Michelle Vesely does hair and she does a damn fine job of it, too. I came to Michelle after my once favourite stylist did a number on my bangs. The only other stylist in San Francisco who'd ever done a good job with my hair had apparently moved out of country since then but thankfully she recommended Michelle with enough accolades that I figured that if she was even half that good, I'd be set. And here's the thing, when I showed up she had really bad morning sickness and was super nauseated and still did a better job (and was even friendlier to this semi-introvert) than most people who touch my hair when they're feeling tip-top. Michelle is nice, sweet, and refreshingly sincere. She did a very good job cutting my hair. She did a nice job styling it and was nice enough to ask about product before putting anything in. (She explained the stuff she uses is pretty natural but I was hanging out with a finicky friend after so I opted "no".) Nobody stopped me but my friend noticed and said it was cute. I'm always weary though because when my hair is styled right after a cut it usually always looks good. The truth of the matter comes for me the next day because my hair has a mind of it's own and refuses to fall the in similar ways day in and day out. It's curly one day and straight the next and poofy another day. But here's the thing: The day after I got it cut (ie-today) I didn't even brush my hair and everyone (familiar faces and strangers alike) was like, "OMG, I love your hair. That's so cute." A few different girls stopped to compliment me on my hair and flirt with me. I normally get some attention but as a fat androgynous feminine trans person there's usually limits to the amount of attention I get from other queer femmes. Not today. I think Michelle may deserve the credit for that one as I was walking around in sweats with my nose in a book today. It was kind of weird on one instance since one person who complimented me was an acquaintance who in 3 years has never so much as one made eye contact and smiled directly at me before.... and there they were like, "Oh, I love your hair." *huge sincere toothy smile and just kept looking at me* But yeah, Michelle has my former-punk-but-still-look-the-part hair needs covered and will be my go-to gal for cuts. I will try to remember to brush my hair the next day, but hey, apparently her skills have me covered in the cuteness department even if I don't. read more

Michelle is the only person I trust to do my color. She is extremely imaginative in that you can describe what you want for your hair, and she will take that idea and add her own style if you ask her to use her creativity to cut color and style your hair. She is the color queen. She's so pleasant and easy to talk to, and if you're lucky, her sweet dog Bender will take a shine to you and sit in your lap while you wait for your color to process. I seriously lucked out finding Michelle! As a girl who does almost nothing special with her hair, I decided to get it styled for a formal Gadsby-themed wedding last weekend. I spent an hour looking up salons nearby, calling and asking if this type of style was in their repertoire, and trying to find an appointment. When I called On Mars Salon (also great as a salon), and heard the receptionist ask Michelle in the background if she was available, and describe what for, I heard an 'oooooohhh' of excitement in the background and knew I found the perfect fit. A treat out of my ordinary, I felt so trusting of Michelle to work magic after flipping through an (extraordinary!) book of historic styles, and together made a plan for my long hair. During the style, two of the other stylists came to watch and even get a lesson on the technique to create 20s style pin curls... I also learned alot about methods to create the look (and others) that have inspired me to play with style for the first time in years. I also learned that 'back in the day' women would get their hair done and sleep with it and it would last a week! This information came in handy.... I was AMAZED at what Michelle did to my hair! I was transformed beyond my expectations. I got ready for the wedding, of course arriving 15 minutes late to the ballroom at the Regency in SF, and, no joke, my boyfriend realized we were a day early! I panicked, I LOVED my hairdo! I never got this dolled up! I never got it styled, and certainly not so complicated! I texted Michelle, and over the night she guided me to find the right clips, hair spray, and silk scarf to pin it, sleep with it, and then... she accommodated me in her day to come to my house the next day (lugging a heavy backpack of her tools up a steeeeeep hill on Buena Vista Hill) to fix it up again. I was beyond grateful, and it may have actually looked even better the second day! I received so many compliments at the wedding, and even was not recognized by a few friends at first. After the first night sleeping with it, I preserved the style for two more days, and LOVED running around town with it. Michelle totally made up for the mistaken wedding date! I will most certainly return, though it may be infrequent for my normally low-maintenance life:) She has inspired me in general for what is possible in my hair style on my own as well! Went to Michelle to get my head straightened out. Not only was this the best haircut I've ever had but it came with a glass of wine! I'm a bit of a pain in the butt too because I never have a good answer to the question, "how would you like your hair cut." Michelle is by far the best colourist i've ever been to! I've tried with several different stylists before settling with her, and she's been my stylist for almost 2 years now! Not only is she a colour genius, she is genuinely concerned for the integrity of your hair. She is able to bring my hair from jet black to blond in one sitting without completely frying my hair. She is very easy to talk to and very easy to work with. I always get so many compliments on my hair thanks to Michelle!!!!! She is THE BEST!!!! read more

First off, the building this salon is in is adorable. You walk through the front doors and go up an elevator and it opens to a very cool salon with a small waiting room, with a view! The lovely Michelle is the one whom I had an appointment with. We did a cut and color. I love it! It came out the exact copper I asked for (I brought a picture) and the cut was a cute long layered rocker look! My favorite! Thanks a lot Michelle, you were a blast.
