I typically go to Hobby Lobby, and this recent experience just proved my point. I placed a mobile order at 8 this morning, called Michael's at 9 to see when my order would be available for pick up. The associate on the phone was so unnecessarily rude. I got the confirmation email that my order was ready for pick up and headed to get it, it was not there and all three associates in the store were just as rude. One even used vulgar language in front of myself, a customer, which I find to be extremely unprofessional. One of my items in my order was out of stock, even though the store just opened, and the associate acted as if it was an inconvenience for me to return its counterpart. I will not be headed back to Michael's and I am disappointed in the service I received. read more

Oh, Michaels. A couple reasons this particular chain craft store is worth a stop. 1. LOCATION. I love this particular location in Coralville, just off 965. 2. Coupons! Check online or sign up for their email distribution. You can almost ALWAYS get a deal on what you're looking for. 3. Shop online, pickup in the store for free! (They also do a great job showing you what aisle things live in the store online. So be sure you don't go in and leave empty handed.) The staff can be hit or miss. I've had super DUPER knowledgable, cheerful help and then... not so much. Just depends on the day! My basis for a three vs four star is mostly because of an online order I had this part holiday season. I ordered decor, paint and a wood craft. It said it was fulfilled and to come in to pick it up. When I got there, the wood craft wasn't there! When I inquired it was just a shrug, 'we ran out.' All fine... just COMMUNICATE please before I come in expecting my order in its entirety. Overall, a solid craft store. And really the only one of its kind in that part of Coralville. Stop in for a kid's craft, frame or anything else artsy. read more

Always a good time at Michaels! Before coming here, I thought there was normal paper and construction paper....this was proven incorrect. Upon entering, you're greeted by a plethora of items on sale, which often include a few shelves worth of picture frames. Plenty of candy, last years crafts and what appeared to be akin to "as seen on TV" dot the landscape near the registers. For some reason we're always looking for baskets when we come here and the selection is quite vast. Located in the back left portion of the store, the two aisles dedicated to baskets never leave us wanting, though we've never bought more than two in one visit. While I'm not a crafter, I'm sure this is a place that's great to get everything you need. The folks that work here are incredibly knowledgeable about all things pintrest-esk and make each visit a pleasant one. read more

The staff at this Michaels location are so friendly and very helpful! It seems like staff at these large chain craft stores can be hit-or-miss when it comes to creativity but the staff at this Coralville location are excellent. On multiple occasions, I've stopped in looking for an odd tool or needing some advise on how to complete a project and the staff here have always been eager to help me out. My only gripe is that Michaels almost always has a coupon available but that it's often hard to track them down since they're not offered in the in-store flyers, and the employees don't keep a stock of them at the checkout (I'm guessing they're advised not to), and I usually loose them in my email. read more

Great selection of craft items for all ages. Frequently offer discounts, enabling those on a tight budget to indulge. I generally use the discounts to buy art supplies. My grand-daughter loves the craft kits. The store is well-arranged, but if needed, helpful, courteous staff are always able to help you locate items. read more

Michaels is a pretty standard big box arts and crafts stores. This one is especially good for scrapbookers the majority of the store is dedicated to them, and some of their lines (like Martha Stewart) are fantastic. The knitting/crochet section is reasonable, but if you want finer weight yarns the selection is really thin. Good selection of beads/jewerly, food decorating, and also of kids crafts. They have some home decor, and lots of frames. Plus yummy candy near the registers. Beware the $1 items- impulse purchases rack up here- there is a ton offered. My biggest disappointment is they don't sell fabric beyond a very few fat quarters. I'd love more sewing supplies, and not have to drive all the way to Joanns. They accept competitors coupons, and often have online coupons available. read more

Go see Kelly in the floral department - she is a gem! I drove all over IC this morning looking for mouse ears for my silly Halloween costume... called Michael's to ask if they sold them, and she said "No, but I would love to help you make some. It will take about five minutes." I drove over, and she cheerfully did just that. That is customer service, people. AND it cost me a fraction of what I could have spent on a prepackaged costume!! Such a win. I will go back if I ever need ANYTHING craft-related! read more

Worst customer service experience I've ever had in a store. I went in to have a picture custom framed. The lady at the counter told me she couldn't help me because she was heading to lunch and there wasn't going to be anyone else until she returned. She left me standing there as she ran out the door. I asked a nearby worker if they could help with a few quick questions and I was told that they were also too busy to help me. So I left and decided to take my business to Hobby Lobby. read more
