It's been three years now and compared to many of our friends who went with other pool companies, I would tell you our experience was the best. Regarding my last review on 3/7/21, I still haven't heard from anyone. We encountered a significant issue with our pool pebbles, which a pool expert pointed out as spalding. The glass tile we were offered at the designed center should not have been an option since Texas weather will be susceptible to cracking and causing damage in high temperatures. We expected professional guidance, but unfortunately, it was never mentioned during our visit. Despite numerous attempts to get this resolve, we received zero callbacks, which we find it very unprofessional. I hope someone from Mid Cities can call me to help me with this. read more

To make a long story short, I had to cancel my pool plans and was told by my salesperson (Dave) that they would keep the $5,000 deposit, but that I could use it in the future to build another pool or pool repair, it was a credit on our account. Today I went to their office to discuss the $5,000 and wanted to use it for pool repair. Today, they said "he lied" and he should not have said that. Our pool was finally completed at the end of April. The good news is that it is beautiful! For that, I would give Mid-City Custom Pools 5 Stars. For the horrible seven months to get it done, I would give 1 Star. So I think 3 Stars is fair. I want to be very clear that we adore Josh Lee, our design consultant, and sales person. He is a fantastic young man. He was 100% professional through it all. Another hard worker is Mark Andrews. Once he was officially in charge of our project he worked diligently to make everything right. The general manager, Ross Woerner stepped in to work on our project in late March or early April. He worked with Mark, and together they saved the project. Had it not been for them we likely would have ended up in court before it was finished. There was a construction manager assigned to the project for the first 5 or 6 months. I'm not sure if he got fired or quit during our build. I'm also not sure if he contributed to the overall bad quality issues we were originally dealing with. I do know that he wasn't responsible for the horrendous experiences I had with the owner, Don Pierce. Dealing with Don was the worst experience I have ever had when it comes to paying someone to do work for us. Before dealing with Don, I have never had to walk out of a meeting in tears due to outright disrespect and utter disregard for what we were going through. I could not see eye-to-eye on anything with Don Pierce, and I'm certain he feels the same about me. Because of my husband's constant attention to the whole process and his attention to details we have a beautiful backyard now. Every day he was communicating with someone at MCCP about something. Back to the result... It truly is a beautiful pool, covered patio, and fire pit. We have not had one bit of trouble with is since it was completed. It is an oasis in our backyard. The pictures will speak for themselves. You could chalk our experience up to a collection of bad things happening to good people and make your decision to use them solely on the final result, and that may be fair. I know there are upstanding people at Mid-City Custom Pools that care for their customers and deserve to make a good living. If they aren't selling and building then, they aren't getting paid. Sometimes it's the leadership that gets in the way of everyone else trying to do the right things. Again, focus on the final pictures and know going into it that if you do go with them, you may need to be directly involved in the project details from day one. You may decide that the cost of the pool will make it worth an investment of your time to be more attentive or it may not. The third tip I posted on 2/21/2015: Mid City Custom Pools has yet to complete our pool. It has now been drained 4 times so that MCCP could try to find and fix the water loss problem. We had to hire our own leak detection company to discover 7 leaky fittings. The pool has been partially re-plastered once and then completely re-plastered again. The second tip I posted on 2/4/2015: Do your homework and research. Reviews should be unsolicited. Check the sources and personal connections. These guys are very good at talking you into a contract but once you give them the first payment everything change; they stop following up with you, you never know when they going to show up unless you follow up with them. The contractors they use are average.., if you are detail oriented, do yourself a favor and find a different company. This company don't care about the quality of the finished work and unless you are on top of them telling them what you don't like and or what is wrong they will just continue with the job in a very low level quality standards. Don Pierce, the owner was also very " attentive and polite "when I went to see him regarding some issues I was having with the work done; he made me believe that he will take " personal" care of the issues when in reality, he was just gaining time until the work was finished to drop his promises. Make sure that you take your time to have everything well documented on the contract even the smallest detail, I made a mistake by not