Massively overpriced and dirty. Over $400. Sit with that number. I travel quite a bit and am used to paying $200-250 for a decent, clean and new room. I haven't stayed in room this bad in quite some time. I landed at the airport at 12:30 am exhausted after an 11 hour flight. I called for the shuttle - she said it would be a 1 hour wait since they only had ONE shuttle which could only seat 10 ... unfortunately, it had just picked up a party of 10 and was now full. This the wait. The room had an old noisy heater, cheap and chipped furniture, and the bathroom smelled gross and musty AND HAD PEE ON THE TOILET hinges. DO NOT book this place. Go to the Marriott where you'll at least get a clean room. read more

We were going on Cruise out of Seward and needed to stay close to the Airport to pick up the bus that was taking us to Seward the next day. We decided to stay here since it had good reviews and fit our needs for this trip. Once we arrived we called the hotel and they sent their shuttle to come and get us. 24x7 airport shuttle service. This is not a local shuttle. This will provide pick up and drop off to airport only. Friendly staff overall. This is an older hotel. Needs a little cosmetic work in some areas (carpets cleaned as an example) but overall pretty kept up. Our room had 2 Queen beds(beds were firm but comfortable), had a large fridge (about double size of a Dorm Fridge), 32" TV and microwave. There were also 2 comfortable chairs along with a desk & Chair. They do provide a free breakfast with a good selection of items to choose from. The usual items like scrambled eggs, cereal but there hot cereal is instant out of individual packets. They had pancakes, yogurt, and a variety of breads to select. Today they had Biscuits along with Cinnamon Rolls (that weren't bad actually tasty). I needed that cinnamon roll like a whole in my head but it did pair well with my coffee. Overall impression decent place to stay for a day or two. It was pretty full. They have a small gym. I included a few pictures of our room. read more

This was a solid, standard Holiday Inn Express experience. Staff: Meets expectations - Generally welcoming and helpful. Appreciated the small convenience store in the lobby, which sold toiletries that may've been forgotten, snacks and small meals for those staying a while, etc. Basics/amenities: Meets expectations - Bathroom not only had a venting fan, but also a heat lamp! - Room included a larger-sized "mini fridge" which included a freezer - Basic fitness facility was adequate, though the cardio machines (elliptical, recumbent cycling machine, treadmill) seemed like they needed servicing (terrific to find a water bottle filler in the gym!) - Indoor pool - Would've appreciated additional electric plugs by each side of the bed - Overall, good counter space in bathroom - Air conditioning unit worked well - Wi-fi worked well in all areas of the hotel - Ice machine was available read more

Carmella left me speechless with her out of this world customer service. I had asked for extra oranges during the complimentary breakfast and she promptly handled my request with urgency. She also took the initiative to take extra care into making sure I received my extra room key as I had left my original key all the way upstairs on the 4th floor. She continued to accommodated me with an upbeat personality and friendly demeanor so much that it prompted me to write this very review right now. Our room was clean. The A/C was cold (believe it or not, we needed it). The shower was GREAT. Breakfast was good (although the omelettes were burned one morning). If the front parking lot is full, know that there's more parking in the back. Good place, and we'd happily stay there again. read more

We arrived in Anchorage past midnight and needed a few hours of sleep before our road trip up to Fairbanks. It was a bit pricy for what you get by the airport, but it's Alaska. They had a 24 hour front desk which was nice and complimentary shuttle service, though we rented a car from the airport instead. The room was your standard holiday inn. It was clean but some of the upholstery was stained. The bed was comfy, but the walls were super thin. We are both light sleepers, so it was not good. We heard people in the halls all night and morning, and we could even hear the plumbing from neighboring rooms. They had complimentary breakfast from 6 to 10 am. It was mediocre at best, but convenient. The staff were friendly enough. read more

Busy place. Most people are there for a night because they are just arriving in Alaska or they are catching a flight out in the AM. We arrived early, before check in and were able to get into 2 of our 3 rooms. Let's talk airport shuttle. My first call I was told 5-10 minutes. I waited. Finding out their were 2 other ppl waiting for the same shuttle- we called again with the same answer. After 25 minutes I called again and the girl told me she had not spoken to me and it would now be 10-15 mins. The wait was over 35 minutes- and the driver acted like it was no big deal. It was to me because the rest of my group was already at the hotel and waiting on me. This experience is why the stars dropped off. Breakfast starts early and gets busy quickly. I didn't feel like being in the mix of a crowd of people so I passed. read more

No frills hotel. Conveniently located near the airport. They have a free airport pick up or drop off shuttle. You have to arrange for it ahead of time, just call and ask. Great pizza place in walking distance. There's also a Korean place but it was closed when we were there. Not much else around this area for tourists. Nothing within walking distance. read more

