I am a student that was traveling from KY to FL for a conference when I experienced issues with my car. They allowed me to bring my car in and checked it out in order to help figure out the problem. I visited Mid Georgia Service Center on a recommendation today, and I am glad I went! My starter started to go out the night before, and I needed it fixed fast because I use my car for work. Mid GA got me in and out, and I was able to make it to work on time. The owner and office staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. My questions were answered respectfully, and I was given a fair quote for the work that I needed done. Many regulars came in and out while I waited for my car to be serviced, and you could tell that there was a lot of trust built up between everyone. I think that's a good sign of a business. Our family broke down on I-75 on the July 4th. We found Jeff and his team at Atkinson's Mid Georgia Service Center the next morning and they went right to work on figuring out what was wrong with our van. He had to drive to Macon to get the parts but still got us put back together in just a few hours and charged us less than his very reasonable estimate, which I thought would be 2-3 times as much. Then he sent someone to pick us up at our hotel. If I lived anywhere north of Macon I would use these guys. I have never felt so well treated by a mechanic who could have so easily taken advantage of us. My greatest thanks to everyone at Atkinson's Auto for turning our nightmare into a pleasure. Our circumstance: My boyfriend was on his way back from South Carolina. It's about a five hour drive, and the idler pulley and serpentine belt went out in his car around Forsythe. He called a tow company, and then me, and I proceeded to drive from my workplace in Atlanta down to pick him up. This is where I first come across Mid Georgia Service Center. It wasn't actually too hard to get to from the interstate, and his directions were easy to follow. It doesn't look like the cleanest place ever, and I certainly wouldn't want to be there after dark by myself, but in the daytime, it looked manageable. Thank god they had a bathroom, and that was clean. The inside lobby was clean as well, so so far so good. APPEARANCE/LOCATION: 3/5 Then the stain of the place appears: the staff. These guys didn't look professional in the least. They looked like they'd be equally at home at a really bad dive bar. But whatever, a job is a job. So at this point, my boyfriend, who has been there for forty-five minutes, has told them what's wrong with the car (his step-father and he had noticed that the idler pulley was looking kinda ready to die), but the guy refused to look at it at all until the next day. When I got there, it was about 5:15, and the place closed at 5:30, and the manager, the MANAGER, literally told me that he wasn't doing anything because there were only fifteen minutes left before the closed. I can understand that you want to take it easy because it's almost time to go, BUT YOU DO NOT TELL A CUSTOMER THAT. If I'm standing there watching you, your butt better be working until that clock says 5:30. You can do a lot in fifteen minutes, like write a really in-depth review on Yelp.com so that other people won't be forced to deal with your crappy customer service. So I'm trying to beg him to do something in the next fifteen minutes, and then he just up and leaves to avoid talking to me anymore. The other guy in the office did not get off his rear at all, and he was looking at Facebook. Completely unprofessional. I'm fairly certain that the only guy that actually worked in this place was the mechanic. If you find any positive reviews of the place, make sure that they aren't being posted by one of the employees, because my boyfriend found that one of the reviews was posted by the Facebook Guy. CUSTOMER SERVICE: 0/5 Apparently, the concept of communication has eluded this place. Supposedly, we were charged for two hours worth of work, but it took us three days to get any information that the car was done, and that was only because WE CALLED THEM. They should have called us the instant the car was finished, and then we could have made arrangements to come get it. We called them the first time, got one of the incompetent office staff, who said they'd "call us back." Fifteen minutes later, still no answer, and in order to get to their office within their ridiculous office hours, we kinda needed an answer immediately. So we called back and got the mechanic who put us on hold for two minutes while he physically checked on the car. He should have known it was done, but whatever, he actually helped us so I'm happy. He told us that the car was done and that we could come pick it up, and another ten minutes after that, the lazy office worker called us back and told us we could come get it. Note that this is early in the day, so I know they weren't packed. COMMUNICATION: 1/5 They told us that it would cost us about $220 to fix the car, which I believed was something really over the top, but since we were desperate, I just paid it. While I was paying it, the manager only spoke to my boyfriend and did not make eye contact with me at all, even though I was the one handing him a couple hundred dollars. Seriously, to whoever owns this business, get better office staff that look like they manage something aside from a candy aisle at the local grocery store. Believing that they threw us under the bus price-wise, I called my local auto repair store (the one I would have taken it to) and, surprise, surprise, found out that they would have charged me MORE, like about $320. So as far as price goes, this place seems like they do fair pricing. PRICING: 4/5 APPEARANCE/LOCATION: 3/5 CUSTOMER SERVICE: 0/5 COMMUNICATION: 1/5 PRICING: 4/5 OVERALL: 2/5 This place has a decent location, and they did fix the car for a fair price, but their customer service and communication was ridiculously bad.
