Because I have a little more free time of late, I reviewed our family's insurance at our last renewal, but did not think we could obtain any better or similar coverage for any substantial savings with another reputable insurer. I was surprised that significant savings were available with more protections, all from a local company which is a true community partner. After the adjuster initially denied the claim, I was eventually able to get them to send an engineer out by completing a survey outlining my concerns. They denied the claim again, this time stating there was no hail damage at all. After pushing further, I was able to get a second engineer to inspect the property. That engineer acknowledged hail damage on the fascia and gutters, but claimed the marks on the roof were not hail-related, writing: "These are the result of aggressive evaluation by others, not hail." They then invoked the appraisal clause. After consulting with a public adjuster, it became clear that pursuing the appraisal process would likely cost more than it was worth financially. In effect, the process left me with little practical choice but to walk away. I do not recommend Rural Mutual for any services.
