I'm not coming back because of your lack of customer service (see the other one star reviews). I came in last month to have a portrait framed. No escalator running up, only elevator, which was occupied. This is a problem for your handicapped customers. When I returned today the up escalator still wasn't working - so this is apparently "regular" service. YOu, Michael's, chose to be on the second floor in this mall. So YOU, Michael's need to keep your escalators running. When I came in six weeks ago, the service at your custom framing desk could NOT have been less helpful. Two men behind the counter were arguing (see other one-star post about custom framing employees being angry at each other). I stood waiting while they finished their spat and finally noticed me (invisible woman over 60 problem?). The young male who "attended me" was clearly new and didn't have a clue what was going on. He told me that frames the size I wanted could only be had custom. I told him he was wrong, that they could be ordered online - from Michael's. He didn't get it. I explained again that MICHAEL'S had it in stock online. He didn't get it. So I unnecessary ordered a "custom" frame I could have ordered online just to get the matter done. I never got a call back telling me the item was done so had to call myself. The explanation was a flood in the store, etc. No apology. So I returned to pick up today. First was the ongoing escalator problem. Second was in absentia workers. I went up and down the paper aisle looking for Japanese rice paper. Never found it. Not one person was available to help me find it. Two employees were dithering at the front desk. Went to custom framing. No one is there but a senior citizen couple. After about four minutes I asked them if there was someone working. They said they thought so but she had disappeared in the back. We waited longer. I finally hit the button for nonattendance which said "buzz here we will happily assist you". No one happily assisted us. The woman finally showed up. She couldn't help the senior citizen couple. They had nine small frames in front of them. They asked for a bag. She said she didn't have one (but didn't try to get one, either, or call the front) and left these poor people stuffing nine frames in their pockets. Unbelievable. My turn wasn't much better. She clearly doesn't want to work. At one point she muttered something and I said "were you addressing me? I can't hear you" and she had telling me to sign a receipt. She opened both orders (apparently upon instruction) without a comment so you learn you have to say "that's fine" I even had to ask if I owed Michael's anything. I didn't. I then asked her where Michael's might have rice paper. She said she "didn't know - it's out there if we carry it". Didn't offer to call the front desk. So I left (two employees at front desk were still on their phones) and checked - yes, Michael's does carry rice paper for $25.00++. I went on Amazon and ordered it for $3.99. This is why your store is failing. read more

Very poor service. Avoid the custom framing counter. They are angry with each other and that spills over to their care of your art. No customer service here at the moment. Something has changed. read more

HUGE shout-out to the folks at this store. My kid is a UVA student in isolation with Covid (we're in Massachusetts, so she cannot come home) and they were SO helpful with pulling together some watercolor supplies for delivery to her to keep her entertained during her isolation. Michaels gets 5 full stars during this crazy time! They are currently offering curbside pickup of online orders. Which is awesome. And they also went above and beyond when there was a complication with the order. The manager herself brought alternative options out to the car to let me choose from to replace the thing that was out of stock! That was unexpected and awesome customer service! Today- Black Friday - I saw first hand why these brick and mortar stores are going to go out of business. Everything in this store is more expensive than its competitors and they do not seem to understand that people have access to better quality prices and service. I figured they would have decent deals for Black Friday. But when I checked prices, they were across the board more expensive than amazon and Blick. I called this morning to ask if they price match. They said yes. I took the time to research prices and then pick out the items. Watercolor grumbacher academy watercolor 12 color set: Michaels: $84 Amazon: $69.80 list- on sale for $30 Individual colors: Michaels:$5.99 Blick: $2.99 Canson watercolor paper 18x 24 pad Michaels: $22.79 on sale Amazon: $16.67 When I got to the front of a long line, the clerk said she had to check if they honored the prices of those stores. After she spoke to her manager, she said- " oh sorry but we only honor prices for local stores like Joanne's and Target." This store will have a sad fate of dying as they ignore their direct competitors, becoming less and less relevant. read more

