The Fun Factory is the best trading card retailer in the area and has an entire wall of "gamer"…read moretype board games (think Catan, Ticket to Ride, not Monopoly or Scrabble). There's a small but adequate selection of D&D products and dice as well. I would call ahead if you're looking for something specific. Trading cards are where this shop really shines. Lee, the new owner of about three years, makes big efforts to make sure his inventory is as robust as possible. This is primarily a Magic: the Gathering spot, but The Fun Factory also carries Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokémon, Star Wars and Flesh and Blood sealed product. Singles are overwhelmingly Magic, but there is inventory of most of these other products, as well. For Magic players, there are gameplay events four or more days a week, with Commander gameplay on Tuesdays (casual), Thursdays (Commander Night), as well as FNM and Saturday events. Lee is currently (beginning of 2026) overhauling events to expand options for players. Prices are fair. On par or better than one typically finds at a local game store for both buying and selling. Sealed product is around market rates. Some other, older reviews have indicated that The Fun Factory has higher prices than online retailers, but that's only true to a degree. It isn't really reasonable to expect a small business to match bottom dollar online retailers. Secondly, there's something to be said for being able to hold a card in your hand and inspect it prior to buying, and not having to pay shipping or worrying about your purchase being "lost" in the mail like an online seller. Some of the customers have the sort of hygiene problems that one might expect at a tabletop store, so it can be a little funky during busy events. The store is clean and regular upkeep is done. This is a well-run business, especially among small hobby stores, where it is close to the ceiling of expectations. Reviewer is a regular, longtime customer of the business and perceives that The Fun Factory continues to change for the better, and is particularly improved over the past few years.

Nice selection of coins and paper money with great service from an owner who really seems to know…read morehis business. This is a great, small town hobby shop, located a little off the main drag, so it's kind of hard to find. I was surprised to see a shop like this in Petoskey, but pleased. I found this shop just before they closed one night while walking around downtown on vacation. I thought what luck, I love coins and there's a coin shop that I didn't even know existed! It seemed like a sign of the divine variety and so I walked in, hoping to find what I'd been looking for in vein- an elusive piece of Canadian silver that no one ever has and yet every coin collector desires. Well, the owner was very nice, had a wide breadth of information regarding coins and knew exactly what it was that I was looking for. Unfortunately, he did not have it. Yeah, that was a letdown, but he gave me some valuable tips and we talked coins and stamps for a bit and we told me he would be on the lookout for the piece I wanted if it came across his store eventually, even though I'm from out of town. I took down his information and everything before he closed for the evening. He was a great guy to talk to, very personable and intelligent. His store was organized well. He had a great variety of things to look at, just not the specific coin that I wanted to fill out a coin book of all Canadian silver. He had a lot of nice, rare items and the prices were pretty good. If you're a real coin collector, you're in in for the thrill of the hunt and love of the hobby, not trying to get the best price or low ball an owner. It's not a money-making hobby, it's a time consuming and money-sucking hobby and I know that. I do it because it's enjoyable. While his shop primarily was concerned with antique coins and paper money, he also had some old stamps, vintage jewelry and other antiques, plus coin and stamp accessories for hobbyists.

Very rude. Treated my mother with such horrific disrespect. Would not recommend. Very disappointed…read more Was a long drive and he was so rude.
