The bowling alley is usually pretty tame, lanes are easy to bowl on. For a local house, it usually boils down to the patrons for me, and I find that the crowd here is usually less distracting than at other alleys in the area. Usually haha. At the very least, I almost never get nasty looks here when I ask people to stop picking up my bowling balls, unlike at some other bowling alleys -_- Paterno's Pro Shop is where it's at! I've been to a couple of pro shops both local and out of state, but my experiences have been average at best. I'm not young, but I was definitely new to bowling, and I feel like I've been absolutely traumatized and discouraged to bowl by other pro shops. I feel like the local pro shop is vital in keeping the sport alive for new and young and upcoming bowlers. If you aren't welcoming to new folks, the sport will die, and it will be your fault. As soon as I stepped into Paterno's, the folks in the shop made me feel at ease. Everyone greeted me with a smile, and there was zero pressure to talk about making a purchase. In fact, the owner Phil advised against me purchasing a new ball until I figured out my style more. Phil spent so much time with me to try to help me get better at the game, without pressuring me to buy any fancy new, expensive gear. Instead of having me purchase a new ball, he worked with me to re-drill my existing ball at the time (for much, much cheaper) to better fit my hand and throw style. He passed on an easy sale so that I could salvage a ball I'd already spent $$$ on! Now I've been coming to this shop for a few months now and have bought balls for both myself and my mom from them. Phil and crew are so friendly and welcoming, and are always happy to make time to chit chat and give tips. This is the Pro Shop experience I'd heard so much about from my tournament-bowler friends... and this is where I send all my friends and anyone I meet who is looking for a local pro shop!

Jerry, and the rest of his team took notice of what I could and could not do and pushed me to my limits. The Northstar team is very professional, while also being friendly. It is a fun environment with music playing as they train you. They have every ball imaginable and two basketball hoops in the facility. The best way to describe a workout is that they work many different muscles. At one point I was on the treadmills, then on an erg machine, then lifted light weights for reps that worked my back and finished it off with some plate pushes. They also offer a shake for once you are done with the class. Shakes cost $4, strawberry was awesome.

Jordan has come to the kids' swim practice to observe and talk/learn from their coaches so as to understand their needs. These are an outstanding group of people committed to helping people become their best version of themselves mentally and physically!

Just adding a quick 2025 update…read more The staff is still 11/10. The normal bartender is ultra friendly and helpful, everyone loves her. Regular customers are all pretty respectful of one another. You still get random families with wild kids (sometimes wild adults lol) but you just live with it. They have string pins now. Compared to a few other string pins I've bowled on, these are pretty well tuned. They care about bowling here, which is nice. I appreciate that they allow you to reset the pins yourself on the lane, saves everyone time. Still my favorite house to bowl at in the area.

My daughter is 6 so for her age group, they break out the kids by level and groups so no group is bigger than 7-8 kids per instructor. They have several instructors at once looking over the kids to ensure safety. I feel like they have the class well organized. This place is definitely geared towards girls instead of boys. For beginners I don't think it matters, but if you are looking for more advanced training for boys, I would go elsewhere. They offer 10 weeks sessions and gives discount if you sign up for multiple sessions (i.e. 6 month/ 1 year). Makeup class is allowed once per 10 week session. They also offer Winter and summer camps and birthday parties. For covid safety, they don't require masks which is great since the kids can get heated doing all the flips and jumps! They check temperature and sanitize the kids hands when they enter the facility. Parents can drop off the kids or stay at a viewing lobby while kids in class. I recommend this place for your little ones!

Not only does it hold true to the name 'beginner' class (others I tried were false advertising) but the whole class itself was exactly what I wanted, and my body needed. The owner Heidi is phenomenal and so patient with everyone who attends- she has a true teachers heart and the talent of a professional athlete / dancer. Taking a fitness class from anyone can be made or broken by the leadership and you won't be disappointed by the experience here. I can't wait to keep attending and continuing to be (finally) excited to move in a workout!!
