Do not stay here, I repeat do NOT stay here! Price seems decent for the area but there are reasons for it. Upon first entering my room I realized that there was no fridge, microwave, or coffee maker and it was quite cool in the room. I went downstairs to speak to the woman behind the counter...and she told me that the "regular rooms" do not come with a fridge or microwave, you have to book the "suite" for such luxuries...my fault I should have looked at the booking more closely I suppose. I proceeded to ask about the heat and she looked at me strangely and said "Oh yeah...we don't put the heat on yet, it's not cold enough to" mind you we had mid 40's for daytime highs and mid 30's for night time lows. But she gave me....blankets! The fun didn't end there. Upon coming back from a hike I went to our bathroom and noticed the floor was all wet. I then looked up and saw water pouring out of the fan vent. I called downstairs and told her. She was surprised and said she would send someone to look at it. They came and turns out the guy on the 3rd floor overflowed his toilet. They cleaned it up with towels and when I asked if they would disinfect our bathroom as well the manager said it was unnecessary because it was "clean toilet water from the tank" Nightmare fuel Not to mention the animal piss stained carpet and black mold in the bathroom. So basically- spend the extra money and stay somewhere nice. read more

My wife, baby and I checked into the Microtel last week. After being repeatedly promised a crib for our seven-month-old, we were provided with a play pen with brown stains, which snugly fit at the end of the bed. We were worried about the flat-screen television precariously leaning at an angle over the armoire throughout our stay. We were booked for six days, but on the third night, our stay was cut short, on account of two bed bugs crawling across the mattress. Therefore, we checked out and stayed with my parents for the rest of the trip. The gentleman at the front desk who brought us the play pen was decent and sympathetic; he directed us to work with Expedia to get our refund. Though we didn't get reimbursed for the first three nights, we did get $201 back. read more

This hotel should be avoided at all costs. Our room (118) thickly smells of urine, the carpet is heavily stained, dirty, and the pad at the window sitting area looks like it could've been used by dogs in a shelter. I can't tell you how disgusted I feel that I made my family sleep in a room that has been soiled either on the carpet or the beds by animals or human beings. Serious health violations. The rooms do. it have air conditioning and because it's light the entire time, as we are visiting in late June, the hot, damp, urine smell to wake up to was...use your favorite words of grotesque situations...and I'll agree with them. Many accommodations at this price point have developed pretty good breakfast options over the last ten to fifteen years. This one, toast and cereal. That is it. Microtel - you might want to reconsider your affiliation with this property. Avoid at all costs. Consider sleeping in your car in the parking lot adjacent. Not the worst place I've stayed at, but it certainly made the top 10. Let's start with the covered entry which was taped off. People were standing under it, smoking. I asked why the tape & was told one of the supports was damaged and it could fall. That might be nice to share with others! *Had to change rooms; bathroom door wouldn't close. *No king beds. *Housekeeping promised a full- room cleaning on the 3rd day. Didn't happen. *Had to ask, daily, for coffee packs. *Limited parking & egress ( that pesky deathtrap entrance covering...) *Roku for TV, but you have to use your own passwords to watch anything. Yeah-- like I really trust others with my passwords. *Elevator stopped working. *Sanka instant coffee at the breakfast bar. Good things: *Heated hallway floor. * The API desk clerk- she was awesome. Overall, this Microtel was cobbled together with bits and pieces from other hotels & made to appear cohesive. Fail... Not an epic fail; but a fail, nonetheless. read more

I only rated this three stars because I think that's what they are going for here. The room was about $140 per night and it delivered value at that level. The room was small, but I expected that. It was clean, the bathroom was compact but efficient, the bed was comfortable and the staff helpful and friendly. This little hotel is reasonably priced, clean and conveniently located. There aren't many amenities (there is a breakfast that I haven't tried yet) but it delivers on everything it promises. I'd stay again. read more

There is an entrance on each of the 4 sides. None were labeled to indicate the office. Only one has a ramp, and it's taped up to warn people of the damage. My wife is disabled, so she had a difficult time getting in the building. The steps on the other side are so worn and rounded they're a slipping hazard. All of the entrance steps are two-by lumber instead of concrete. The bathroom door wouldn't latch. It looked like someone had hollowed out way too much wood from the door frame. The continental breakfast was pretty slim. The biggest issue was that we had to use their INSTANT coffee. The other guests said to go next door to a coffee shack. We heard another guest complaining at the desk about the strong cigarette smell in her room. When she asked if they allow smoking, the clerk said no. No AC, ceiling fan was so noisy we couldn't use it, couldn't open the window because the screen had a hole in it and mosquitos were getting in, the tub dripped all night long. Just not a good experience. Luckily the bed wasn't too bad if you can get past the big mirror on the wall behind it. read more

