This Micro Center location offers a diverse range of products for the tech savvy. It also features a Knowledge Bar where computer technicians will do their best to help a customer before actually having the laptop being checked in for service. The one thing I keep noticing after multiple visits here is that during peak hours the Knowledge Bar has difficulty keeping up with the customer volume. It is no fault of any employee because of the nature of computer problems. Issues cannot be guaranteed to beresolved within a specific amount of time. Having said that, I do notice that the employees keep a light hearted attitude and show flashes of their character when dealing with customers. This can be endearing when a customer is not in a rush, but for those in a rush, it becomes irritating. Overall, I trust this place for computer needs, but the wait makes it a miss for me. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I walked in looking for a new laptop and I was ignored by employees not doing anything. I had to basically force an employee to look my way and when I asked him a question he said yea it will work for your needs then walked away and began doing nothing again. I then waited an hour next to the laptop I wanted looking for someone to help me and no one looked my way. I was all about buying the laptop but the sales skills here made me think otherwise. After paying for an expensive extended warranty plan on my laptop, I spent over well over $2500 on a computer and television at Microcenter. 3 weeks ago, after the computer's motherboard had a hardware malfunction, I took it in to take advantage of the in house warranty on parts. They "ran diagnostics" again, and decided it would be cheaper to replace the IO board, than do the right thing and actually fix the problem. That took over a week to get in, and SUPRISE, didn't fix the problem. They ordered the motherboard, which took another week+ to get in. Today I went to pick up my computer, which they assured me was fixed, and as soon as I took it home to open it, I found I wasn't even able to log in because now the keyboard isn't working, which they blamed on the motherboard. *** If they would have ever even bothered to check if the computer was actually fixed, they would have seen that you couldn't log in, which means that the half-assed repair job they claim to attempted wasn't even checked after the work was supposedly done! I asked to speak with the store manager, Matt, who told monotonously and rudely told me that since the parts didn't exceed the value of the computer (by $43), he was unwilling to replace the computer with an exact model, even if I was to pay the difference, but rather claimed it was "fraud" and that I would have to wait another 5-10 days for the new part to come in before trying to solve the problem for the 3rd time. If you ever ask to deal with store manager Matt, don't expect him to care about your problem or providing customer service no matter how much money you've spent there. This was hands down one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had, has lost me a month of work, and I doubt I'll ever be working with, purchasing from, or recommending Microcenter to anyone ever again. read more

Bought 5 laptops (4 Asus Refurbs, 1 HP Probook new). Sales rep. Chris knew a ton, and found the best computers for me, including Microsoft 365 and Antivirus at bulk prices. Bought everything for $2100. Knowing that refurbs have issues, I wanted to open all the boxes, which I almost did, but my kids started crying to leave. Drove 30 minutes home to find one of the Asus refurbs had a cracked keyboard! Took it back and Micros immediately had one waiting for me (I called ahead) and they replaced. Later that night, found out another refurb had a dead battery! Asus wouldn't replace it (called them over the phone). Took it back and Micros' superb manager found a solution and replaced the battery in 30 minutes, saving me the 4-5 hours it would have taken to reconfigure and re-image a new computer. Lesson learned is that MICROS STAFF ROCKS, but make sure you test your refurb purchases fully before leaving the store. Also, got 5 wireless mice for 6 bucks each and laptop covers for 10 bucks each. Can't beat the prices here. Wish this store would replace every Best Buy out there. read more

After months of research on what kind of new PC I needed, I found the best option was to have one built for my needs. I'm not great with computers, so I didn't really know what I was doing! I had asked someone to build me one online, but I was worried to spend that much money through a website I wasn't familiar with. So I brought in the specifications I needed to MicroCenter and Ken helped me find the best options. MicroCenter told me it would take a week or so to build, but they ended up building it that night! I was so impressed. Everyone was so helpful. The overall price was comparable to those online, and I ended up getting exactly what I needed. And I love that if I have any issues, I can always go back to MicroCenter. Thanks guys! read more

