Called weeks ago to order the wristlet and boutonniere - Was very specific. Asked for purple not lavender or pink. Went to pick up today and it is lavender. Plus flowers are glued together vs wired and taped. They put a corsage pin in the boutonniere. Now they did tell me they didn't want me to pay for something I wasn't happy with....not sure what they expected me to do....the prom is tonight. Given the multiple week prior ordering I did expect them to at least call me if they couldn't do it. I'm now sitting at another florist who is making what I wanted....and they mentioned the ownership has changed and they actually were calling around looking for white spray roses....which, to me, sounds like an odd thing to run out of in prom season. Oh, I paid $65 for something that isn't what I ordered, new florist is $42 so if you do use them you are probably paying too much. Add: Given I was able to get what I wanted from a different florist i called them to see if I could get a refund if I returned them. They said yes, when I got there 50 questions about who the other florist was, what were they giving me, statements like spray roses don't come in purple (then why didn't you say so), agreed they were pink but they put a purple ribbon in there....totally missed the boat I was looking for purple flowers...they could have suggested something other than spray roses....oh, the other place told me they could get purple. Bottom line, sad as it makes me this will be the last order I make with them. Previous owner was wonderful, never disappointed. read more

I used Michaleen's for my wedding on Oct. 15, 2011, and had a wonderful experience from beginning to end. I met with an associate about 6 months before the wedding date, and she showed me pictures of bouquets they had done in the past to get an idea of the size and texture of the bouquet (i.e. a compact, clutch bouquet, or something more pouffy), and we went over the color scheme and the types of flowers that would be appropriate for the color and texture that I wanted. At the end of the visit we had outlined all the bouquets, bouttonieres, centerpieces, and arbor decoration, and I received an invoice by email shortly thereafter. We paid a deposit after our first meeting to secure the date, and they were fine with us paying them the day of the wedding when they delivered the flowers. A few days before the wedding, we realized that we needed to completely change our vision: instead of getting married under an arbor, for which we'd ordered massive floral arrangements to decorate it, we needed to move everything inside. Michaleen's explained that simply moving the outdoor arrangements inside wasn't a viable option, but they gave it some thought and came up with something equally nice. I was upstairs getting ready when they arrived; when I came downstairs, I saw they had put the flower arrangements exactly where I wanted them, and the boutonnieres and bouquets were in a box. I think this is how it is usually done, but this arrangement might not work for everyone. I did have to distribute the boutonnieres to the guys, since they hadn't a clue what to do. But once everyone had their respective boutonniere, bouquet, or corsage, they were spot-on - exactly the color tones I was envisioning. For the centerpieces, we wanted to do "random" floral arrangements at each table, so that no table would be exactly alike. We described the the color scheme to the associate we worked with (I forget her name) and she suggested some flowers and plants that would work with our theme. So, I really didn't know quite what to expect on the big day, but they did a great job. They used shallow glass bowls to hold the flowers (we wanted them to be low so people could see each other), and indeed, each table was different, but kept to the color scheme. We got lots of compliments on the centerpieces and the bouquets. All in all, I'd recommend Michaleen's for their service and attention to detail, as well as their ability to adapt to changing weather conditions (common around here!). read more

My children ordered a floral arrangement from Michaleen's for Mother's Day. It arrived Saturday afternoon, beautiful and fragrant. Amongst the other flowers were fresh lilacs that made the house smell amazing....for 3 days. Tuesday, the lilacs shriveled and died. I would think that an arrangement left to the florists' discretion (as my son requested) would fully last beyond just a few days. They promised they would make it up and deliver it to my Mother within the hour. Well my Mother felt like a Queen with the flowers arrived. Quite the florist. After my girlfriend transformed to Cornell in N.Y. from CA I searched for the best place to have flowers delivered and after some search I came across Michaleens. My first order blew me away and looked better than I could have imagined and it was a good price. My second order didn't go as planned however, I decided to upgrade the arrangement hoping it would be even more amazing this time, but unfortunately I was disappointed when I found out they had used completely different flowers because they were out of stock of the ones needed for the arrangement. I was pretty upset I simply talked to them about expressing my concern and they took care of me, providing a full refund. Being a gardening enthusiast, it's no surprise that choosing the flowers and florist for my wedding would require careful consideration. Michaleen's was definitely the right choice! First of all, Michaleen is wonderful to work with. She has a tremendous wealth of knowledge and experience and was able to answer every question I asked and make great suggestions. I had specific flowers that I wanted to use and she was always accommodating, making sure that they were complemented by the other flowers in the arrangements. Through our conversations, she was able to get a sense of my vision for the wedding and executed that vision with