As kids we were given $1, and we could fill our bags with whatever goodies we desired! Every time I come back I remember how wide eyed and full of excitement all of use were to get a bag full of candy - oh the excitement, it was palpable! If only $1 would go so far today! They still have the huge penny candy counter and the same brown bags they have been using for ever. It truly means its summer once those bags are filled and wrappers are ferociously being removed on the sidewalk.

This is a great, small town hobby shop, located a little off the main drag, so it's kind of hard to find. I was surprised to see a shop like this in Petoskey, but pleased. I found this shop just before they closed one night while walking around downtown on vacation. I thought what luck, I love coins and there's a coin shop that I didn't even know existed! It seemed like a sign of the divine variety and so I walked in, hoping to find what I'd been looking for in vein- an elusive piece of Canadian silver that no one ever has and yet every coin collector desires. Well, the owner was very nice, had a wide breadth of information regarding coins and knew exactly what it was that I was looking for. Unfortunately, he did not have it. Yeah, that was a letdown, but he gave me some valuable tips and we talked coins and stamps for a bit and we told me he would be on the lookout for the piece I wanted if it came across his store eventually, even though I'm from out of town. I took down his information and everything before he closed for the evening. He was a great guy to talk to, very personable and intelligent. His store was organized well. He had a great variety of things to look at, just not the specific coin that I wanted to fill out a coin book of all Canadian silver. He had a lot of nice, rare items and the prices were pretty good. If you're a real coin collector, you're in in for the thrill of the hunt and love of the hobby, not trying to get the best price or low ball an owner. It's not a money-making hobby, it's a time consuming and money-sucking hobby and I know that. I do it because it's enjoyable. While his shop primarily was concerned with antique coins and paper money, he also had some old stamps, vintage jewelry and other antiques, plus coin and stamp accessories for hobbyists.

I like the founding owner (retired community college instructor, although he is quick to make intrusive remarks) and the store is always interesting, except that their current store policy on masking up is against my policy of "minding your own business buddy." I am vaccinated and don't need little brother telling me what to do as far as my personal life goes. Dick (the founding owner) is knowledgeable, but certainly not the end all of celestial information, (and most certainly not in the field of biochemistry , physics, nor medicine) and Amazon had the binoculars that I was looking for, delivered to my home. Enerdynes marxist store policy and my freedom collided this time, and they lost this sale to Amazon. While dining on the patio at VI Grill down the street I was doing impromptu surveys of a few passing visitors, and was told that no one was requiring rebreathers (face masks) anywhere in Suttons Bay except this establishment. In addition to everything you need for our birds friends, they also offer amazing candles, artisan food items and gifts! Definitely shop here 1st, as I know you'd rather support a small store and not be supporting the "man"! Dan also taught me that squirrels don't like hot peppers but birds don't mind them, so we got the spicy suet to try. Wow, you learn something new everyday! Thank you for a great experience!
