned phone calls, difficult staff members, and office errors were some of these problems. The office is clearly overbooked and understaffed. I highly suggest finding a different orthopedic physician if your insurance allows. If you're stuck with this office like I was, bring a book and schedule your appointments for the morning whenever possible. Scheduling with Dr. Muldoons PA was always much easier and less stressful as well. read more

You have to be ready both physically and mentally to go through a hip replacement. The office staff of Dr. Muldoon made all the arrangements, alleviating any fears I might have. The scheduler sent me the pre-op packet to fill out before the pre-op appointment so you don't have to wait in the office. The hospital and anesthesiologist were notified and called me with all the necessary information I needed. I attended a joint replacement class, had my blood test, X-Ray, and EKG completed. The office staff was courteous and welcoming. My appointments for pre and post op went on schedule. All my medications were ready and explained to me what they were for and any issues they may cause. The hospital (Sharp - Coronado) stay was great, the staff were the best in the business. Dr. Muldoon was very helpful, explaining the type of joint and procedure. (I asked for details). Dr. Muldoon's PA, Ron was a great help. I still have two more post-op appointments. I am driving after two weeks, walking a few blocks with the help of a cane and am doing great. This office is a top notch staff working very hard to make your joint replacement go a smoothly as possible. read more

He has an uncanny ability to isolate the problem and determine the solution. He saved me from unnecessary surgery that would have resulted in months of recuperation and cost me several thousand dollars. Dr. Muldoon's staff is quite efficient, friendly, and helpful. I came to Dr. Muldoon and his Physician's Assistant Ron after seeing another doctor first; he was my "second opinion" for hip replacement surgery. My first impression was "what a relief!" Dr. Muldoon and Dr. Ron MacNutt put all my fears at ease, walked me through the entire procedure, and told me exactly what to expect. My surgery went FANTASTIC, recovery was a breeze, and most importantly, when I needed them, they were ALWAYS there. I could actually text message the PA, "Dr. Ron", and he would get back to me within a couple of hours. I would highly recommend these two to take care of any orthopedic procedure you need done. They have the bedside manner, the expertise, and the experience (literally hundreds and hundreds of surgeries under their belt) to provide the care needed to alleviate any fears you may have - and provide you with the results you want... I, personally am looking forward to dancing again, and I will, because of them. They are wonderful. read more