A lot of the people who work here need a massive attitude adjustment. My gf came with me one of the 4 times I'd been there this past week, and even she noticed that the staff seemed annoyed or bothered by my asking questions about laptops that I wanted to buy. One particular day, a group of 3 staff members were all huddled in a group talking to each other - seemingly too caught up in their convo to help customers- . When I finally asked one of the 3 staff members my question, he acted like I'd just interrupted his conversation - he seemed annoyed. He wouldn't even turn around to face me - he/his body language was partially still in his conversation with his friends, and half-assedly looking over his shoulder at me. When he finally did peel himself away from his peer group to "help" me, his responses to my questions were short, and abrupt. He had a sense of "know it all" arrogance which was super off-putting. He didn't really take the time to elaborate on anything, and just seemed to overall have poor customer service skills. I visited there a lot this week, and each time, the "morale" of the Micro Center employees as a whole seemed.. defeated. I'm not kidding when I say that each of the 4 times I visited this past week, I ended up feeling angry by what appeared to be a general lack of care by the employees for what they signed up to do at that job: help people not only buy stuff, but hep them understand what they're buying. I know sales jobs can be tough, but you can't expect to make more sales if you act like a d*** to your potential customers. Learn basic people or customer service skills - it will take you a long way! Side note: Mike Anderson - you did a great job bud. Thank you for being kind and helpful towards me the one time I saw you. You went above and beyond. Shame I didn't see you the other 3 times I came in. Your colleagues could stand to learn a thing or two from you. Anyways, I felt so angered on one of my last visits that I decided that I would NOT be buying from them, and would rather pay the higher prices at bestbuy or just shop online. I did end up getting something from them ultimately, but returned it.... Even returning it I was met by a non-friendly face at the customer service desk; a young black woman. I'm not joking she straight up mean mugged me as I approached the counter- I tried to be nice and say "hi how are you?" and she just ignored that. It's a shame that the employees here are so seemingly ungrateful to be employed - so much that they can't look past their own BS and just be nice to the people who are helping them keep their jobs in the first place. Unfortunately, I will never be coming here again for any reason. Hell, I'd rather just pay the higher prices at best buy rather than shop here. After going back and complaining (I wanted to know how much the fee was), they "accidentally" returned it and said there was nothing they could do. A manager came over and said there was nothing they could do about the return but found out that everything was in the box. Then, I remembered Micro Center, only a few minutes away, and headed over there. Rachel and Matthew at the repairs desk helped me (and other customers) right away. They were nice, smart, quick, and sure to give me all of my options before asking me to make a decision. Micro Center even called me that night to give me an idea of how they'd be fixing my computer and how long it would take. I have been a loyal customer to Microcenter Towson since they first opened their store in my local shopping center back in 2013 I think. I loved going to this store a lot for computer parts to build or upgrade my computer, laptops and just generally hanging out. These guys have the best CPU prices I've ever seen compared to Amazon or NewEgg. The employees are very professional and knew a few friends that worked there. They highly recommend this store for your computer needs. I cannot comment about the Knowledge bar since it's almost always crowded so I don't really bother with it. You could say I know the ins and outs of my store and if I need help there is always an employee in that section. This store made some changes recently but it enhanced my shopping experience overall. The only bad experience I had was, I wanted to buy a CPU and no one was in the BYOPC section. I walked around for 15 minutes and no one wanted to help me or seemed too busy to care. Now it's 2020 and I noticed there is someone stationed there I think permanently. My bad experience will not dock a star. This store deserves 5 stars all the way. I've recently explored their Rockville location and it's awesome as well. I highly recommend Microcenter if you want the best deals on computer parts and anything computer related as well. They also price match. I can walk to Microcenter Towson if I wanted too which is very convenient if I don't want to use my car. read more