For weeks, months, nay, years, I was in search of reasonably priced 11x17 frames for my 11x17 posters. I went to store after store but was coldheartedly rejected by the generic granddaughters holding sunflowers and puppies. But then, oh my goodness, suddenly the frames appeared... in Joel's office. Sadly they belonged to Joel and were holding Joel's posters so I couldn't just take the money and run. Also they were kind of high up on the wall and I don't think I could reach. Joel is tall. "Where oh where did you get those frames, Joel??" I asked. "Why, Michaels, of course," he answered, adding, "Duh!" No, he didn't really say "duh." He's very polite. So off I biked to Michaels, located conveniently in the nearby Barracks Road Shopping Center. Barracks Road is a great place to go to observe our dependence on foreign oil. You will see bumper stickers such as "My other car is also here at Barracks Road, because my family believes carpooling is un-American" and "I had to sell my other car to refinance my home mortgage and now it belongs to Bank of America." I took the escalator five steps at a time (see: Elf) and emerged on a large floor filled with everything. Gift wrap, knitting supplies, fall wreaths, wooden sculptures, halloween costumes, beach pails, posters, and yes, frames. So many frames! I walked around the frame section drooling for a while. ("Cleanup in aisle Frame!") Then I spotted the perfect 11x17 from across the room. I gave it a quick glance to see if it was looking at me too. It was! I approached it carefully, so as not to startle it. The $9 price tag begged, "Love me!" When we finally touched, I held it in my arms and we danced all night long. read more

I love browsing Michaels! It's a large arts and crafts store with just about everything you need. I also love the wide selection of decorations and DIY projects. Prices are definitely not the cheapest here but it's still my go to place for yarn because of the sheer variety. Buy 2 get 1 free, yay! read more

The staff is helpful and polite, and the store is nicely lit and well-organized. I was in and out in less than ten minutes, and was pleasantly surprised to find that the two items I purchased were "buy one, get one free"! read more

I bought 2 large picture frames there several years ago (metal, attach at the corners) that just didn't work. Lip was too narrow, frames also sagged and the plexiglass cover popped loose. Took them in at 2 different times this month, saw 2 different people, who made a fix that worked, at no charge. Very nice. read more

brought an original painting in to Michaels to be framed. When I came to pick it up, there were corrugations on the paper. I pointed this out, and the staff took it back to "correct it." When I came back, the corrugations were still there. Now, however, the staff told me that the painting had been like that before I brought it in (which it had not) and that there was nothing they could do for me. Well, not quite -- they offered to let me take the painting back, permanent corrugations and all, and to "apply" the money I had already paid to another framing that I wanted done. In other words, they offered me nothing more than their standard return policy for framings. The framing staff and manager stated several times that the painting had been that way when I brought it in and that the defects could not be remedied. But I know the painting was in perfect condition when I brought it in and if the corrugations couldn't be fixed, why would they have taken it back to "correct it" in the first place?? Michaels damaged my original piece of art and were rude and insulting. Take your business somewhere else! read more

Michael's is a craft store i will occasionally pop my head into for specific things. They have a pretty good selection but can be a tad pricey. On the off chance I have had a question the emoyees almost begrudgingly respond so I try to find things or solve issues on my own. If the employees were a bit more friendly I'm sure I'd spend more time there as they have all the right things to create some cute thungs but the employees sort of ruin it for me. read more

I had my daughters' 6th birthday party at Michaels for the advertised party package 'Cooking School' for 4-6 year olds. The Michaels team member did nothing to facilitate or lead the craft activities. Only some of the supplies for the crafts where even presented (put on the table in front) and there was no 'drawstring bad for the guest of honor'. The Michael team member gave the children zero instructions on the craft activities. The chef hat was not even included. There was nothing prepared for the kids. The Team Member came in and started cutting out patterns and that is all they did the whole time. I had to find out how the craft worked and then instruct the kids, I had to ask and distribute all the scissors, makers, glue, glitter, etc. to the kids. (And the majority of the glue was out/not coming out of bottle and the kid scissors were all too dull to use). The event from my perspective was a complete disaster; do not ever hold a party here. read more