Horrible! Drive 15 more minutes to Anchorage for a better experience. The parking lot is full of deep wet potholes that need a high four wheel drive and everything is broken and dirty. My wife and I stayed here for a few days when her sister graduated from UAA. We chose the location because it was on Eagle River near her family, and because of the price. This is a very bare bones hotel (hence the term "microtel") the rooms are small and the free breakfast is meager, this is not an extended stay luxury place. Why 5 stars then? Because for the price, it's great. The rooms are clean, the bed is firm but comfortable, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We checked in in the middle of the night and the young man on duty was so perky and sweet, you'd never know it was 3am.If you are looking for luxury, spend the extra and stay at a resort, but if you're looking for a quiet cozy place to lay your head a few hours and brush your teeth between adventures, it does the job wonderfully. read more

Disgusting!!!!! Bathroom floor was so dirty and hairy we bought our own cleaning wipes! Carpet was dirty and stained. Dog hair all over carpeted baseboard. Heat would not turn off, so had to sleep with window open. (On the first floor) Bathroom door would not latch. Outside door does not close (Supervisor says that is because of earthquake.... 3 Years ago!) On top of all that, we noticed a $200 charge on our credit card from them. Only after we called them did we find out that it was for damage that they just found in our room, that we did not notice (under a desk), and definately did not do! Staff will not give me the manager/owners number, only email address. I have seen other reviewers say the staff makes You feel like everything is your fault, and the staff is always the victim, and I will completely agree. Read the reviews! We are not the only one! This hotel has a long history of not caring what the customers say. I would be ashamed and embarrassed if I were Wyndam! But, I blame Wyndham as much as I blame the local staff and owner, because Wyndham allows them to keep acting like this while displaying their name! We are done with Microtels AND Wyndham. read more

**READ THIS REVIEW** I am a 62 y/o woman who has traveled quite a bit. I rarely write reviews and when I do they're mostly positive. Unfortunately, not today. I was on a tour bus with 41 other travelers when we arrived at this hotel, after a 15 hrs. on the road we arrived at 3am. tired and sleepy. The Indian gentleman at the front desk (Martin or Marteen?) started out cordial enough. The first person who requested soap, he provided. Then when more people started to come down for soap, towels or shampoo, he got upset and denied everyone else the basic necessities until the next morning. When a lady in our group said "thank you so much you are very kind" sarcastically for not giving her shampoo, HE LOST IT, then threatened our coordinator to cancel our 19 room reservation. The rest of our stay he was rude and dismissive to all our party. *Many of the keys deactivated on the first day of our unfortunate 3 day stay. *The wifi never really worked. *Our bedroom window was broken and taped up. *There was no iron, shampoo, conditioner or soap in our room. * But more importantly the service was just awful. If you're going to be in the hospitality business at the bare minimum, be hospitable. And if you can't take the heat.... find yourself a job you enjoy! read more

One of the most sadly run places we've ever stayed. The room was oppressively hot. The cheap, noisy ceiling fan mocked us all night. The tv reception was abysmal, supposedly because there was a wintry mix of precipitation. Walls very thin, and you can hear most everything next door. I was afraid if I closed the bathroom door, I couldn't get out, because the screws were both so loose the doorknob was literally about to fall off the door. No hairdryer available in the room. The breakfast was replenished by the front desk clerk, who did not stop to wash her hands between tasks. The small fridge where they kept the milk was barely cool. The health inspector might shut this place down during the next visit. Tables were sticky and not wiped down between seatings. Someone spilled juice in the elevator and left it for someone to slip in. I'm giving two stars instead of only one, because the room was cleaned well. Bravo to their housekeeping staff! read more

There are only two real options for lodging in Eagle River, and this is the only chain choice of the two. It was a dark and stormy night, and I was attending a party in ER. I wanted to do the responsible thing, and booked a room here versus driving back to Anchorage after a couple of drinks. The room was small, and the furnishings sparse. Two thin tiny pillows adorned the bed, and I had to get two more to sleep my way. There were abundant cigarette burns pretty much everywhere, but to their credit, the room did not smell of smoke. Which was a good thing since I booked a non-smoking room. I opted out of the free breakfast, but could have probably scrounged something together from what I observed. I did try the coffee, and it was marginal. I found the clerk to be very friendly, and he provided the extra pillows straight away. read more

