Just putting it out there that I'm not a very crafty person, but my wife is. She does a lot of sewing and knitting, which is probably over 95% of the reasons I've ever gone to Michaels. I think I wandered into Michaels once to find some scissor or maybe a centering ruler, but there's never much of a reason for me to go in by myself. It's not uncommon for us to make multiple trips to Michaels when my wife has a project going on. Thread. Binding. Fabric. This little doo-dad or that thingamajiggy. Michaels usually has what she needs to finish/enhance what she's working on. The selection is usually pretty good and the staff is always helpful. There are more than a few times that some sections are pretty empty. At the same time, there are boxes laying around that, I assume, is newly received merchandise that has yet to be put out. They recently installed self-checkouts at this location. I (me, Jim) is not a fan of self-checkout...and that's all I have to say about that. If it's not in stock you can order what you need via the website and (I believe) have it shipped to the store. The store is usually pretty tidy and well maintained and the staff is friendly and doesn't mind taking you to what you're looking for. read more

If someone travels a long distance and you have no restrooms to the public available then you don't deserve my business. You have lost out on at least $500 in sales if not more. A big thanks to the Michaels' employees for being courteous on the phone and answering my questions so that I was able to find the elastic I needed to make fabric medical masks. The coronavirus pandemic has caused medical masks to be in short supply. So to help, like other people who can sew, I'm making fabric masks that medical workers can wear over their disposable masks if they have to extend their use. Other craft supply stores were sold out of the elastic used for the ties on the masks or I couldn't reach anyone at the stores to check. I was able to get through to Michaels, though. And when I got to the store, their employees were able to direct me to what I need. The store also had signs up at the registers urging customers to stand 6 feet back to maintain social distance. And outside such crazy times, I like Michaels because it has a little bit of everything you'd likely need for crafts. The Michaels app also is great for coupons, including 50 percent off one regularly-priced item. Thanks, Michaels, for helping me so that I can hopefully help other people. read more

I used to love Michaels and they were my go to store.. not anymore. if you get the 10% senior discount you can't get the additional discounts when ordering on line. now you have to have a debit or credit card to pay in stir because there no longer cashiers only self checkout which I refuse to do. I placed a pick up order on line, went in to get it and told a girl what I was there for and she told me in a short time to go behind the registers and get it myself.... how do they know I could have taken someone else's order with mine if I was that type of person. but there isn't any contact people just ladies stocking shelves. Do you need a hard to find material for a crafty project? This store is the place to go. After searching for extra wide cellophane for several weeks I happened into Michael's on So. Hurstborne while in the area. I approached one of the checkers as I entered the store and rather than point me in the general direction she nicely closed her non busy cash register and walked me to section of the store with cake decorating items and cellophane. The alternate checker only had an existing customer so this did not inconvenience any other customers. I found exactly what I had been searching for. Cake boards and shining clear cellophane in a variety of sizes. I explained my project to the clerk and she helped me decide on which board to purchase. (I was making a wedding cake out of folded towels and misc kitchen items.) When I brought it to the cash register to purchase I mentioned my spur of the moment visit to the store and that I should have brought the 40% off coupon from the Sunday paper. "No problem we can offer you a better discount on this purchase if you sign up for our email ads." I did and received 50% off the most expensive item being purchased. Wow, I'm a fan of the vast variety of craft materials and the pleasant personalities of the employees. I'll be back! read more

This may not be my favorite Michaels in Louisville, but they have the SWEETEST EMPLOYEE WHO HAD BEEN HELPING ME FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS! Her name is Lisa and she always has a fabulous hairstyle and color that keeps me inspired. She knows that when I walk in, I will have a million questions... So she stays with me to answer all of them. I've even watched her helping others that are asking simple and in front of your face questions.... And she still answers with a polite loving attitude. This girl is on fire and makes coming to this Michaels not so bad!!! And it's not that this Michaels has bad service or stinks... It just doesn't have the sticker options and rows of party entertainment I always need... that is available at the Wesport Rd location! read more

Super disappointed in this store right now. I signed up a few weeks ago for a Beginners Crochet class. They confirmed the class via email including a "what to buy before class" list. I get there 10 minutes early and no one is in the classroom. I wait until six minutes after class is supposed to start and no one is in the classroom. I had to find an associate in the store to ask for a manager and she was kind enough to ask what I needed ". I told her and then she quickly informed me that if not enough people sign up for the class, they cancel it. Too bad nobody called or emailed or texted to cancel with me I asked for an immediate refund and she was kind enough to do that. I leave so much money here. Unlike other craft stores the people who work here know how to do the things when you ask them for help. Unlike other craft stories it's difficult to find someone to help you. They are busy bees. It's not that they're like the TSA people standing about doing nothing, they're generally busy. However, it takes FOREVER to check out. I like that they have a full range of stuff without all the garbage other craft and hobby stores seem to offer. They have less things but they have less garbage. They've maximized their space. They also offer classes which is fantastic, I'd love to take one but they happen when I am working myself so I have to pursue other avenues. For people with happier lives this would be a great thing to look into. PRO TIP: There is always, always a coupon. read more

I have always been a huge fan of Michaels and today I got some of the BEST deals. I'm a school teacher so I buy many things with my own money and today I hit the jackpot. I found some plant trays I can use for my grow station on clearance for .32 each. I got twenty. These will make my first lab easier forte students to get their plants only. I also got two packs of scrap book paper (70%off) for 4.80 each. I did get an extra 20% for showing my teacher ID (special going on Friday) even though it technically isn't running yet. I waited 40 minutes to try and get a few pieces custom framed and no one came to help me. I rang the bell and even spoke to several employees who said they would send someone to help. I picked out the matting and frame so I just needed them to finalize. I framed several pieces July 2019 with them and was disappointed then as well. They didn't have the creative skill to frame and they also messed up several pieces and I had to bring back to be fixed. Will not be back to this location for custom framing read more

Walked in for a single item and had no problem finding it. And while the store seemed a tad cluttered, the staff there was amazingly friendly. I hadn't yet signed up with their mobile app, but the gal at the counter made sure to get me all the coupons and discounts she could. Don't get me wrong they have a good selection of craft tool and prisma colors with a few sketching supplies. If you are looking for a crafts store with a wide varied selection and a friendly staff this place will suit you well. You will be able to find just about anything you will need to make your projects come alive. If you are serious about your art. This is not the place for you they have the basics, but they can not hold a candle to a real art supply store or even there on line counter parts. read more

We visited this store today today to get something framed. I was surprised to find that even with a 60% plus 15% off sale the small-ish frame I needed was still over $100 with the lowest quality options. The clerk in the framing department went out of her way to help me find a pre-fabricated frame plus the matting fees in the ballpark of my $50 budget. I am so thankful for her help and impressed that it will be ready in 3 days! read more

I took six photos which I was framing for a client to Michael's, using gallery frames I had purchased from another company and prints of my work processed by a professional photo printer. Michael's worked effectively with me to get the project done and meet the client's schedule to have the framed prints hung. I will be using them in the future.
