I was a pro racing driver for many years, so maintenance of my vehicles is critical and I know what good service is. These guys are true mechanics and understand automobiles. I have them service both my Jaguars - XJL and XKR convertible - both supercharged engines. They have repaired/replaced the suspension, brakes, oil leaks (Jaguar!) and regular service. New owner completely tried to get over on me with my A/C. Said I needed a new compressor and tried to charge me over 1,700 for it. Called another shop for an estimate--950. Went to said shop and they found of my compressor WAS FINE AND I JUST NEEDED FREON! Went from almost 2,000 to paying just 400. Dont go here. Do not trust them. On another note the guy is incredibly homophobic?? Unprompted he told me all about how were hates his gay brother and how he consistently tries to beat him up over it. I purchased a car battery from Midas with a 48-month warranty. Just two months later, the battery failed. When I took my vehicle to the Lexus dealership, I was informed that the battery installed by Midas was an aftermarket battery and that it was faulty. I returned to the Midas location in an attempt to resolve the issue with the manager, Isaac Munoz, and another employee, Richard. They claimed that they were under new management. Despite explaining the situation, I was told that the only option available was a replacement battery. Given that the original battery failed after only two months, I no longer had confidence in the quality of the batteries they sell and did not feel comfortable accepting another replacement from them. I requested a refund, but they refused. I am extremely disappointed with how this situation was handled. A battery failing after only two months raises serious concerns about the quality of the product that was sold. Rather than working toward a fair resolution, the staff refused to acknowledge my concerns or offer any reasonable alternative. During one of my attempts to resolve the matter, the manager, Isaac Munoz, ended the phone call by hanging up on me, which I found to be unprofessional and disrespectful. Their lack of customer service, transparency, and willingness to stand behind the product has caused me to lose trust in this Midas location. I reached out to national customer service at Midas and they did not stand by the Midas franchise either. I would not recommend doing business with this store based on my experience. I went to get brake pads replaced. The service took less time than expected. They always have decent coupons online to save a couple bucks as well. However, I drove the car home and started hearing strange noises. Checked the front wheel and the caliper was not bolted back on, scraping the entire inside of my rim. Took it back to the shop and they rectified their mistake. For that, I feel 3/5 is more than fair. read more

A catalytic converter has been stolen from my Toyota Prius over night. I brought it to Midas this morning and they got inspection and estimate done quickly. Well, converter replacement isn't cheap and I knew that so that was alright. What I really appreciated was the the shop called me an Uber to go home since it takes a few hours to fix it. I thought it was a lovely gesture on the day I was bummed about my car. They are also calling an Uber to pick me up when my car is ready. 5 starts for sure for the great customer service!! I went here to get my car inspected near the end of closing time but they were still extremely fun and polite. They definitely made me laugh so hard. They have a good rapport with their customers because all of the customers who were picking up their cars knew the inspector. If my car needs service, I'll definitely visit this Midas in the future! A while back, when I had a bad experience with a previous store manager, I stopped going there. But recently after speaking with Gilbert, they immediately help resolve the issue with empathy and professionalism, and fixed my car. The only thing I look for is trust, and I think they're great. Getting your car fixed is always an ordeal, and this time was no different. After going to one other shop before this one, I ventured off to Midas in the West U area because they quoted me a lower price than the other place I brought my car to. In fact, it was several hundred dollars lower. I wanted to get a brake job done (the works -- we're talkin' front rotors and pads, and back drums and shoes), and they quoted me $325 for the front and $265 for the back. I also called about my check engine light. I'd gotten a scan run on my car, and the 2 codes had shown up -- P0446 and P0441. Basically, that meant my charcoal canister and VCV (vacuum control valve) needed to be replaced, and computer reset, for my light to go off. Since the other place quoted me close to $700, I came to Midas because they said it would be in the upper $300s plus tax. The place was easy to find, and Hank (the owner) was very helpful over the phone, always getting right back to me when I called. So I brought it in and we agreed to get the brakes checked, the canister replaced and an oil change. However, we told him there was an oil leak somewhere in the car and that might need to be checked out, too. So when he called back the next day, our conversation surprised me. First off, he told me that my brakes were fine -- they didn't need to be replaced. That took me by surprise, as they don't seem to be in great shape when I'm driving around. He also told me that there were several things that needed to be replaced, including the oil pan gasket, head gasket and trans pan gasket. The total for these was well over $1,000, which I wasn't ready to pay. I don't doubt that these things were indeed wrong, but I was so confused -- the last guy told me my brakes needed to be replaced, and this guy is telling me they don't! I declined all service on my car, minus the canister replacement, which did indeed turn off my check engine light! Whoo hoo! What I didn't like about this whole experience was that they did the oil change, even though we had told them there was some oil leaking. I will acknowledge that I signed the sheet indicating I wanted the oil change performed, but I realize I shouldn't have done that. The other shop I took it to told me that they wouldn't change my oil because it was leaking -- I thought that was a better way to deal with the situation. The service was pretty prompt -- I took it in on Monday late afternoon, and got a call early Wednesday morning that it was ready for pickup (was originally supposed to be done Tuesday). I ended up going on Wednesday evening to pick it up, before their 6pm closing time, only to find the shop closed. As it turned out, the power went out and they closed down for the day... so I just ended up going early Thursday morning to pick up my car. All in all, the job was accomplished. However, there wasn't anything exceptional about the service, and they didn't seem overly eager to explain what was wrong, etc. (Although he did explain the dangers of having these gaskets leaking...) I think that in the future, I may come back here, due to their reasonable prices and Hank's great turnaround time in getting quotes back to me. read more

