I love this guy, he's compassionate and caring. He talks to me like a regular person and has never made me feel like he was in a hurry. After surgery I had some issues, partly due to my having fibro and he was so patient with me. The office staff is very friendly. The only thing I could complain about is Dr Houseman's PA at Ascension Macomb. He's quite abrupt and cold. He would walk-in all high and mighty, no smile, just stand there and say "Ready to go home". Never bothering to ask how I was feeling, if everything was ok, just informing me that if I didn't go home after 3 days I'd have to go into a nursing home! (My dad had just died the week before in a nursing home) It would of been nice to know these things BEFORE surgery.

We have known Dr. Soo for quite a few years now and would not consider anyone else for spinal surgery. He is truly a genius and is a very caring doctor. I had a very rare condition in the spinal cord in which Dr. Soo performed an operation. He took the time to research and care for my case personally, above and beyond the call of duty that no other physician would take on. His sense of humor lightens the mood of some potentially bad news. But I assure you, if it can be fixed, he will fix it!!! Both offices are very busy, however, if you are able to book an appointment on a Thursday, I find that the Novi location to be a bit less crowded. You should book your appointment at least a month in advance, or two if you can. To avoid a long wait, you can ask for the first appointment of the day. Just a couple suggestions that are hopefully helpful.

Being naive about back surgeries we thought my husband was getting the best care he could. After the 2nd surgery failed miserably a friend suggested that we see Dr. Nicholas Shroeder at OSOC. Within minutes of meeting with us he explained clearly why the first two surgeries had failed. By this point my husband is in constant pain and can no longer stand up straight. Dr. Shroeder explained what he felt the best course of action was going to be for Tom's situation. Dr. Shroeder had the new pieces needed for Tom's back made specifically for him in France. The previous neurosurgeon had just grabbed any rods and screws within reach. That was what kept Tom from standing upright. The picture on the right shows the neurosurgeon placed straight rods in his back. Losing the natural curve is what kept him from ever standing straight and in excruciating pain. The picture on the left is what was needed to give Tom the ability to walk and have a good quality of life again. This shows the difference between an excellent surgeon and one who should never be allowed to practice medicine again. The day of the surgery was a very long one. Dr Shroeder performed the 14 hour surgery to correct the neurosurgeon's mess. He actually had to rebuild Tom's back vertebrae by vertebrae. There were a few appointments before the surgery and a few during the next year. It is a 3 hour drive each way for appointments/surgery. Both my husband and I feel that the drive back and forth saved his life. I do not say that lightly. It's been 6 years since his surgery at OSOC and we are so grateful to Dr. Shroeder and his wonderful staff, especially Liz. Their knowledge, patience, compassion and kindness is so appreciated.

I have been dealing with a pinched nerve for a few months now and, after an MRI helped to pinpoint the problem, we are considering back surgery. I arrived early for my appointment and had a short wait but was taken in early to the examination room. When Dr. Graziano came in we reviewed the MRI results and discussed my current condition of mobility and pain levels and then he described the options. Since I have very little pain and good mobility he suggested we wait on any potential surgery. Dr. Graziano comes across as very knowledgeable and competent in his area of spinal problems. He also has a friendly approach to patients and exhibits concern as well. I would have no problem having him perform my surgery in the future if it becomes necessary.

The only people I ever saw were Traci, and the receptionist. That alone should have told me something. Within minutes of my first appointment, before even reviewing the 15+ years of medical records I brought, Traci dismissed my long established panic disorder and insisted I was bipolar. She prescribed Cariprazine, a medication primarily used for schizophrenia and severe bipolar disorder, and told me to taper off the medication that had been working extremely well for years. I followed her instructions, and the side effects were so severe I nearly went to the ER. When I called, she didn't even speak to me directly, the receptionist relayed a message telling me to stop taking it. The Zoom follow‑up was even worse. She again cut the medication that was working and prescribed Desvenlafaxine, which is used for major depressive disorder. Once again, I followed her instructions, and once again I had major adverse effects, including my heart rate spiking to 190 bpm. My final visit lasted barely five minutes. She immediately told me she no longer wanted to treat me because I "asked too many questions" and "didn't want to be helped." Instead of calling me, she had me come in just to bill my insurance. She also pushed for a release of all my medical records, despite clearly having no interest in reviewing the ones I had already provided. Their stance on supplements was equally contradictory, claiming they're all placebos, except vitamin D, except vitamin C, except... whatever exception they felt like making. She even suggested I lose 5-10 pounds despite me being nowhere near overweight, all while she sat across from me drinking giant energy drinks. Afterward, my primary doctor was shocked, both by the medications she prescribed and by her attempt to taper me off the treatment that had been working and the speedy timeline. He confirmed what I already knew: these medications are well‑known to worsen anxiety and panic disorders. In my honest opinion, this practice is not focused on healing. The lack of oversight, the empty offices, the poor reviews across every location, platform and the careless prescribing all point to a business model built on billing, not care. As a former RN with 15 years of experience, I thought I could spot bad actors. I was wrong, and the two months I spent under their care were filled with unnecessary fear and instability. Please take these reviews seriously. I wish I had!

My husband went to Dr. Khalil two years ago for a spinal fusion L1S4. After years of suffering pain…read moreand then nerve pain, he was fixed...100% fixed. Recovery took 6-8 weeks as expected but has been pain free since. During his recovery, I started experiencing hip pain. I learned is had a deteriorated SI (sacroiliac) joint. I treated it with steroid injections every 90 days for a year and a half which helped but never quite got me out of pain. We went back to Dr. Khalil and he was able to schedule me for a bilateral SI fusion where they bolt the two joint together from each side to avoid the unnecessary movement in the joint. Although fairly noninvasive, I was back to work in two weeks and now my pain is also 100% gone!!! Dr. Khalil is literally the best surgeon!!! We were both scared making surgery decisions and our only regret now is that we didn't do it sooner. His PA's are also amazing and helped with all our questions and help explain things in normal terms. If you are in pain, we would highly recommend him or at least consider him for a second opinion. He is not one to rush you into surgery which is hard to find these days but definitely the surgeon you want when the time comes!
