Review from a Guy... I'm a stereotypical guy in that my goal is to spend the least amount of time possible doing my hair in the morning. I don't trust a $12 haircut nor can I justify spending $50 on a haircut. I just want a quality haircut at a reasonable price. I stumbled upon Michaels after bouncing around to a couple different barber shops in Stoneham. I've now been to Michaels 4 times and will continue to go there. He does a great job and his hours are very convenient. When I get my haircut, I don't feel like a sheep that's been shaved bare. There's no "it will look better in a week." Just a good solid haircut. Wish I could give negative stars I went in to get a full foil the girl put in maybe 10 foils and said ok sit here for a while when she took them out my hair was brassy I asked her to tone it down it looked terrible she gave me an attitude as did the owner when she was done you could not even tell I had gotten my hair done I also asked for a colored streak I let her do blue she did it on a dark brown chunk of hair do you could not even see it. My hairdresser Amy left another over priced salon in Wakefield and i couldn't be happier! She is absolutely fabulous and I love the new salon; the prices are much more reasonable and I am able to do the things I want to do to my hair without spending an arm and a leg!! She is amazing and my hair has never looked better. I get more compliments and even my husband loves my cut and color. I am a Michael's convert! I used to go to another salon in Stoneham, which I loved, but the prices were slightly higher. I found Michael's on Yelp and decided to try it. Michael did my highlights, an overlay, and a haircut a few months ago. The salon definitely has that neighborhood feel. During my time there, a few locals and Michael's friends stopped by to chat. He seemed to know everyone from little 6 year-old kids getting their haircuts to the mailman! Michael was a hoot, telling me stories about his family and Stoneham, and even though I was not yet a regular, I felt right at home. One of his daughters even stopped by to help him out and he introduced me to her. Amy, who everybody speaks so highly of, seemed to know her stuff too and was friendly even though she was not handling my hair. When I first arrived, I also asked Michael if he thought I could park on the street and he told me I should move my car into the lot in front. The lot is small, but it was nice that Michael didn't want to get my car towed! The salon is no-frills in appearance, but Michael did wonders for my hair. The cut was just as I had asked and the color was an improvement over the job that the last two stylists at other salons had done. I was a little worried that I would have to pay an arm and a leg for his magic, but when he rang me up, it was significantly less than other salons have charged me for the same services. As I was leaving the salon, an older woman was coming in for her appointment. She complimented me on my color and told me I looked great. Since then, complete strangers and colleagues have told me how wonderful my hair looks as well, so I guess that means I will now become a regular here! Michael told me he has been in business for a long time in Stoneham and I can see why. Ironically, there is a barber right next door, but the customers seemed to be filling into Michael's for the friendly and efficient service instead! read more

Tried a number of shops since relocating my office to Stoneham including Hairmates, Nicole's, Lisa's and The Men's Room. Michael's is definitely the best. Easy to get appointments quickly, ample parking, and Michael does a great job. The interior could use a paintjob, but it's clean and neat. Great prices and friendly people. I had Michael do my hair for my son's rehearsal dinner and wedding on July 8 and July 9. I came out of the Salon on Friday afternoon looking absolutely fabulous and feeling great! I received all kinds of compliments on my hair ! I went back on Saturday morning for another look for the wedding and again I came out looking and feeling wonderful! People who read these reviews are looking for a good cut at a good price. Michael delivers that. But personally, I don't want to have to deal with twisted people who inexplicably double their prices after they're done you (a $20 blowdry?), don't greet you when you come in, and think it's OK to keep you waiting 15 minutes or more while they read the paper and gossip with a client. The clientele is primarily retired, but I'm not and I don't like people wasting my time. read more

I've been coming for haircut and highlights to Michael's for over than 5 years now. I'm always happy with the cut and also with a price. I used to go to another salon in Stoneham; that was okay but a bit too expensive for me. So when I found Michael, I was very happy that I can get the same quality for a better price. As I am over 40 now, I wanted to cut my long hair but I was hesitant at first as it is such a big steep for me. But Michael took care of it, suggested which hair cut would suit me best and now I am very happy with my short hair. I can only recommend this place. read more

I am and will continue to be a loyal patron to Michael's Hair. My stylist is Amy. I have been with her for 10+ years now. I followed her from a previous salon in a different town. I must say I enjoy the laid back , comfortable, friendly atmosphere. I will say this salon is very casual, no frills... (Who needs to pay extra for frills?) not me, no thank you!) Amy's prices are very reasonable especially for the outstanding quality/job she provides. When Amy is out on maternity leave I see Michael (her boss) Amy has been out twice now. Trust me she's worth the wait!!!! And Michael is more than accommodating to her clientele. (Which is appreciated) I recommend this place (although I hate to, bc she's hard to get!!) I recently won a raffle which included a basket of hair products and a 20% off certificate, all from Michael's Hair Design. Although the salon is a solid one hour drive from my home, I decided to give the salon a try as I appreciated their support for a recent fundraiser I had attended. I am so glad I did! Michael is nothing short of amazing! I explained exactly what I wanted in cut, color and foils and he more than delivered. To top it off, he explained how to do the blow out in a way I could understand. I am happier with my hair than I've been in a long time. An hour's drive is not that far when I get results like this! I absolutely love this place!!!! I have been going here for 13 years....I left once because we moved buts was unable to find someone who colors like Michael. So now I choose to drive 40 minutes to have him do my hair....that good!!! He always greets me with a smile and makes me feel very at home....I am constantly getting compliments on my hair and spend almost half at what I have spent at multiple salons in Andover and Newbury street. It is hard to find someone who so consistent and willing to try new things. I cannot say enough except I love this place- definitely worth trying. read more

I Love Michael's Hair Design ! The atmosphere is very homey and the staff is super friendly and will keep you entertained and smiling the whole time your there.I always get my hair done by Paige she does an amazing job and I always leave there delighted and looking good. Everytime I call for an appointment I tell her I need her to make me pretty and she never fails to let me down. The salon is a little pricey but well worth the money to leave with a hair cut/color/design your pleased with.