The people who work there are friendly, but that doesn't make up for how much they overcharge for repairs. I found quotes for half as much when I needed my oxygen sensor replaced. The wait was never too bad, but I also went in the middle of the day. They do not take reservations for state inspection, claiming that they're not legally allowed to, but I definitely have been able to at other auto shops. As a small complaint, the second time I got my oil changed, they didn't replace the mileage sticker from the first time I got it changed. read more

I needed an oil change, I was planning on driving to Dallas that weekend, and I got a coupon in the mail for Midas. I thought the stars were aligned. Wrong. I don't know if I came in during an especially busy time, but it took over an hour for an oil change, and when it was finished, the guy at the front desk tried to sell me replacement parts that turned out to be incredibly marked up. He scared me so much with all the "problems" my car had that I took it the next day to the dealership for a 40-point inspection... As I was leaving, the same guy tried to ask me out. Not a great way to do business. My time was wasted, I feared driving my car, and I was made uncomfortable. Needless to say, my oil changes will be done elsewhere in the future. read more

I know that in general one would expect online reviews for mechanics to reflect more negative experiences, but this place gave me especially bad service. One week previous, I'd been to another Midas in the area for a routine oil change and checkup. The morning I brought it into this Midas, the check engine light came on and (about to take it on a long journey) brought it to this place to ensure it wouldn't conk out on me soon. John told me it would be about an hour for them to see what the problem was, so I waited in the lobby for that time. He subsequently told me there was a problem with the engine's thermostat that would cost upwards of $350 to repair. I was able to negotiate that down to about $300. John said it would be another hour, hour and a half to fix. I waited that time in the lobby, but when that hour had passed I asked and was told that it would be ready "soon." Of course, it wasn't ready for another three hours, but each time I asked and was told that "all there was left to do was" x and that it was almost ready. So in total I waited more than five hours in the lobby. That's not the worst part. I drove home, and the next morning the car clearly starts to chug as if it's going to drop dead at any moment. I take the chance and make the long distance drive, but when I take it immediately to another repair shop am told it will be almost $1000 to fix the ignition coil. It's not just suspicious timing, it's out and out lying and cheating. Avoid this place (and most Midas locations) at all costs. read more

One star was generous. Avoid this place. My car stalled, so after they got the trouble code and told me what was wrong I said I'd come back Thursday. The manager said, "But the part is on it's way over right now. I already ordered it and they're about to deliver it." He'd already told me I should rent a car, so my plan was to do that and leave it there. Guess he changed his mind. Turns out they charged me $150 for a part that costs anywhere between $50 and $80 at Advanced Auto Parts, which is who delivered this particular item as I sat in the waiting room. This morning I calmly asked the manager how much he paid for my part. "I'm not gonna tell you that! We make money off parts!" (a LOT of money) After calling customer service another man called me and argued that I got a top-of-the-line part and it cost over $120. I told him about the parts at Advanced Auto and he told me they're all no good. Interesting, because a $50 item had a good amount of positive reviews. Also interesting, because these "no good" parts come from the same place as the one they put on my car. I'm appalled at how both men spoke to me. I'm a female, but I'm not an idiot. I change my own brake pads and oil. I service my car much more than the average girl. He knew I worked in a Harley shop for over 6 years, but that didn't stop them from talking to me like a moron. I'll take my "top-of-the-line" part for now. Next time, and I recommend everyone do this: find out what you need, go to an auto parts store and buy it yourself. Make sure you have a mechanic you can trust. Read reviews. Don't get stuck last minute like I did. I know where NOT to go now. I've told so many people about this experience and now have a list of trustworthy, respectful repair shops. Never again. Honestly, not only will I not return to this Midas, I'll avoid any of them. Left a really bad taste in my mouth. My advice to those managers: you're in the customer service business. Might want to learn some customer service skills. Also, talk to your customers. Some of us have a bit of intelligence and will respect you for giving us options, rather than trying to steal every last dollar you can. read more