Air conditioner/ heating until very noisy. We could hear everyone in the hallways, all night long. The shower curtain was barley on the wall, seems like the hotel could use some maintenance work done. The hotel got rid of the hot tub, I asked a staff and they said, they had head it was from COVID. This used to be my go to hotel in Anchorage. Affordable and clean but the last two times the rooms have been smoked in and had a really bad odors. When we got to the front desk this last time I said we definitely want a clean odor free room and let them know about our last experience with the property. They gave us a room and we went to check it out and make sure it was clean and odor free. We arrived at the assigned room and sure enough this time it had a propane type odor or maybe sewer gas. Went back to the front desk and checked out. The attendant on duty asked if it was a propane type odor? Knowing we just had a bad experience with the property they give us a room with a foul odor? I have stayed at this hotel for business often over the last ten years and I am sad to part ways! Never again at this property. Not sure what has changed if it is cleaning staff or management but this property is one I will avoid in the future. The cost per room has gone up and the quality has gone down. read more

First impression was bad. At 6:00 pm the front doors don't open. You must call/buzz to be allowed to enter. What kind of high crime area am I in? The room is fine except for the $99 TV, its a 25" ?with an old analog picture. Really? TVs in the 40"+ range are no more than $300 today. Totally unacceptable. the hotel was nice enough but I was very irritated they charged $150 deposit and it takes upto 14 days to get the credit! We stayed in several different hotels while 2 weeks in Alaska. No others charge a deposit! The bed and pillows are great tho. read more

When you arrive, one of the first things the check-in clerk admonishes you, is to make sure you separate your card key from your cell phone as it might de-magnetize your room key. Whether or not you heed the clerk's advise (we did), it will be fruitless as you will need to have them re-code your key each time you use it during your visit. Come on. You knew your door lock system is failing which is why you give the advice up front about the cell phones: so you have plausible reason to shift the blame for its continued failure. Shame on Holiday Inn Express owners for not spending some profits on modernizing and upgrading the key lock system to something which actually works. The rooms are clean once you are able to get into them. The staff is friendly and accommodating which is why this review doesn't have one star. read more

This hotel has unlawfully stolen $700 from me. I made an online reservation in February 2023 for 2 rooms for a family trip to Alaska for travel in June 2023. I then tried to cancel it online 3 days later but the system would not let me cancel it online. I called the hotel and spoke to the front dest (Marilyn or Margorie I believe) and was told it was canceled. Easy. I never recieved a cancellation email. So I called again and was ASSURED the reservation was cancelled. Then on May 27th, 7 days before supposed arrival, I was charged $700! I immediately called the hotel and was transferred to Bonnie, the general manager. I left 8 (EIGHT) voice mails over the course of 4 days and was not called back. The charge remained on my credit card. Bonnie the General Manager avoided calling me back and did not respond! Since there was no online proof that I cancelled the reservation in time, my credit card would not view this as fraud! But this hotel is unethical. To this day, after leaving several more messages, general manager Bonnie has not responded!!!! This would have been so easy to clear up, but this hotel and Bonnie chose to STEAL $700 from me by charinging me for a stay that I cancelled twice over the phone. Shame on you!!!! read more

I stay in a lot of hotels from Hilton to Best Westerns and even the Puffin Inn from time to time. I travel a lot for business and pleasure. So I compare many factors. I'll first say what I liked about this Holiday Inn Express. The room was nice, staff was friendly and also very nice and the breakfast was okay, nothing special, but average with the usual. The room was clean and the bed more comfortable than most hotels. I think it's that Holiday Inn gives you different firmness of pillows. It's a very nice touch. Now what they could do better with; The free "High Speed" internet was a joke! I've had dial-up that was faster. Really. No way in the world could I do any work from it so this is a deal killer for me as I'm in Alaska to work. The room was HOT!! I opened the window as soon as I got in the room to cool it down. I also turned down the thermostat to 66. I got it below 70 and closed the window and went to dinner. When I returned the room was at 77. I checked the thermostat and it was still set at 66. I opened the window and had to sleep with it open so now my room was noisy from the traffic and jets at the airport but at least bearable on temperature. I got a discount to stay here from my work so I had a good price, but the normal price is about $140 in the winter and double that in the summer. I've stayed in hotels at half this price that are much better with regulating their heat and actually have high speed internet. BTW, it was March when I stayed and about 40 degrees in the evening and freezing in the morning. No reason for the room to be 77 with the heat turned off. read more

