Among other events, I grew up with the incredible Huntington Symphony Orchestra, who hosts all their indoor concerts here, as far as I know. Not only is it a gorgeous theater, but it has remarkable acoustics, much better than far larger and newer theaters I've been to for orchestral concerts. I highly recommend sitting in the balcony for an event like this, as sound is absorbed by clothing, so music is much more easily listened to (and watched) from the balcony. The Keith Albee is truly beautiful, and I am so happy it has retained its historic beauty over the years. There is an old fashioned box office, detailed carpeting, and even lovely restrooms. The restrooms include a "lounge" with seating. I was always mesmerized by the lights and details of the theater itself growing up, and still admire them every time I go as an adult. I highly recommend attending an event here if you haven't, especially a music event such as the Huntington Symphony Orchestra. You don't need to be "high class" to come here and feel that you belong. I have always felt at home in my beat-up Converse, no matter what the people around me are wearing. It is probably my favorite place in Huntington, and truly a gem of the city.

One of the main reasons that I love this theatre so much is that they are constantly making improvements to enhance the theatre experience for their patrons. The formerly open-air theatre is now climate controlled and enclosed, the lighting and sound systems have been updated, and this year they upgraded the hard plastic seating to plush velvet theatre seats! Their website is easy to navigate and it makes purchasing tickets a breeze. The stage set-up ensures that there is truly not a bad seat in the house. Last, but certainly not least, the talent is phenomenal year after year. Musicals of note that I have seen there over the years are Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Misérables, The Sound of Music, and Phantom. The shows and voices were incredible every time. Plays and comedies are put on there as well and well worth the price of admission. Speaking of which, ticket prices are surprisingly affordable, and if you are a savvy ticket buyer, you can usually find a thrifty Thursday or a "two for Tuesday" performance for a reduced rate. I especially appreciate this because even though I am on a tight budget, I make it a point to take my 12 year old to as many shows as possible because he loves them as much as I do!