Summary: I really want to like Micro Center before as I have enjoyed being a customer in the past, but I was lied to by an employee, and I spent a full day dealing with a repair for one laptop. I bought a laptop at Micro Center. It froze up and said to reinstall the OS, so I did, and the same thing happened again (I went through this process a couple times). I brought it in (still under store warranty), and the employee said to go home and reinstall the OS again to see what happens. He continued by saying that if it still didn't work, he'd give me store credit, and I could get a new laptop since the hard drive in the previous one was hard mounted. Despite having already tried reinstalling the OS multiple times, I went home and tried again and obviously, the same thing happened, so I brought the laptop back. However, after originally saying that he would give store credit, he now said that he still wouldn't give me store credit since that's not something they do for Micro Center warranties (allegedly). He then said that I could leave it with them and they'd try repairing it. The earliest I'll get it back is in 10 days. If they can't repair it (as he had originally said), then they'll give me a new one. Now I have no laptop for at least 10 days. I went to the store twice already and will have to go again in 10 days. I wanted to like Micro Center, but this experience is making it really hard. read more

I consider myself a pretty reasonable consumer. But my recent purchase from this Micro Center was a complete and unmitigated disaster -- with their customer service line being of absolutely no help. I bought a $2,000 PowerSpec PC with 16GB RAM, i7-4770K Intel processor, NVIDIA GeForce 980 computer with a 2TB HDD and a SDD to boot off of. The computer came with a copy of Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and a disc with drivers to help any average consumer deal with all of the pesky drivers with a single installer. Neato. But when I took the computer out of the box and plugged it up, I quickly ran into a metric shitload of issues. First and foremost, the Windows partition was installed onto the 2TB HDD and not the SDD which completely defeats the purpose of the SDD to begin with. On top of this, every time I tried to install ANY program -- for example, the first one being Google Chrome, the computer would blue screen, memory dump and send me back to BIOS. I tried reinstalling Windows 7 about 3-4 times with this issue happening CONSISTENTLY EACH INSTALLATION. So I did some research and found out that I had to hard flash the BIOS to properly configure and write via the SATA drivers. This already would've pushed away an average consumer -- how lucky is this Micro Center is that I work in the tech industry. Now, let's move past that -- I install Windows 7 onto the SDD (Like an competent person, quite unlike whatever technician put this PC together) and format the 2TB HDD for an NTFS storage space so that I can store low demand/low resource games onto it (because face it, who the hell would buy a computer with this kind of hardware if their intention was not to game on it?) and everything was A-OK for about 2 weeks, give or take. Next thing I know, I get a notification today, 2.5 weeks after the original purchase that the copy of Windows installed on this computer is not legitimate. CERTAINLY THIS MUST BE A MISTAKE, CONSIDERING I PAID 2 GRAND FOR THIS COMPUTER. I check the registry and find no fragments, I run chkdsk and sfc and everything came up A-OK. I used the bullshit antivirus software that the salesman pushed on me to scan for any potential file-corrupting viruses and it found nothing. So I check the key that is on the computer with Microsoft and I'm informed that the copy is indeed, not legitimate. So I figure, hey, maybe Micro Center might've just forgotten to put a key in and it all must be some kind of honest mistake. However, the 3 associates I spoke to on the phone (deeply regretting not taking their names down) told me that this is simply not possible -- that it must be user-error. OKAY THEN. I look everywhere in the packaging of the computer for some semblance of a CD-Key or Windows License and I find that the CD's for Windows 7 and Windows 8 are burned discs with cheap engraving on the top of it. Seems legit. So after spending hours of my precious time getting absolutely nowhere with the associates that provide "customer service" to the masses for Micro Center, I decided to pay for a new license, losing me another $120 for something that's part of the actual product. So yeah. One star. Absolute garbage. I don't really quite plan on coming here again and I figure if any moderately self-aware consumer checks reviews for a place prior to spending their money there, this is one to take into consideration. Caveat emptor. P.S. I understand your sales associates work on commission and everything, but when I say that I don't want your coverage plan four fucking times, it means I don't want it and stop asking. We are so lucky to finally have a real computer store in this town. What do I love about Micro Center? First, their prices are reasonable. I don't know how this is possible for a brick-and-mortar store, but they're competitive with Newegg and Amazon for lots of things. Second, their staff are helpful; I witnessed a salesperson walking around offering to help customers find things & welcoming them to the store. Third, they have an incredible selection: 27" Korean WQHD monitors, mouse pads (yes, some of us still use them) from neoprene to modern polymers, CPUs, cases, T-Shirts for the discerning (sassy) sysadmin, and even some Arduino stuff. Fourth, their hours are long. Given how much I love this place, what could I complain about? Only this: given their incredible prices on cables and specialized tools, I don't know if the local place down the road, Baynesville Electronics, will be able to survive. Baynesville, a much smaller store, has an incredible selection of switches, adapters, transistors, veroboard, and top-quality electronics tools, chemicals, paraphernalia, and sundries. I hope this metropolitan area has customers enough to keep both these stores alive. read more