This was and is a solid hotel. The rates are a tad high. I'd paid $290 after taxes, for a room ($259 rate) I secured literally at the last moment around 1:30-2am for the night with check-out being at 10am, so really only got a room for 8 hours, less than 1/3 the day. I was hoping for a "midnight special" room rate on unsold inventory, but they don't have that program in place here. Regardless, the front desk service was nice and the rooms were clean and pleasant. They have a complementary breakfast, when I went featuring a few meats (ham, turkey sausage), biscuits & gravy, pancakes,and lots of other carbs (breads) with fresh fruit, oatmeal and a few other items. It's conveniently located near the Airport, so if you're a business traveler and can expense lodging, this is a solid place to stay. read more

The one staff member behind the desk is friendly and working to serve guests as best as she can. But she is serving "breakfast", answering the phone, solving problems, checking people out, making reservations for the pool, gym, and business center, and making coffee. The business center is out of toner, no spoons for "breakfast", no access to pool, or gym. These measures seem to reflect cost cutting measures, not covid related changes. read more

I would not recommend. Here were the 4 things I disliked: 1. The maid only made one of two of our beds, and she used the same sheets; gross and half a**. They justified it by saying we asked for standard room service and not a deluxe room service. BS. In what world does any standard service include making half of the beds. The sheets thing I could see could be argued but not half work. I will give them this, they cleaned the toilet, but the entire room was still trash everywhere and our food in the trash was started to get bad, we were the for a week, and it made the room smell. 2. THEY GAVE US FALSE INFO ABOUT THE SHUTTLE LEADING TO US MISSING OUR FLIGHT. We called the front desk and asked them if we can reserve the shuttle, they said "what time do you need it?" Which makes it sound like we can reserve it at any time and it is personalized for us. We said we need to leave between 12 and 12:30, so they suggested "how about 12:15" and we said sure. They DID NOT tell us that the shuttle ONLY departs at :15 and :45 of the hour and that it would LEAVE the people whom reserved it if other guests were ready to leave. It would have been immensely more clear if they had said "we can only reserve times for :15 and :45 and it wait 3 minutes, take anyone that didn't reserve it and leave. They ended up contradicting their own policy because we waited until 12:33 and the shuttle arrived and we asked if we had to wait until 12:45 to leave (otherwise we were calling a Uber) and the shuttle guy said no he is ready to leave as soo. As we get in. He was helpful but the facts are the front desk people and the driver had conflicting routines!!! 3. On everyone travel site like hotel.com, booking, trip advisor etc it shows them having a hot tub. Considering it's Alaska, it was an important amenity. They should update their business partners and remove the misleading photos. 4. The complimentary breakfast sucks. Equivalent to a motel 6 or bare minimum. It had frozen to ready food that was doable for one day and then was nothing we wanted to eat for the last 6 days. They could invest in somethign so simple like healthy hard boiled eggs which would have sustained us for the day but they had fresh cinnamon rolls and pancakes and all carbs forwarded stuff, breakfast is suppose to be protein forward. 5. The hotel is EXTREMELY smaller then it looks and it is very far from anything. We wish we would have spent more and stayed downtown . Nothing is nearby this place. There is only a Wendy's. read more

I'm the type of person who grew up thinking that Super 8 Motels and Best Westerns were as good as it gets. I'm not sure what motivated Holiday Inn to re-brand, but I like what they've done. I felt very comfortable at this hotel and it was very moderately priced. They have a lot of the same amenities as most nice hotels, including a gym, laundry, pool/hot tub (indoors - it's Alaska!), free wireless with computers and free printers, and a relatively decent continental breakfast (just don't eat the hard boiled eggs, they're really rubbery and gross). I found the hotel to be very clean, and I appreciated the fact that they double sheet the bed so you don't have to lie on those nasty comforters that never get washed. My complaints are few and far between. For one, the gym is stiflingly hot no matter what the weather outside. Originally I had an issue with the internet and using a printer, but the people at the front desk were so nice that they let me go into their back room and print from there. Maybe they noticed I'm in high-stress mode again with school applications, but I really appreciated it. They are all about customer service here! read more

Our favorite hang out in Anchorage, great bkfst food, too. Close to airport for a quick get away. Also close to the lake for a walk and watch the float plane take off and land. Rooms are quiet and clean and enjoyed their pool and hot tub. The fellow was there adjusting the chemicals in the hot tub just as we entered one morning so we know they take care of it. read more

