Found this place about 8 months ago and have been coming here ever since for my haircut. I've tried other place but they either rush you and do crappy fades, uneven edges and ugly haircuts for cheap or they are expensive, boring, designer haircut places that don't know how to cut men's hair. That is not the case at Michael's. Both Mike and Joe know how to cut hair, they are thorough, accommodating, and good company. I don't think I'll ever change barbers again, at least I hope not. PS. This is a great old school barbershop. This goes back to a time when men would sit in the barber shop and wait to get their hair cut. There are no appointments and it is not a fast experience. So if you are in a rush, this place is probably not for you. If you have time to relax, and get a good hair cut or a shave, they do an excellent job, and are not in a hurry to get the most amount of people in that they can. First time at Michael's today. I don't give a lot of five star reviews but this place deserves it. Prices are low (pretty much the same as the chains) but you get so much more here. Warm shaving cream and a straight edge razor. Old school attention to detail with modern cuts. I read the reviews where people complained about long wait times and time it takes to cut your hair. First of all they do take their time cutting your hair so if you are the guy who wants a 5-minute military buzz I don't think this is your place. It drives me nuts when the stylist at the national chains whip out the buzzer and are finished in 11 minutes. Anyone can do that. These guys take their time cutting your hair because they are professionals. They use scissors, buzzers and a razor. The chains I've been to care about turning over customers. Michael and his colleagues seemed like they genuinely wanted everyone walking out to look great. They were all kind guys. Keep in mind that it is cash only. I found out the hard way. Got to the register and didn't have cash. Michael was very cool. Told me the places down the street with ATM's and said take your time. He was very trusting and pleasant. Give it a try. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. You might be there for a bit but the wait isn't bad at all. I didn't know these guys at all. Five people came in after me and no one cut in front of me. Didn't strike me as the type of place that lets people cut in front of others. They seemed very honest. I will certainly be back. Super happy with my haircut! read more

I wish i could give Michael's salon 500 stars. That is how much I love this place. You know how people always say "back in the old days" or " I wish I had a good old barber shop with a cut and a shave"? Well this shop fits that. It is a neighborhood barber shop that has customers from all over. My family frequents this place and I have been there on plenty of occasions where my brother, father or cousin were in the chair next to me getting a cut also. Old School Italian barbers, soccer playing on the tv, great conversation and a great experience. That is always worth my money. I usually spend $20 on a good cut here and if I throw in a shave it is $40. Those are both with tip. I almost forgot to mention that I took my entire wedding party, even some of the guys just attending the wedding, and we all got shaves and cuts here. read more

Michael's is the place to go. He worked me in within 30 min and in another 20 had me all freshened up. I told him I wanted just a trim and to try and leave a little on as I'm growing it out. I even made it harder for him by wearing a hat all day. He figured out the cut and even gave me an idea of what I will ask for in the future. I have been getting my hair cut here for the last 2 or 3 years. In that time, I can't recall an instance where I left unsatisfied with how I look. I have tried other shops in the area but I keep coming back here because of the consistency. I have had my hair cut by all 3 barbers working here, and it's always been a pleasant experience. They don't force conversation on you, which is great because I'm a quiet guy, but if you do like to talk they are happy to oblige. If you are unsure of how you want your hair done, they are good at giving sensible suggestions. I get the feeling that they genuinely care about making you look good. This place is cash-only with no ATM on site, but if you happen to show up without cash they will kindly point you to the nearest bank or gas station with an ATM. Really, the only bad thing I can say about this place is that it can be a bit crowded at times. read more

Went to Michael's this week as i was in chicago for bsiness and needed to be cleaned up before my meeting. All i can say is "magnifico" A great cut and neck shave in a great old school "real" barbershop. I havent had a great italian haircut sonce my best friends dad used to give me great scissor cuts growing up and he cut hair until he was 93! Michael is a master with the scissors, mix that with the great atmosphere and you feel like you a part of the family. I brought my elderly father here for the first time to get a hair cut. There were two barbers working and each had a client in the chair. My father was next. We waited about a half hour and the barber with the chair closest to the door took him. I was under the impression this was the owner. He gave my father a basic trim of the sides and back. It took about 20 minutes. No other service was provided. I didn't notice until we were out in the car that the left side was jagged, like an inverted stair case. The right side was rounded around the ear. I wanted to take my father back inside to have it fixed but he didn't want to go back. The barber already had another man in the chair and my father was hungry and didn't want to wait. He said he wouldn't go back to that barber again. read more

I was in Rosemont on business travel and needed a haircut before my week of activities. I called salons around the hotel, and none had availability for a men's haircut. Then I found Michael's. Michael cut my hair personally and gave such attention to the detail of my cut I felt like a VIP. I loved the Italian bickering going on around me too. It added greatly to the ambience. Obviously I go there for my haircuts, which are always done to my liking, but I have always come to expect a genuine warmth and friendliness when I walk through the door and while sitting in the chair, catching up with these guys about what our families have been up to since the last haircut. I decided to try this place because I needed a fast last minute haircut. The reviews on yelp were all very high so I figured I couldn't go wrong. I walked in and was greeted by a very friendly man, with limited English, who I'm guessing was Mike? He smiled and welcomed me to have a seat. The wait for my turn was very short. I sat down and he asked how I wanted my hair cut. I told him and he quickly got to work. He seemed distracted as he was frequently looking up at the television or looking out the window. Had my hair been perfect, the distracted barber would not have been a big deal. Unfortunately, when I got home I realized my hair was not perfect. My hair was cut unevenly on top. The hair on the left side of my head was about a half inch longer than the hair on the right side. When your hair is only about two inches long that is a huge difference. My sideburns were cut unevenly and one was cut on an angle. I was able to fix this at home but I shouldn't have to fix my hair on the day it was cut by a "professional." I've also found random spots with a long hair or two that he missed. The cost, $17, is a bit on the high side in my opinion for a men's haircut. My normal place charges $15 for a cut and shampoo and they don't screw up my hair. These guys both seemed very nice so I'm a bit disappointed I won't be able to return. read more