The staff responded to inquiries as though you were an annoyance to them and couldn't take the time to even try and smile when you walked through the lobby. The icing on the cake was when a friend of our party was sitting in the lobby and overheard the front desk agent hang up the phone and respond to a guest request by saying "What do they think this is? Stayed in two different rooms over the week i was there. First room, bathroom door took some effort to keep shut. Second room, bathroom door would not shut at all. I really appreciated the service here and how the staff managed my long, but chopped up, stay. I was going to be in Alaska and needed to be in eagle river for 6 or 7 days, but not consecutively. Although it was an odd request, they still at least gave me a suite room. Yes it is small but it is called MICROtel for a reason. They cleaned up promptly and had no issues with cleanliness at all. The only thing that bothered me was being able to hear the people in the room next door for all the days I stayed--the walls are paper thin. I mean listing that they have a luggage cart as a positive point is really making an effort to point out something positive. The thing about this hotel and this area is, it's in the small city of Eagle River where there are only two hotels available so it's either this hotel with all it's con's or one other motel that is not a name brand motel. It seemed as though there were local people who were actually living in this hotel for long periods of time. For weeks there was a huge banner hanging from the outside of a guests bedroom window that read "auto nero" when I mentioned to the front desk they said that the hotel manager was aware of the gigantic banner. Yet that banner hung there for weeks. I know because I was there and saw it. It just made me question the security at this hotel because they allowed such a huge weird sign to be billboarded on the outside of their hotel for such an extended period of time. It made me question the sanity of other hotel guests and the general safety in this hotel and it made me question if the manager of this hotel really cared at all considering nothing was done to remove such an odd banner. See attached photo I can't even make this stuff up. Be aware that out of the three floors the 3rd floor is reserved for smoking guest and guests with pets. I conclude with suggesting if there is any way possible you can choose a hotel in Anchorage and commute to Eagle River I would highly recommend doing that because this hotel wasn't cheap and for the same price you can find a much better hotel in Anchorage that would definitely offer you a better over all stay. If however you have no choice but to stay in Eagle River then you only have 2 choices in accommodations. If you need to stay for a long period of time this hotel offers a bi-weekly and a monthly discounted rate. In closing there were no visible bed bugs and that's great however I don't recommend this hotel if you can stay at a better hotel in Anchorage for the same price . read more

RUDE - so rude. Hotel guests beware, the manager's son will hang up on you for asking a question. We were charged an additional $60 in pet fees, there was no pet in our room. Where to start? No towels in the room so had to carry them up from the lobby. Discovered many of them had holes in them. Dingy room in general with ridiculous number of stains on couch. Shower curtain brown on the bottom. Walls are VERY thin. Police responded to hotel because neighbors across the hall got into a fight with a knife. Police tazed the person outside our room. Naturally he starts screaming. Had to give statement to police all at 4 am. Plus side, the coffee maker worked in room. Few other things worked, like the window locks. Overall, a memorable experience, but surprised Wyndham would let their property fall into this state. It's a much better deal (and cleaner, safer) than the hotel we stayed at in downtown Anchorage. The staff there was always very friendly and accommodating. We stayed there for 5 weeks with two large dogs and they helped us out by giving us a larger room on the first floor near the exit. I have heard the hotel had been upgraded recently. That makes sense because we didn't have the problems some people posted about. I'm glad I didn't read those reviews before booking my stay. Especially great for PCS moves!! I travel extensively for work so I have stayed at many hotels. This was by far the worst hotel I have stayed at. I'm not super picky but I do expect to stay in a safe, clean, and comfortable environment. Unfortunately this hotel offered none of these things. It's really unfortunate because with a small investment this hotel could go from 1 star to 3 easily. The outside of the hotel needs some desperate weeding and clean up. There are stains all over the carpets in the halls and in my 3 night stay I never once saw any cleaning staff. The front desk staff does the laundry but no other cleaning was happening. I never even saw a vacuum and it was very apparent that one was not used inside my room or in common areas. My room was never cleaned. My bedding never changed. My carpet never vacuumed. The only thing they did was to pick up my dirty towels and semi replace them. The bedding was stained and smelled. I went an bought 2 blankets and slept on those. I had to ask for a second pillow and a blow dryer. If it's warm you have to use the box fan that came in my room. No AC or climate control. The carpet was filthy. My door lock did not fully latch. The front entrance/parking is dark and had no lights which made it uncomfortable to walk out to my rental car. Sketchy people all around. If I hadn't have prepaid I would've turned around and left. Sleeping in my car would've been more comfortable. Save yourself the trouble and look into AirB&B or VRBO. I wish I would've because there were much nicer/safer places on those site for less than I paid for my room at this hotel hell. read more
