To be honest, I'm a bit tired of the mass-produced items that most swag providers offer: put a logo on a bottle opener or slap the company branding on a mass-produced T-shirt. And so a few years ago I was doing some online research on small businesses or nonprofits that produce possibly-customizable gifts...ideally businesses with a mission that is in line with our company's mission. I came across MudGirls Studios and added them to a spreadsheet...and then I actually forget about this list for a while. Then this year I was looking for a special gift for a certain population in our company and I thought back to said list. I reached out to the email on the MudGirls website and soon after I got a response from Dorrie. (Dorrie later told me that she thought I was spamming her and that I wasn't real.) Over the next few weeks and months, Dorrie and I developed actually two gifts: a custom-branded mug and a custom-branded ramen bowl. I'm very excited to send these to my colleagues next year for their very special work anniversary! Thank you, Dorrie, for all that you do and for responding to my initial email. I love your organization's mission and I love the work that you do. Here's their mission: "MudGirls Studios is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization that empowers disadvantaged women through training and employment. MudGirls Studios helps women transition onto a pathway towards self-sufficiency and out of poverty. We use clay as our vehicle to change lives through their own creations and sales of functional art and aesthetic utilitarian objects. You are not only painting your board, but also sanding and distressing the wood to your style and choosing your stain. Some of the crafts feature items besides wood too, like my mason jar craft. We heavily used stencils, so an artsy touch is not required, and the owners were great about helping us clean up some small mistakes too. In fact, the owners were so friendly and helpful, they really made the whole event fun and we learned a lot along the way. They are BYO, so you can also bring along a drink! You don't have to get too messy, but you do work with paint so I'd recommend clothes you don't mind getting dirty.

What a GREAT shop…read more.. The Golden Feather is (what I consider) a boutique shop. There is plenty to see, and is the PERFECT place to shop for gifts. They even have gift cards! What I love the most about the Golden Feather is that everything is unique - it all comes from local artists. They have jewelry, pottery, scarves, artwork, tons of cute things for babies, and lots more... When you walk in, you'll see lots of tables and shelves, with merchandise all over the place! On the walls, on the floors... It's a great at-home feeling, not the sterile shopping experience you get at a department store. There is a lot to see here, so take your time! The prices range - some items are higher than others, but again, keep in mind that the items are handmade... And you are paying for quality. They always have clearance shelves also, I just got something today marked as $60 for 50% off! My mother swears by this place - whenever she has to go to a baby shower/house warming, she comes here for all of her gifts. They have great gift baskets, and they will gift wrap for free. They put your merchandise in a beautiful bag with tissue paper and a peacock feather... Very nice touch. There is a parking lot outside with plenty of parking, and is right off of Rt. 30, so it is super easy to get to. The staff have always been cordial and will help you out with any questions you have.