making sure that the gate I wanted was properly documented on the contract and ended up with a cheap gate that does not make any sense nor match my from gate. I was expecting that Josh the " designer " that came to my house was picking something similar to my from gate as I thought that one of the reason he came to my house was to make sure the job proposal/ design was compatible to the rest of my house; I judged the price that they charged me for the gate and really thought he took that into account. Legally I could not do anything since the measurement and material was what it was written in the contract but I expected better from this company.. My recommendation to you all, 1-If you like high quality finish, don't go with them. ( forgot to mention that the concrete slab they poured was off for a " few inches " and as a result the posts are not at the same level if you look at the bottom and that they Damaged my sprinkler system in the process which they fixed after the 3 time they came to try to fix it..) yes I know, I'm very picky.. But I paid for it and expected better quality. 2- If you still decided to go with them, make sure you take your time to document EVERYTHING you want even the most minimum detail that you might think is common sense; there is not such thing for them. 3- Do not expect them to do the job in the promised time or think they will follow up with you, you'll have to be on top of them. 4- Do not trust the owner ( Don Pierce) and if possible avoid to have " Don T " taking care of your project; he is not very helpful... read more

The worst company to work with, took them more then 8 moths to finish, demanded to get paid before they finished the job. After 2 yrs plaster started to fade away, pool equipment stopped working a week after the warranty expired and they don't care. Call paintair and see what they can do was their answer. Chose to use electric heat pump for my spa (less cost, plus I didn't have to dig the gas line all across my back yard, jeopardizing my trees to die, or dig some out) because I was told that I can't use it during cold days, which I was fine with. It used to heat up my spa very well and fast, from 67 degrees to 96 in about 3hrs, when it's 80+ outside. Summer time, with in 30 min. Now it stops after it heats up only 2 degrees above the existing temperature, I called in, they sent a tech out, and he said it's working fine... lol. How is that working fine if it doesn't do the job that it did. I wish I never worked with them... be smart and stay away from them!!!! Be aware of the reviews, I was also very happy when pool was done, even tho it took them more then 8 moths to finish, of course, I got my pool. Why would I be happy. But be mindful about afterwards, customer care and actual equipment maintenance. And what now??? I have to pay another $5k-$6k for another electric heat pump, and another $5k to replaster the pool. This company is unprofessional, unpredictable & slow. Communication is terrible. Took 10 months to complete our pool with very few bad weather days. The only process that was smooth was the design & signing the papers. After that, they treat you as if they are doing you a favor when they finally respond or show up. Fabulous Experience! After first contracting with another pool company who went out of business and left about 40 households with unfinished projects we went to Mid City Custom Pools to finish the remaining ~40% of the project. They were extremely understanding of our situation and gave us a good price and timeline. Final price was what they quoted and the end results are perfect! They are a great team to work with and are extremely knowledgeable and customer-oriented. As they have been in business since 1973 they have an excellent rapport with our city of Colleyville and quickly transferred permits. All inspections passed first time as they do quality work at each step of the way. We now have a pool, spa and firepit that we love.When we are ready to add our outdoor kitchen they will definitely do the job. They built my pool wrong. A company who has built pools for as many years as they have you would think they would know what they are doing. I live in Trophy Club which has hills. I'm on a down slope so my neighbors water runs into my yard. I explained this before MCCP started to build my pool. I had countless people To my house to fix MCCPs mistake and all of them immediately noticed that my pool should have been built higher. I'm still trying to fix MCCP mess. We recently completed our pool by Mid City Custom Pools and they did a fantastic job. Family loves it! From the get go, they were a few steps ahead of the competition here in Southlake. Their design was unique and the quote was an easy 10k less than a local competitor. Building a pool was a longer process than expected, however Manager Eric was there every step of the way. My only knock was that he should have been harder on me on a few upgrades! Regardless of the issue or question, Eric was quick to respond and correct the problem. Absolutely terrible to deal with. Had Josh out to quote a patio cover and pool for our backyard. Told us that we wanted for a patio cover was not possible and that they could only do freestanding cover which is not what we wanted, or what we received multiple other