I was very impressed with this hotel. It was close to the airport and the shuttle runs 24 hours, and they're very prompt. Important when it's snowing outside and you are from the West Coast where it doesn't really snow. =) The free breakfast was good and there was a lot of variety, though I would've loved more fruit. I appreciated that it runs till 10am for those late sleepers like me (granted, I was working until 2am or so). I also appreciated the speedy wifi. But I was particularly impressed with the rooms. I had a business-type suite with 2 queen beds, a desk and a couple of armchairs. There was a fridge and microwave in the room, and a nice TV. The decor was tasteful, the bathrooms were nice and very clean, and their toiletries (if that's a factor) are Bath & Body Works. Not a bad hotel, I tend to stay here because it is close to the airport. Rooms are not bad, as long as you are NOT on the 1st floor. Those rooms are bad. You can't even get their "high speed" internet...which is a joke. But what do I expect, almost all hotels have crappy internet, my phone usually has a better speed. Pool is ok, but the temperature is very hot in the room. The gym equipment isn't that great, but it gets the job done. Staff is pretty nice, they are all friendly. Not a lot of front parking, but plenty behind. Not bad, but not great, but I keep returning. Room Tip: Stay away from the 1st Floor! Lobby is on the 2nd Floor. read more

Wasn't up to standards. Stayed in many hotels and this is subpar for a Holiday Inn Express. Bed was not the best and room smells like smoke even though it's a non smoking facility. I booked this hotel weeks ago because it was near restaurants, had a pool, airport shuttle, and two queen beds for my family of four. At 6pm I call Tyler to let her know e'll be coming in around 11pm so she knows to hold the room. Fast forward to 11pm. We get in only to be met with an "apologetic" Tyler, who upsold our room to another guest. But don't worry, we booked you at another hotel that's not near any restaurants, doesn't have a pool, and instead of two queen beds, we get 1 queen and a pull-out couch. Thank you Tyler and the staff of the Anchorage Holiday Inn, hope the up-sell was worth it. read more

Perfectly adequate hotel, friendly staff, no major problems with my stay. I've heard there are some issues in Anchorage with unclean hotels, but I didn't notice anything like that at HIE. My room had a queen bed, TV, mini fridge, microwave, desk and a couple chairs. I used the shuttle to/from airport and they are quick and run all hours of the day. Front desk provides free toiletries like soap, razors, toothbrush, etc if you forget anything. Breakfast is one of the better I've had! Biscuits, sausage/bacon/ham, gravy, eggs, pancakes, bagels, waffles, toast, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, instant oatmeal, coffee, juice, tea, condiments - 7 days a week. Two draw backs for me were the bath and wifi. Tub is very small, and water rarely gets hot enough long enough to enjoy a bath, but showers are OK. And the wifi is so poor that even writing this review is difficult. Seems it can't handle the traffic of a fully booked hotel, service goes from 4 bars to 1 bar constantly. WE booked the Millennium but was transferred here when they had overbooked. The room itself was nice until we realized that the drapes were ornamental. The sheers went all the way across but the drapes on either side did not cover the window, so if you are on a 2nd or 3rd floor, probably not a huge privacy problem, but our room overlooked the parking lot, it had been a long flight and was 1am by the time we realized we would sleep with anyone able to look in our room. The front desk's response "Wow. no one ever told us that before: really !?!?!?! Also I'm not sure what standards the people commenting on the breakfast have, but they are using styrofoam plates and cups; and the eggs were powdered eggs. the pastry was marginal; thankful for the yogurt and juice. read more

Pros - Clean, friendly staff, great breakfast, comfortable beds and pillows. Cons- never any towels for the pool, fire alarm went off early in the morning, car alarm was going off the next night. My husband and 3 kids all got swimmers itch. We stayed 4 nights total. Not sure we would stay there again. read more

UPDATE: While I still won't give more than one star because of the way my daughter was treated, I will say that they GM called her and did apologize for the incident and the way the staff treated her. She was very accomodating, reversed the charges for her room and offered to comp her another stay.What an ordeal for a young woman to go through alone. Thank you for finally doing the right thing. If I could give negative stars I would!!! I am on the phone with my daughter right now trying to resolve a huge security problem at this location. Someone on the hotel staff let a stranger into my daughter's room at 2am in the morning. I'm not sure if there is some sort of crime ring operating at this location or what, but everybody seems to act like this is no big deal. This stranger was let into my daughter's room, woke her from a dead sleep TOUCHING HER!! She is getting a complete run around from local management & Holiday Inn corporate, because they are saying since she booked through Expedia they won't do anything. However, Holiday Inn gets paid for rooms regardless of where it is booked. Expedia did not open her room door for a stranger, Holiday Inn did that!! The hotel is responsible for security. What kind of organization would have such terrible security as to allow a one of their employee's to aid in breaking into a customer's room and then do nothing to eliminate her anxiety over this? If you have a reservation here cancel it, if you are thinking of staying DON'T! THIS PLACE IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST!! Sleep on a city bus before staying here. read more
