I have gone to Michel Dental for over 10 years. I recently was referred out to an oral surgeon for a tooth extraction and then implant. The tooth extraction was so traumatic that I now have a negative reaction just thinking about the experience. Going back today for the implant with a different dentist reminded me of why I love Michel Dental. Whenever I arrive, they greet me warmly. They usually know my name and let me know right away if they are running behind or if it will be quick. When I am called to go back, usually with Doug, he is warm and professional. He lets me know what the plan is for the day, he talks with me, lets me know if Dr. Michel is caught up in something that may take longer, he lets me know what he is doing when he's behind me so that I'm not just sitting there awkwardly like a fixture in the room. When I've had to see another person for something other than a cleaning, they do the same. If I have to be anesthetized, the assistant makes sure I'm doing okay. They say reassuring things and when it's a tough procedure they might touch my arm lightly to check in with me. Dr. Michel always checks in with me when he comes in. Anytime he is checking on my teeth he walks me through what he is doing. He makes sure I have a signal to let him know if something gets too intense or I need to take a break. The office staff is always inviting, welcoming and efficient. I don't know if I would have realized how wonderful Dr. Michel's office is if I hadn't had such a negative experience at the other place. My mother's experience with Michel Dental in Topeka and the Topeka Oral Surgeons next door has been deeply disappointing. These two offices appear to work hand-in-hand, but unfortunately, neither delivered proper care or professionalism. After being charged a significant amount of money for dentures, my mother received a set that do not fit at all--the upper plate is oversized and unnatural, while the lower plate is uneven and painful to wear. Even after so-called "adjustments," the dentures remain unusable. She can't swallow or eat comfortably, and her gums are constantly sore. The environment itself raised concerns about sanitation and care standards. Both offices felt outdated and careless, with staff and dentists who seemed disengaged and indifferent to patient wellbeing. For the price paid, the quality and service were unacceptable. To make matters worse, they kept my mother's original partials and never returned them, despite repeated requests. Given how unprofessional the entire process was, I can't help but suspect those partials may be reused or resold--which is both unethical and unhygienic. It's incredibly disrespectful to treat patients this way, especially seniors who trust these professionals with their care. I strongly advise anyone considering these offices to seek another provider--preferably one that values patient comfort, hygiene, and accountability. read more

I have had a few different dentists over the years. Today was my first visit to Michel Dental. I was impressed from start to finish. Prior to my appointment I was able to complete patient files online at my convenience. I received reminders by text of my appointment and what to expect. Check-in was quick and easy. All public spaces were well appointed, clean, comfortable, and welcoming. Jason, my hygienist, was friendly, calming, thorough, explained what he was doing as he did it, and fully informed me of his evaluation of my dental health. The equipment used was the most up to date out there and of the highest quality. The business office, where we all dread to enter, was the opposite of that expectation. Staff were super friendly, explaining all options, informing of different payment options and really had my dental health at the heart of my treatment plan. Dr Michel presented me with what he recommended yet assured me that he would work with whatever my decision was. It was evident he had my best interest at heart and was not trying to pay for his trip to the South Pacific or a new Mercedes (which is how I felt at the last two dentists I visited). His demeanor was calming, kind, and unrushed. He answered my questions completely and to my satisfaction. I am super impressed and am joining the ranks of the loyal patient base. read more

I originally went to another local dentistry that did a few fillings--unfortunately they were poor quality and actually started to come out as I flossed the SAME DAY. It took me years to finally try another dentist. When I was pregnant I realized I had an abscessed wisdom tooth. Dr.Michel was amazing. His bedside was great and I knew I was in good hands. Fast forward a few years later I decided to finally have my faulty restorations corrected and then met the new doctor. I was in severe pain after due to my wisdom teeth. The new doctor took the time out of his day to call me to make sure I was able to find an oral surgeon quickly to finally remove my wisdom teeth. I think I've finally found a place that allows my anxiety about dentistry & my oral health to be a priority. I have enjoyed all of my experiences. I have been absolutely terrified of going back to the dentist the last 10 years. Yuck - I know. I finally called Michel Dental and the receptionist was so kind. I actually looked forward to my appointment the following week. I showed up to my appointment and was greeted with a smile. The hygienist that did my cleaning was more than comforting. No pain and answered all of my questions. The dentist came in shortly after the cleaning started and she provided very detailed information and answered all of my questions as well. Everyone in their Silver Lake office is super nice and I will continue to see them for all of my dental needs. Our family has been going to Dr. Michel for 24 years. They are wonderful from the moment you check in until you leave. I recently began using periodontal trays for as recommended by Dr. Michel for my periodontal disease. After only using them for 3 months the pockets in my gums went from 5 & 6 to 3 & 4's. As long as my progress continues I will be able to extend the time between cleanings, which is every 3 months. Dr. Michel also treats my TMJ. Have had root canal done and a bridge. I had my 6 months check up& I always get good tips to keep my gums & teeth healthy. Today was a new hygentist & she took great care of me, and offer a few tips on cleaning my bridge & flossing. I started using a water pic flosser but didn't realize to still really use my flosser for flow up in the evenings. She also assisted with a great choice fluoride wash that wasn't 99% destroying bacteria like seen on tik tock & wanted something that wouldn't wash away the good bacteria & help gums. I've been a patient at Michel Dental office for many years. Recently I've started seeing Dr. Biggs in Silver Lake. Both dentists are great, their staff is professional, but treat their patients like people. They show compassion and truly care for patient total well being. I wouldn't go anywhere else, and I could easily go to Wamego or St. Marys or Manhattan. I choose to travel more than 60 miles because when you find a dentist and staff you like, you stay with them. I am not fond of sitting in a dentist chair...(I guess no one really is); however, this office makes you feel welcome and takes the time to explain the details you don't understand and works with you. The office staff are all very professional and friendly. The waiting room is clean and comfortable. The professional who comes to escort me to the dental chair is also very friendly. She takes good care cleaning my teeth. Dr. Michel says Hi and looks over my teeth, which apparently are OK. I pay the lady at the office area and head home. Got in right away as a new patient. Office staff extremely friendly and courteous. The office itself was very clean and well put together.
