I needed buttons for a project I had just finished. I checked online and found the ones I wanted. The item was shown as being in stock at the Salem store. I was very happy but not for long. I traveled to the Salem store (20-minute drive) and went to the button aisle. I wish I had taken a picture of it. The entire wall of little hooks were 90% empty. I found the location of where the buttons I wanted were supposed to be, but there were none. I checked inventory online again and it still showed items in stock. I walked around the store for about 10 minutes trying to find someone to help me. So, then I had the bright idea of ordering online for pick up. I did that and waited to see if someone would come to pick up the buttons. Finally, someone who looked like they were a picker walked down the button aisle, and looked in the area I had been looking. I told her what had happened. She couldn't find my order online, but eventually did. I asked her if they were buttons out back that hadn't been stocked yet. She said she'd have to check, but she couldn't do it right now because she had 12 online orders to complete first before she got to mine. I was standing right in front of her! if I didn't place the online order, I would still need those buttons. I walked out and canceled the order when I got to my car. I found the buttons I wanted on Amazon. What a complete waste of time and oxygen. And by the way, the store was a complete mess. There were stacks of unopened boxes blocking several of the aisles and the place just looked dirty. I was, however, impressed by the quantities and types of yarn that were available. I hope it stays that way because there's no place to buy yarn near me except Michael's. read more

Self check is the only option for cards. One cashier for cash and no one to troubleshoot self checkout issues. Three of us had self checkout issues. Computers won't accept Michaels coupons. After waiting several minutes, unable to proceed without help, I left my purchase at the counter and walked out. Horrible experience. read more

I went in for a price quote on a print that I wanted matted and framed. They advertised 60% off all framing orders, which drew me in. I got good friendly service. The woman in the framing area was fun and knew her trade. Sad but even at 60% off the prices did not wow me. I eventually did go with Frame King down the road, @ 20% off, with coupon for the same price as Micheal's and I believe got a nice better job done all together. read more

Michael's always seems a step up above AC Moore. Not sure why but their prices reflect that attitude as well. Their faux flower selection is a bit less pitiful than AC Moore though you pay for it dearly. Candles aren't bad but make sure to wait for sales. Michael's has also eliminated their "make your own" frame section with the exception of the black metal frame. Their custom framing prices are absurd, sometimes even after their 60 (or more) percent off. They do have nice selections of frames if you have something that is a normal size. Never ever ever pay full price for a frame at this store! You can also get coupons in the Sunday flyers or by signing up online. They're good deals but only off regular price items. That works for the stuff that never goes on sale (but of course they have exceptions). After pricing out a custom frame during several different promotions, they finally came up with a price that was within the realm of possibility. I wanted the frame only, no mat, no glass as I am perfectly capable of framing my own print. The frame was 30x36" and I made sure to ask if they would reinforce the corners. I was assured they would. Since it had been pre-paid (a Michael's requirement) I asked my mom to pick it up. When she handed it over and I looked at the corners, I was surprised to find no reinforcements. I called and was assured that it would not fail and if it did, he would refund the cost. I know the turnaround in stores like that so asked if it were possible for him to just add the reinforcement. He said he would, I brought it in and it was done in 5 minutes as promised. read more

I love Michael's Crafts They always have what I need, and they pretty much cover every genre of arts and crafts: stamps, scrap booking, sculpture, painting, drawing, jewelry making, flower arrangement, home decor, kids projects, knitting, etc. I never have to worry that they're not going to have what I'm looking for. Photo polymers have a shelf life, no one in there knows what they're talking about. I talked to one woman who said they don't order anything until everything zeroes out. Then the manager Frank called me with less than articulate speech, told me the exact opposite. Lack of better judgment here is every day. They sell everything for screenprinting except for the scoop that puts the emulsion on? Explain that, called speedball to find out if they sold or manufactured a emulsion scoop at 10 inches they said no just to use a squeegee, which if anyone had a clue that does not work and you waste emotion, speedball makes tenant screens but they don't make 10inch emulsion scoops, run and go to Hobby lobby, or order from Dickblick.com read more