I was greeted warmly and helped in my selection of a new computer. The gentlemen helping me was eager to find out what I wanted and needed in a computer and gave me suggestions that were right on point. We got it narrowed down to two computers and he actually told me that the lower priced computer would be completely adequate for my needs. I appreciated the honesty and him not trying to "upsell" me something that I didn't really need. I had already decided (in my head) to go with the pricier computer so I wouldn't need to upgrade as soon in the future. The computer is working out great and I did some price comparisons online. For my model, the next closest price was $100 more! I also purchased anti-virus and anti-malware software that is running unobtrusively on my computer as promised. I also got some USB 3.0 drives for a great price! The place isn't much to look at on the inside, but they have great prices and are very friendly. ONLY trust the people who work at the tech fix desk. DO NOT trust the micro center staff in other parts of the store. The other day I asked someone working for something to clean my computer. I showed him my computer and he recommended rubbing alcohol and a q-tip since I have to clean in between the keys. However that killed a few keys on my computer and killed my whole computer. And when I brought mine it to the tech help part of the store. The worker said the guy in the store last week who told you to use rubbing alcohol was wrong. read more

But also 3 stars because I took a laptop there today (Sunday) that suddenly wouldn't start (I had bought it there 3 years ago) and the older guy at the Knowledge Bar didn't even look at it or try to turn it on himself... basically said I'd have to pay the fees for data backup and reimaging before they'd look at it... that's $250 on a computer I paid $350 for originally... I'm no stranger to the Windows OS and can regularly do a lot of diagnostic work myself, but if the computer won't turn on at all, I can't do it. If your computer you buy there fails within 2 years of purchase, though, they WILL reimage it free of charge (at least that's what the guy told me), so I assume that's good, and again, they have GREAT deals are one of the only places that still offer a "Build-Your-Own-PC" option and have a great selection of parts. read more

However, once victorious, I was helped extensively by Charles who answered all of my questions about choosing a product (a NAS) that he was never even certain I would ultimately buy from his store. Had to come back and update this review because my experience was truly unbelievable. I agree with all of the positive reviews here about buying laptops from them, good prices, a lot of inventory, etc. etc. However, if you do end up buying a laptop from here do not, I repeat do not, use the service department. Bought a very expensive laptop from this location and due to a manufactures error, diagnosed by their service team, I took it in to get serviced. I dropped the laptop off working with a simple faint line in the middle, which I could have lived with but after spending a lot of money on a computer I wanted it fixed. They left me a voicemail after "repairing screen" that the screen was not the issue. Long story short I picked it up while waiting for them to get a new video cord, took it back to my office and it did not work at all. Screen was black. After spending almost 2 days trying to get my only working laptop up and running it is still not resolved and my only options are to get a brand new laptop or allow them to run diagnostic tests for a few hours and take 3-5 business days to get the part. read more
