I've been writing this review in my head for so long, but I need to finally share how amazing Michelle is. Time and again, I heard about Michelle from GGMG (local mothers' group). People said she was an absolute magician for everything from chronic pain to insomnia to fertility issues. I've had chronic back pain for well over a decade and have tried lots of things. Surgery wouldn't fix the disk issues I've got, but acupuncture with Michelle has made a huge and measurable change for me. The pain I have is markedly decreased already and has become more of a petty annoyance rather than an overarching theme in my day. Michelle is generous and kind, a great listener, so intuitive, and just an incredible practitioner of Eastern medicine. She looks you straight in the eye and really hears you. She does cupping as well as needles to strengthen my back and never makes me feel rushed in the slightest. I always leave feeling uplifted and buoyed by my sessions with her. Michelle is the kind of person you wish you could be friends with outside of her office--genuine, warm, and interested in and protective of other people. Michelle truly is a healer. I was in a serious bike accident a few years back and as a result, found myself in constant pain. I'd tried physical therapy. I'd tried chiropractic work. I'd tried massage and while they all helped, the pain persisted. I'd never done acupuncture or cupping before, but a friend recommended it after seeing the depressed state I was in. I literally dreaded getting up every day because I knew I was going to spend the next 12-18 hrs thinking about how the pain in my back was never going away. Enter Michelle. Her calm and welcoming spirit made me feel at ease as soon as we said hello. She explained her philosophy, how acupuncture worked and helped me set up a treatment plan. After just one session, my back felt slightly better for the first time since the accident. So, I continued seeing her and slowly but surely, the pain disappeared. As the months went on, we also added cupping to my sessions (for no extra charge), which I highly recommend. Just be warned, the cup marks stay on your back for a number of days, so don't go cupping before prom ;) Anyway, I'm now a little over a year and a half removed from my accident and am proud to say I'm pain free! The only downside is that I no longer get to see Michelle. Seriously, seeing her will be a highlight of your week. If it wasn't for Michelle and the fact she accepts insurance I'd be using voice software to type at work and wouldn't be on the computer now. I have a combination of carpal tunnel and tendonitis in both wrists and when I lived in Thousand Oaks there was no acupuncturists for many trafficky miles (hence the voice software). When I moved here I was going to the ACTCM Ear Clinic, which was in the building I worked in but when I got a new job, I had to find another acupuncturist, as the Clinic is only open limited hours M and W. According to my new health insurance's website, two acupuncturists took my insurance, Michelle being one. The other guy only worked 9-5, M-F but Michelle worked evenings (and had excellent Yelps) so that was the deciding factor. Which all worked out in my favor. Michelle is so personable, so incredibly nice and really great at figuring out what your body needs. I'm always curious as to the reasons behind certain needle locations and she patiently answers all my questions. Also, she doesn't push herbs on you but if it seems like something will really help she'll recommend it. She uses two different rooms and each is decorated very Zen and she always makes sure there's relaxing music on for the 20 minutes or so the needles are in. I really look forward to my bi-monthly tune-ups with her. She's cut back on hours recently, so getting an appointment with her is more challenging but it's totally worth the effort and wait. Additionally, the support staff at Conscious Chiropractic and Acupuncture is amazing! I'm always greeted with a smile, and never feel rushed or like I'm bothering them. You get a reminder call the day before your appointment by one of the very nice receptionists, which is super helpful and a nice touch. read more

I was at a party and a girlfriend and I started discussing our acupuncturists. We were determined that each of us had the best practitioner, and that the other simply MUST make an appointment and compare...it actually even got a little heated (in the most positive way, of course)...when finally, it came to light that we were both speaking on behalf of the lovely Michelle. She is a natural healer - and she's not all "wah-way-wee-wah" - she has a medical background from a western university, and experience in China, a great balance between the East and West. She is kind, soft-spoken, and creates an extremely calm environment to de-stress in. I never feel rushed and I always leave feeling rejuvenated. Two years ago, I was a mess of allergies. Year round, I depended on prescription meds and a nasal inhaler to keep them kind of in check, and once a year, I would have a shot. None of this was fun, and I still felt like crap most of the time. Two years ago, I started to see Michelle. A few months after I started seeing her for regular treatments (I think when I started I went every two weeks), I was completely off allergy medicine. I was in a bad accident involving a San Francisco cable car and a US mail truck. Being crunched between two vehicles, twisted around and smashed into a window by both local and federal government is a tiring, painful experience, let me tell you. Bring on the needles! I went through a period of insomnia and stress a while back and looking to explore alternative medicine rather than sleeping pills I decided to try acupuncture. Now let me preface by saying I have an innate fear of needles but my insomnia was so frustrating that I decided to suck it up and get over it. And over it I am. Michelle is awesome. I can not say enough about how much I enjoy my appointments with her. I immediately felt completely at ease and was able to open up about many personal issues. I tried an acupuncturist in SF referred by a friend. I decided to give Michelle a shot because she was in-network and at the chiro office I already went to. Michelle turned out to be amazing and even better than my friend's acupuncturist. I don't know if it's because she used Japanese needles but it never hurt when she did it. Michelle also has a great bedside manner. I would say I've never been disappointed in any of my sessions and my muscle spasms finally calmed down after trying a variety of other stuff. The only downside is she's hard to book because she's so good. But she doesn't give you any less attention when she is able to see you (unlike my experience the dentist and his Yelp popularity). I think I've been seeing Michelle on and off for 2-3 years now. I think I got lucky that I found Michelle and Laurie in my 2nd try. Don't even bother calling to make an appointment unless you have Anthem blue Cross insurance. Michelle won't take you as a patient unless you have this insurance. I've never been discriminated based on my insurance. Even when I offered to pay out of pocket at the insurance rate and fill out the paperwork myself, because I know my insurance will cover the service as out-of-network, she wouldn't give me an appointment. Not only do I believe her treatments helped my body tremendously, but she was a priceless resource during this time. I had serious neck pain from whiplash sustained during a horseback riding accident, and after many months of the pain (and limited range of neck motion) persisting and really messing with my quality of life, I decided to try acupuncture as a "can't hurt" option, since my insurance covered it. After one treatment with Michelle, literally on my walk back to the office from the appointment, I noticed a skywriter and without thinking I looked up--almost without pain!!! Great person to bad it feels like her receptionist it looking at it at a 1 time fee visit. Michelle and accupuncture have changed my life. I have a severe phobia of needles and it took me a long time to even call and make an appointment but boy am I glad I did! I've been going to see Michelle for about 4 months now- initially to work on some short term anxiety and pain I was experiencing from frequent travel and to work long term on my allergies. Our first session was fantastic- we talked for a long time about my history and why I was coming to accupuncture, what I was expecting to get out of it, etc. And then the needles began- we started slow with only a few so as not to increase my massive phobia and I have to say it was the most relaxing hour of my life, even more so than any massage I have ever gotten.
