It's a real community spot. The yarn selection ranges from standard go-tos like Berroco and Plymouth, to lovely stuff from Malabrigo and Juniper Moon Farm, to indie hand-dyes. The trend seems to be toward fashion colors and styles. I'm not exactly a fashionista myself, and I still find it easy to leave with creative choices. Especially because everyone there has been so willing to help me discover something I can't wait to knit or crochet up. Right now it's a super yummy pima cotton dk yarn I'm using for a shawl, and next up I have a cozy soft 100% recycled yarn for a cardigan. (And while prices at some LYSs can get scary sometimes, they seem to have really reasonable pricing.) PS: Parking in Union can be tough, but if the adjacent smaller lots are full, there's also a big municipal lot behind the Dollar Tree. (You can walk through for a shortcut! Buy yourself a soda!)

They helped me choose a project and went out of their way to order two colors for me. When i had family issues that caused a delay in picking it up, they held the bag for me for a few months and were kind and welcoming when i finally was able to retrieve it. Definitely a revisit for me when i'm in the area!!

My trip to Knit Kit was interesting, to say the least. I did a POI search in my GPS to find it. The…read moresearch revealed several web listings on different websites all showing the same address. I still ended up driving by it twice, though. It's in a complex that looks like it was almost certainly a low end motel at some point, and several of the units have satellite dishes (suggesting that they are private residences). Since I had trouble finding the place, I took the picture that appears here on Yelp to help others find the business. As I was unbuckling my four month old son from his carseat, an older woman comes up to me and asks in a hostile tone why I'm taking pictures of Knit Kit. I explain that it was for Yelp, a business review website. The lady proceeds to say to me: "No. She's not on any websites. Knit Kit? No. You don't take picturesof her. She'll kill you." Now, I'm a 32 year-old, roughly 210 pound male. So I'm not going to pretend that I felt threatened by this small woman. I still think it's poor form to threaten a person's life while that person is tending to his infant, however. My wife and I still tried to go in, despite this initial adversarial welcome. When I tried turning the door handle, it was locked. What kind of a business isn't open at 2:30 PM on a Wednesday? In summary, a seedy location with inconvenient hours guarded by an ill-tempered woman (who may or may not be affiliated with the business, but threatens your life on behalf of the business owner). I don't think my wife or I will be returning. That stinks, too. This place is way closer to our home than the place in Westfield where my wife usually goes. ...and to the sentry of Knit Kit, please note that there were two reviews on here before today. So Knit Kit apparently is on the web. Sorry to disappoint you.

She did not kindly ask but used a rude accusatory tone. The place wasn't even open anyway. It was hard to find, because its in what looks to be a run down motel. We will take our business to a different and more inviting and friendly shop instead. Ill be sure to share this with my knitting groups and friends as well.