Do not use these people for any computer or electrical work on your vehicles. This shop was recommended to us for repairs on our Tahoe. After at least a month in their shop replacing a control computer and spending a considerable amount, the vehicle was returned to us barely running, a check engine light on and filthy. We have had the vehicle repaired since and discovered they had cut a wiring harness at the tank and bypassing a fuel control module making the vehicle dangerous in the event of an accident. Their modification removed any safety elements to shut off fuel flow in the event of power loss. This could lead to an explosion. The fuel tank was improperly installed after their work. Filling the tank became very difficult due to the air return line being jammed and crimped. Every attempt to deal with the store manager was an exercise in futility. He was rude and uncaring having to defer to his general manager. We are still missing engine covers despite calling them several times. Stay away from this place! read more

I called to see if they could fix my brakes and told me I could get them checked for free. After they checked it they immediately asked me to sign to get them fixed for about 350 dlls!! After I refused they got upset at me and tried to pressure me to get the money. I had to make an excuse telling them I had to wait to get the car fixed. After I got home I saw that one of the wheel cover was missing. Went back and one of guys said that he had no idea. So I looked around the shop myself and found it right away. Very friendly service. I've been here 3 times now. They seem very fair and only try to sell the customer exactly what they need. Other places I've been will try to scare girls into getting filters and belts replaced long before it's necessary, but I've never heard any of that here. It would have been so much better had they actually been right about the results of the check. I went there knowing that I had two lights out, a low beam headlight and a reverse light. When he gave me my receipt packet with the "Courtesy Check" results it said I was good to go. All lights worked, everything was filled. Right. How do you have a 10-15 point check and miss one?! Excellent service, great price and a very trustworthy business! This location is under new ownership! I brought my car without an appointment 10 mins before they closed! The owner checked my car and filled it with coolant to ensure I could make it home ok. I have a long commute so this really made me feel like he cared about my safety! The next day I dropped my car off on my way to work. I was kept informed all day about the progress and cost to fix! My car was done before I even finished my shift! They also offer a Memorial Hermann employee discount! So wonderful saved me some money! The best part was the follow up post service making sure my car was doing well!! Thanks so much! Took my car in for a routine oil change and tire rotation and the job was done just fine. But I got a call before it was ready to be picked up saying there were all these serious problems with my serpentine belt, air filter, and rotors - I said I couldn't have them fixed that day but took a look at them when I got home and everything looked perfectly fine. My air filter looked practically new, there were no cracks in my serpentine belt like they said there were. Clearly they were just trying to get me to spend more money on perfectly functioning parts of my car to make a buck! Will not be returning to this location in the future! read more

There are half a dozen places to get your oil changed within a mile of this Midas - go to one of those and save yourself a headache. I only needed an oil change and they do appear to have done that correctly. However, they could not be bothered with putting down a paper protector on the drivers seat floor and I got home only to discover there were oil soaked treads in my floor mats. read more

I have been to several auto repair shops in Houston and this one is absolutely the worst of them, by far. So I wanted to do a simple state inspection on my car, which runs very well without any noise or problems. Their behavior was so rude, unprofessional, and dishonest and they wasted my time by making me visit four times without finishing a simple inspection although they charged me for that. First time I went there, "their machine was down" so I came back the day after. After several hours of waiting, the rude staff told me that my car needs a CV axle replacement that costs $400 and without that replacement, they won't pass the inspection. (Note: CV axle is not even part of the state inspection!) But regardless of that they charged me for the inspection service and they gave me a 10-day grace period to fix this axle and come back to finish the inspection for free. So I replaced the axle in another shop for $250!! and came back the next week to finish the inspection for free as he promised me. But guess what? "The machine was down" again so they asked me to come back the day after. Finally, I took my car for the forth time and he told me "their machine is still down" and I need to take my car to another shop in order to catch the registration deadline. But I have already paid them for the inspection. When I complained, they just denied the whole story and whatever he already promised me to do. VERY RUDE! I do not recommend this shabby shop to anyone. I wish I could rate them zero stars. read more