quotes for. For the pool he did not listen to a thing we said we wanted and didn't want. Pool estimate was nothing like what we discussed in person, he increased the size of the pool by over 50% of what we wanted and when I questioned him on the estimate and asked him to go back to the drawing board based on what we discussed. I received no email back or response. After having 5 different pool companies , come out to the house , we choose Mid Cities. I had called 15 of the previous customers, from a list given to me , by Josh our designer. All 15 of their previous, customers had good things to say. So, we choose them. Our pool came out better then expected and Renee our Supervisor, was amazing during our entire build. Ross, the GM made us feel at ease, knowing they would support any , if any issues along the way and after the build. Josh, Renee and Ross, are all great to work with. Knowing the owner likes to respond to comments, I encourage anyone to contact Don about our job. He should explain to you, as he did to me, that our project "slipped through the cracks," as did 11-12 others he acknowledged. The pool - looks great. The process - miserable from the start. The first designer apparently thought the project was too difficult and he decided to bury our folder in a drawer. After receiving a newsletter from MCCP, I decided to voice my opinion about their service suggesting 3 months seemed long for an estimate. I quickly received a call from Ross explaining that their designer was intimidated by the project and had not acted on it properly. No kidding! Within days Don, Ross and Sid visited and determined they could build a pool to exceed our expectations and the design process began again.(Mid March 2018) The design was timely, the quote within range and a time table seemed reasonable ... swimming well before the 4th of July. I would encourage everyone to read/re-read and question numerous aspects of their contract. Basically, they aren't responsible for anything that occurs in your yard. Even though the inspector comes out and marks your yard with orange paint identifying gas lines, cable, irrigation and other hidden lines ... it's not their fault if they hit one or more. It's your responsibility! ASK QUESTIONS. After 5 weeks of being told our permit was being processed I asked several times for an update, each time being told "the city has it, it takes time." To solve my own personal curiosity, I visited the City of Bedford and found that they had no record or permit from MCCP on file for us. Our designer once again blatantly lied when approached. I decided a personal trip to MCCP was due and Ross too said it had been submitted. In reality they didn't submit it until that afternoon - 4 days later we had approval. (Side note: Ross is no longer with the company). Shortly after construction began we were approached and told we'd have to have additional electrical added, much to my surprise. When reminded about our initial consultation with Don, Ross, Sid and their electrician viewing our panel our designer decided to pay a personal visit to review. He agreed that we had been completely approved and if additional costs occurred he would pay for them himself. He also apologized profusely for "misleading" us about the permits. He felt bad, but had been told to put us off. (A sudden case of morality to defend his honor - better late than never). The saving grace for our pool was our project manager Scott Hall. He knew the circumstances going in, knew we were already unhappy with the level of service and also wanted to change our perception of their company. He did everything in his power, unfortunately we still "fell through the cracks" when it came to scheduling. The girl in the office responsible for communicating - never did. Even Don seemed surprised that we hadn't heard from her during the process and all Scott could do was show up when his crews did. I applaud Scott's efforts for trying to stay on track even with the lack of communication. SUGGESTION: Have daily conversations and ask questions. Had I not asked, our pool would have been a play pool thanks to Ross determining on his own that's what we wanted. We started swimming in August (we started the project in March) and the final project definitely looked like our expectations. The rock work is beautiful and the design works perfectly for our back yard. We wanted a pool that MCCP could feature for prospective clients and mentioned numerous times we'd love to be an advocate. Well, we already had to have repairs made for leaking on the tanning ledge and we currently have cracks where concrete was used instead of mastic. When another Don showed up to discuss the issues, he decided that sarcasm and humor would be a good approach. He quickly found I lost my sense of humor with MCCP long ago and all I wanted was answers. He agreed that our pool surface was poorly done, the cracking needed repair and it would require draining the pool to polish the surface. I decided to get all this in writing to ensure we didn't have any more lack of communication. Repairs to be made in February/March 2019 ... we'll finally be done after a full year. If you decide to work with MCCP, I encourage you to ask for Scott to oversee your project and get Mark for pool school - these guys are