Many leagues use the fields and there are signs saying unauthorized people aren't allow on them. So I guess it's not a place for pick up games. The hiking trails aren't anything exciting, just little paths going around the fields and along the Pawtuxet River. Lots of bugs and poison ivy this time of year and the paths are pretty overgrown. A pleasant little park for the youth leagues but not a whole lot to offer to the casual visitor. The park is a nice place for the local community and leagues to play organized sports but not much else

Took advantage of the sunny weather last Thursday and headed out for a short hike at Esek Hopkins…read morePark in Scituate, RI. I was aiming for a longer walk, but with the temps suddenly hitting 90°, my body tapped out early. Ended up doing about 1.2 miles of unique trail and re-looped a couple of sections to stretch it out. The trail was dry but narrow in spots, winding through what felt like a fern city - fields of them everywhere. I also noticed lots of tiny flowering plants scattered along the way, which made the scenery even better. Definitely bring bug spray though, the dense growth makes it prime mosquito territory. Trailhead starts next to a baseball field, with a large dedicated parking area and a playground nearby. I couldn't resist wrapping things up with a quick swing on the swingset. The park borders Providence Water Reservoir land and some private property, so keep an eye out for signage. I passed a few classic New England stone walls and even a small quarry area with leftover stones still showing old tool marks. A few trail signs are posted throughout the loop, but it's mostly easy to follow. A short, scenic trail, great for a quick nature fix, especially if you're local.

Colts State Park is an amazing waterfront park in Bristol, Rhode Island. It's a little drive…read moresoutheast of Providence or north of Newport, but worth a visit if you like wildlife and views of the New England waterfront. There is one paid parking area closest to the beach, volleyball nets, and covered picnic tables, but there's plenty of free parking lots throughout the rest of the park. The waterfront areas include a fishing pier and plenty of benches. The lots are thoughtfully laid out along the walking/biking paths, with plenty of scattered picnic tables. Wildlife is abundant here as we saw loads of geese and quite a few seagulls. Some of the areas of the park are under maintenance and the benches are a bit rusted out, but these minor things didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of Colt State Park, so look forward to returning here.

I felt my cortisol drop significantly just after a few steps on the trail. At one point, the Providence noise pollution almost disappeared & all I could hear was birds & bugs & wind. Unfortunately it's a seriously confusing smorgasbord of trails. I had to pull up AllTrails a few times, which is borderline embarrassing, considering how small of a park this is. I'm not sure I really followed any of the proper trails, just kinda zigzagged around. I would've felt more at ease if the trails were marked more clearly. Still highly recommend as a great green space. Enjoy!

Thr view from the top is amazing and it has seating and a fire pit. Great place for early morning sunrise or late evening sunset yoga and meditation ‍.