Like most people that write reviews, it is only when they have a bad experience (or maybe an extremely pleasant experience they will never forget). This was NOT the latter. I will never go to Midas again, for anything. Specifically this location on Bellaire Blvd, in Houston. I went in for an oil change yesterday. First, the manager tells me it should only be 20-30 minutes. This is great news because there was only one other car in front of me, and it sounded appropriate. When 1 hour passed, i remained calm because I myself work in the service industry and I always try to pay it forward. When time was approaching 2 hours, however, I walked up to a worker to simply ask how much longer and he said "ask the other gentleman"--so I attempted, but he would not answer me. Then, they tried to over charge me about $20.00 and finally "did me a favor" and waved it. I have never been charged the amount they asked for. I asked to use my Midas card and the manager said it would take up to 10 minutes JUST for the coupon (obviously exploiting my being in a rush after the 2 hour wait!) so I declined. When I get home, I notice my under bumper is loose and 3 screws were missing and 3 screws were not placed in. I drove all the way home like this, and I called and asked to speak to the manager when I thankfully noticed, and my response was "hello"---I asked for his name and he apologized for the over look to properly (or even at all) put my hardware back together. I asked for my money back and he declined saying he would have to quote "jump through a lot of hoops to get that done" but would happily offer me 2 free oil changes. I am not comfortable going back there period, and he would not let me redeem it at another location. I went there today to get it fixed, it still took about 40 minutes to get done, a job that should take less than 10. I took my wife's car to Midas for a simple oil change and can say that this was the worst experience I have had at an Auto repair shop. Within 2 hours of dropping off the vehicle, they called to inform me that every fluid desperately needed to be replaced. They first quoted a total high price then proceeded to suggest various discounted prices that would be available if I took care of the matter today. I was very skeptical of the diagnosis so decided to pass on the repairs and just pick up the car. Later that day, my wife heard some dripping coming from underneath the car, After lifting the hood, we discovered that the oil cap had not been replaced after the oil change, After this experience, we simply do not have the desire or level of trust needed to return to this business. After reading the reviews on yelp, we learned that there have been other experiences similar to ours. read more

I appreciate how the mechanic explained what he found and why certain things needed to be fixed. It seemed like he really cared about how well I understood what he was doing. Customer service is excellent. This is a good location that will take care of your car and not make you spend more money as necessary. I have been going to them for about 4 years. Last time I had a problem it took a while to get fixed but they worked with me throughout the process and ultimately resolved the problem. I recommend them based on their work and service and have a great manager (Justin) at this location. Will continue to do business with them in the future. I have never had a worse experience than the Midas experience. Basically, I was told my oil change would take about an hour to change so I waited. After an hour and a half, my car was still parked outside. They finished after two hours and a half, but the sad part is that they pumped out the old oil for about 10 seconds so I am pretty sure they did not get it all replaced (not even thinking about if they replaced the filter or not...). But the worst part was the upsell at the end. They wanted my to change absolutely all the fluids in the car, even the transmission fluid which I had changed last year. They were not able to show/tell me exactly what was wrong with any of things they claimed needed to be changed. The sales pitch ended with him quoting lower prices than the full ones, valid only if I got all that done on the spot which I told him that I cannot do since I had a meeting in half an hour. He said that they can be done that fast. Yeah, sure, after keeping me there for 2 hours you claim to be suddenly very very fast! His pitch ended with "If you care about your car you will fix these ..." and "Ah! I see you don't care about your car." and "When your car breaks down in the middle of the road you will remember my advice!". They did the same thing to a women who came to get the oil changed after me... healthy business model which I expect is the reason for their "great" rating here. I came to this Midas on 6/25/16 because online it stated I'd get a 10% discount by presenting my student id. I got my brake pads replaced and front brake rotor resurfaced, the price was fair and service was good. But after I left the mechanic, not even 6 hours later, I hear a rattling noise under the car. I try to pull into a gas station to see what it was only to find out my brakes weren't working. I was able to coast to a stop and upon inspecting the car to see what the noise was I find my rear driver side brake was not installed correctly and left hanging down. My assumption is the screws were not tightened and eventually fell out. I tried calling Midas customer service because at this time it's approximately 9:30pm on a Saturday night and the shop closed at 6pm. Customer Service answers and informs me they only answer for 7 locations, none of which appear to be in Texas. I am redirected to the Corporate Office who isn't even open on the weekend. Now I'm forced to pay for a tow truck, miss work on Monday, and may even have to pay for a lawyer to get this straightened out. Not tightening my brakes is a MAJOR oversight. I had my mother, my wife, and my 2 year old son in the car. This oversight may have cost my family's life. I would not recommend going to any Midas location. The company holds approximately 2300 location and customer service only answers for 7 of them. In conclusion: The service is good if everything goes well, but for the potential risk of my family's lives in rating 1 because there is no 0. read more