men of their word and did a great job. Beyond that ... read everything, ask questions and document every aspect of the process. You'll want to have all the facts. Please feel free to contact Don Pierce, the owner, for substantiation of my comments. He knows this entire commentary is accurate and a very fair assessment of our relationship. My previous negative remarks were a mistake and a misunderstanding on my part. Please know, that after having met Don Pierce, owner, I would recommend Mid City Pools to everyone and anyone I know. We have a beautiful pool that was built by Mid City in our backyard. It was the reason we bought the home in TC. It is the envy of all our neighbors, and, quite frankly, looks like a resort spa! The previous home owner, unbeknownst to us, did some ridiculous things with coping that, long story short, not only negated his warranty, but cause severe damage to the coping in general (the moron had it faux painted with an experimental product). Don Pierce, owner of Mid City Pools offered to fix our coping AT A FRACTION OF WHAT OTHERS QUOTED US. $8K instead of the $15K-$20K others were asking. Don, Ross, Mike and the whole crew are upfront and honest. They are giving of their time and explain everything in detail. After meeting Don yesterday, I was so impressed with his work, documentation (he had pictures of what the old owner did to mess up the coping) and made us fully aware of the fact that Mid City advised against such nonsense. I would recommend that anyone looking to build or refurbish a pool call Don at Mid City Pools in Hurst. He has made every effort to help us out of a tough situation that he had no control over and do it at a fair price, in order to make us happy. We've had a great experience with Mid City Custom Pools from the beginning. Josh designed us the pool of our dreams that fits perfectly in our relatively small backyard. He worked with us on our budget and though we didn't get everything we wanted, we got all our must haves at a price we were comfortable with. Eric handled the build with the utmost professionalism and always with a positive attitude. He had to work with our home builder on timing which caused some delays, but Eric and MCCP did everything they could to move things along on our timeline. And if course, there were some hiccups as is expected with any build, but MCCP addresses the issues quickly (for example, the pavers were uneven in some spots and the team came back out to level them the next week). I called Mid-Cities Pools for a repair to our Pool Pump. We placed the call on a Saturday and were told the earliest would be Monday. On Monday, Ashley called and said it would be Tuesday or Wednesday. On Wednesday, I called back and asked Monica what was the status of getting a service repair person out to our home. She couldn't say because she couldn't find the paperwork. I needed to call the tech about it. I did and got his voice mail. I called back to Monica at Mid-Cities and asked if she could call her tech, she started to speak to someone else in the middle of my conversation. She was very rude. When I asked to speak to a manager, she put me on hold and then came back and thought I was a different customer. If you didn't have Mid-Cities put in your couldn't call them for repairs. They don't Care. The people there are rude and don't call to give you any updates. I have been waiting with our pool off for 5 days. No one will even call on the day of the possible work to tell you someone is coming out. This company is worst than dealing with the telephone companies. They can't give you a basic time line. Then when you have questions you get people like Monica who talk to others while you are talking to her. They sigh like everything is an inconvenience. DON'T"T go to Mid-Cities. STAY AWAY! IF YOU DO BUSINESS WITH THEM, HIRE A LAWYER TO SORT THROUGH THEIR 10 PAGE CONTRACT THAT IS TOTALLY ONE SIDED...READ BELOW... After working with their designer for a few months fine tuning a pool design, then getting a final quotation for the final design and signing a 10+ page contract and giving them a large deposit check...they came back a week later and said there was a "general price increase" and wanted more money! They said they forgot to add the general price increase to the quote and contract. The GM, Ross, blamed the sales guy, Laine. Ross said he was able to overrule the sales guy, after the fact, since he personally had not signed the contract himself???? I asked why was all this not reviewed before I signed since everyone knew that I was coming in to sign the pool contract that day? He had no answer. I gave them 5 days to reconsider their unethical "shake-down" tactics. Ross the GM did not offer any resolution. In fact, he defended his actions. He said the 10 page contract gives them the right to increase prices and to stop work at any time within 90 days for any reason...and unilaterally deduct the value of the unfinished work!!! WOW!!! He was not getting any closer to resolving this matter with statements like that. I told him I would share my experience on social media. He was angry! I said nothing to be angry about if you treat your customers fairly in the first place!!! I prefer to do business with people I can trust. I said I am good with a "handshake" normally...but