truly striking results. While I grew up in the area, I had to plan the wedding from some distance and Michaleen was always quick to respond whenever I had a question or idea. She made the whole process so easy for me! Additionally, she has a great relationship with both the patisserie that worked on our cake and the venue where our ceremony and reception were held, making coordination a breeze. These guys know how to make celebrations special. I used them to send some congratulatory custom gifts to my sister who goes to Cornell. They surpassed my expectations in every possible manner - they were super prompt on the mail - incorporated the custom elements I suggested over phone, everything looked better than online pictures (that doesn't happen often with flowers and cake, does it?).. The delivery happened within 3 hours of the order, the note for my sister was handwritten, the quality of cake, soft toy and tulips were all excellent! Michaleens provided the bouquets and arbor flowers for my wedding this past summer. I was ultimately pleased with the flowers but the entire planning process was painful and unpleasant. The first meeting my fiance and I had was over a year before our wedding date. Admittedly, at that time there were so many details not finalized that it made some flower decisions difficult. So in the intervening months I looked through countless magazines and on the internet for ideas. I emailed photos of color schemes and flower combinations I liked and would get a sort of vague response saying they could do something like the picture but not quite. I never could get a straight answer from them about what exactly they could and couldnt do with regards to specific photos. Additionally, I had initially wanted them to do the centerpieces as well, but as I sent photos to give them an idea of what I wanted they kept changing the description to whatever was easiest for them to put together. When I asked for price estimates I was again met with a vague response...well it depends on this and that. I responded clarifying the specifics and still didnt get an accurate estimate. When the wedding was about 4 months away I emailed them again asking when I should come back to finalize the flowers. The response was that there was no need for another meeting and that they had what they needed. I found that mind boggling that they somehow knew what flowers I was having at my wedding when I didnt have any idea! I insisted on a second meeting and this time it was with Michaleen herself rather than one of her associates. Michaleen was completely unhelpful saying things like, "well we could have this flower for your wedding, but maybe not. Maybe it would be this one. Its mother nature you know, We'll just have to wait and see whats available." I understand that weather and seasons can dictate what flowers are available at a given time, but seeing as she is the flower professional here, I assumed that she would have a clue and could say with some confidence what I could expect. She was also unwilling to do ANY research into some of the flowers and colors I wanted leaving me to do what I felt was her job. I asked her to show me flowers currently in the case in the store to help me see color and texture patterns. She did it begrudgingly and didnt provide much insight. At that same meeting she showed me a specific flower that earlier we had decided was a possibility for my bridesmaids bouquets. I told her that seeing it now, I didnt like the color at all and did the flower come in a different shade? She said yes and that I should come back 2 weeks before the wedding to finalize the flower choices. Leaving this all to the very very last minute made me extremely uneasy (and frankly pissed off). People would ask me what bouquet I was having and I honestly couldnt tell them even though in my mind I had a clear image of what I wanted. When I went back 2 weeks before the date I met with one of Michaleen's associates who was miraculously warm and helpful. She showed me the flowers Michaleen had set aside for me and there was the same flower I had seen a few months prior. In the same color I said I didnt like! When I pointed out that I had hoped that would be a richer color the woman said that maybe if I had let them know a month or so before they could have done something about it! I had done just that but Michaleen again didnt want to do any legwork to make this bouquet work for me. In the end the associate and I redid almost the entire flower order that one day and the arrangements were very nice. Not what I had dreamed of but they were beautiful. My final complaint about dealing with Michaleens is that I was told before they would come deliver and set up flowers, they would need payment in full. This is pretty standard and not an issue. I tried to pay at the 2 week meeting but was told they would email me an invoice and I should then call in payment. So I waited, and waited and never got an invoice. I called them a few days before the wedding and left a message, never got a call back. I emailed them and never got a reply. I called them again with no answer. Finally, the morning of the wedding I called and someone answered. She still didnt have an invoice ready for me though she said they were still preparing the flowers. I managed to pay that morning in between getting my make-up and hair done. Then, to top it all off, when they delivered the flowers they came and literally just dropped them off! No one came to tell me they were there, to help the guys with their boutonnieres, to ask if we were happy with the finished product. They just put them on a table in the entrance to the inn for us to magically find. They did set up the arbor swags but there were only 2 so that should not have taken so long that they couldnt have checked in with someone in the bridal party - namely me! I WOULD NOT recommend working with Michaleens for your wedding flowers. read more