weasel words, 10 page contracts, one sided actions, after the-fact-price increases???? ....THESE PEOPLE ARE UNETHICAL...CROOKS...SHAKE DOWN ARTISTS.... Everybody makes a mistake from time to time. Once brought to their attention they failed to resolve it! That is why it is a 1-star review. That is what demonstrates their lack of business ethics. We contracted MCCP in the summer of 2018 for a custom pool, deck and outside kitchen. They were unable to complete the pool within their "estimated" schedule, even with cushion for weather. The pool has had several warranty claims, the deck is sinking on one side and the outside kitchen has had some minor electrical problems. The biggest issue, however, is the fact that they installed the pool at a lower elevation than the yard and when it rains hard, the yard drains into the pool. When confronted with the issue, the reply was...that's the home owner's responsibility. Well, we had been in the home for only 8 months had had no idea of drainage issues. We had a bit of a hiccup when the estimated completion date was pushed back but Ross, the GM, stepped in and made the situation manageable. Ross did a fantastic job of communicating through the whole process. They completed our pool in about 6 weeks. I'd recommend their services to anyone who asks. I would also recommend that you ask for clear expectations as to what additional costs may be incurred (irrigation, additional soil, extra fuse box, etc.). We are 8 months into a project that is still incomplete. We signed our contract months before COVID hit hard & we should have been swimming months ago. We were told the company is overwhelmed by new business & basically we aren't priority. So pools purchased in March are being finished before ours. Half way though our construction our job's Superintendent left & we were never told anything. Work just stopped & no one ever came out to our house. Then 1 day we had a meeting with what we thought was the decking guy, only to find out it was our new Superintendent (15minutes into their mtg) No communication, no urgency, no concern that our job was on the books months before these other builds. We had to pay them the rest of the money before they would prep for our plaster & took a quick vacation to get home in time for it. Guess what we are now home & being told it will still possibly be another week or so- which is code for another month. Don't trust this company, go with someone else. I haven't even gone into detail about all the different issues with construction we have had. We went with this company because they have been around a long time. But clearly it's not because of their product or professionalism. ***Nightmare to work with. They completely redid our pool a a few years ago and we have to have it done again due to their poor work. The tiles are falling off as well as the coping is cracked and the entire cool deck has enormous gaps and cracks around the whole pool. They have done ZERO to repair the damage they caused. After seven months of trying to get call backs, scheduling times to meet with MCP salespeople and getting permits, etc, we finally have our pool in. We contacted them in September 2015 and our pool was finally finished in May 2016! It is beautiful but there were many snags. I have to take ISSUE with PATSY's review below that states she had her pool in in a month. Was this a kiddie pool? Seriously? BS! It took us almost two months to get our permits approved alone. MCP subcontracts almost everything; our pergola, the installation of the flagstone coping and pavers, outside grill, whatever. Rain delays (not their fault) followed by an entire week of sunshine with no follow ups or work completed which IS their fault. Trying to contact their foreman,albeit a nice guy, is a crap shoot; you sometimes get a quick response. Other times you get crickets. He's also running his own small business on the side. The coping is uneven as they use subcontracted laborers ( most who cannot speak English so communicating is nil ) and we had to have some of the pavers and coping replaced or grouted over as they were cracked or broken. There is a split rail in our two month old pergola. Still crickets on that as it too was subcontracted and we've been blown off by the subcontractor on that problem. We had to pay extra on many things especially additional replacement sod that was placed incorrectly. When it comes down to the line, their lack of micro managing their subcontractors' work and quality control is unprofessional, at best. Our designer, Lane, was very nice but trying to get ahold of him was a roulette game. I think they have taken on too many projects without enough oversight to ensure excellent quality control. I'm hoping the Pierces will take note of such AND CORRECT it. Obviously there is more demand than supply of pool contractors in this area of DFW!!! We are happy with our pool and outdoor oasis. But it was short of a nightmare trying to get to this point. Our highest suggestion is to read and read again their contract BEFORE signing and know where you will get "nickeled and dimed." Ask many questions. Even pay an hour of an attorney's time. We ended up paying over 5% over quote that was considerably higher than where we moved from. You are now informed! read more
