I went for an alignment on my wife's Volvo. It kept pulling after the job was done. I went for a second opinion to another place they said that all my tires were out of wack. They told me that they didn't do anything to your car. I called the manager a week later with the readings the second guy gave me. The manager apologized and said that they cleared house of all their employees and they had problems with the alignment machine. They admitted that I was taken for a ride. The manager said he will talk to corporate and get back to me. That was 4 months ago. I'm still waiting for a refund. What a complete joke. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. I brought my car to them with a power steering issue, mind you I just replaced not even a year ago $2400. They tell me it's the same part I had replaced and it was bad again . They quoted me 4400 to fix after they supposedly ran it through their diagnostic test. I said how did the price double ? There response was the part went up in price and we charge more a hr here for labor. The part has a two year warranty on it. they told me to pay it up front because they didn't trust the warranty company. 2 weeks befor Christmas I said I couldn't do that now I'll pick the car back up. They charged me 200 Dollars for a diagnostic. test that was obviously wrong. Did they even test the car in the first place ? . I Brought it to a different Midas in orland park who originally did the work on it . got a phone call couple hours later the car was fixed . with no charge . that part was not bad at all. System needed a reset. This Midas in merrilville are a bunch of amateurs and crooks never take your vehicles to them at all!! read more

I called this morning to find out about tires because my tires were losing air all four tires. They were filled yesterday at 37 and today they're at 22 this morning. I spoke to Michael who told me he could take care of me today and gave me my quote for four brand new tires, which was phenomenal. I went in and I received excellent service. This was at the Hobart store off of Rt. ... I made an appointment the day before going to this store for an oil change, and I'd forgotten about it just that quick. I was glad to have received a phone call from the shop to remind me of my appointment that morning! When I got there, Tim( the tool man) took my info and got my truck pulled in right away. He offered coffee or a drink free on the house, and told me it shouldnt take long...and he was right. My family has used this Midas for about a year and the three previous managers Mike, Marcel and Scott gained our trust. Their empathy and patience in helping me was priceless. My husband passed and because I couldn't see myself getting rid of his car I have now spent over $12,000 at Midas for the repairs. Because of my experience on 4/5/2025 my family will never use this Midas again. I had an 8am appointment so the car was towed there the night before. My son arrived at 8am. The new manager Billy (William Kulchetz) was rude and offensive causing my son to feel the need to request to be present at the time of inspection and was told he would have to leave and come back in 90 minutes for the car to be looked at. I then went there myself to discuss the inspection and he immediately put the car in the bay after going out of the door cussing. He didn't tell me what was wrong I told him it most likely needed a starter and he agreed. Because the check engine light was on from the previous repairs he needed to check the codes. Because he was angry he made me wait four hours before checking the codes and still did nothing to repair my car, I have to wait until Monday. Monday morning I see my car in the lot so I go in and he claims they just pulled it out of the shop. The car was likely repaired Saturday but he just made me wait being spiteful. He also had his girlfriend who had no knowledge about auto parts trying to quote me a price for the starter. I'm not sure if she was an employee or not. She was on the computer and had access to everyone's information and credit card information. I was surprised at this level of unprofessionalism. Because my car wouldn't start I had to leave it and hope they don't intentionally damage my car. When he gave me the information from the codes he was trying to charge me for repair that were recently done. I thought I was a valued customer, I guess I was wrong. read more

Had an issue with my radiator. Took my car into this Midas and they removed and replaced the radiator. My car is a 35 year old car. Rather than do the right thing and replace the hoses as well (or even tell me about them being an issue), they used the old rotted out hoses and connected them to the new radiator. They started leaking 2 days after I picked up the car. Told them of the issue and they said I would have to have the car towed to them (on my dime) for them to look at it. I ended up replacing the hoses myself. Poor customer service and no concern at all for the customer. Will not return here and advise you to stay away!! read more

FOR YOUR SAFETY!!!! DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO THIS SHOP! In April I took my wife's Jeep here to have the brakes checked with an 8:00 AM appointment. 8 hours later they had the front rotors and pads replaced. That is all they said needed to be done. A few weeks later the front brakes on my wife's Jeep fail on her way home for work. I take the Jeep back: After resistance from the Manager that it was the shop's fault, a technician finds that the safety bolt was not tightened on the Calipers. The excuse they gave was that they had a technician that did bad work and he was fired. As if that somehow, negate's the fact that my wife's life was put in jeopardy. The shop tightened the bolts and "inspected" the brakes again to make sure everything was good. Now after that the front brakes squeaked loudly and grabbed. My wife called and tried to speak to a manager or owner. 2 months later no one called her back. Finally out of frustration I took the Jeep to another shop. This shop, (American Complete Auto Repair) within 30 minutes, found that the calipers and brake hoses were bad and needed to be replaced. The work was done and now the brakes function perfectly. Keep in mind that Midas twice performed inspections on these calipers and did not identify them as bad. So, my wife had to go to Midas Corporate in order to get a call back from a manager. After everything my wife has gone thru his response to our complaint was to blame the shop that actually fixed the mess his shop made and offer a free Oil Change. I have paperwork from Infiniti that says exactly what my car needed then and it still needs the exact same thing today! Not only did they do the wrong side of something I never told them to do (not what I came in for) (I went in for a timing chain replacement)but they also damaged something else that wasn't originally damaged upon arrival! 1) I've used the Midas shop on Rt 30 in Merrillville, IN. several times with complete satisfaction now the franchise seems to be changing hands and the organization is poor, and communication with customers is lacking. 2) Online appointment process didn't work. Waited 2&1/2 hours for the promised callback. Finally, had to call to make an appointment. 3) Counter clerk couldn't tell me what type of battery would be used to replace my old one. Asked her to find out...she never did. Later, I saw a Die Hard being delivered so I asked the mechanic and he told me it was for my car. 4) Clerk asked me to sign a work authorization which showed $434.00 for the battery replacement. The final bill was $590.00. When I questioned the huge difference, she said it was tax and stuff. 5) I watched the battery installation being performed there was NO vehicle inspection as promised. 6) I had to ask three times for the back tires to be air pressure checked. Both needed air. 7) When I got home I checked online for the price of Die Hard batteries installed. $250.00 -$300.00 is the range for battery and installation. Midas charged $434.00 for the battery, $40 for shop parts (?), and $60 for labor. Outrageously overpriced. 8) I won't be going back to Merrillville, IN. Midas or any other Midas again, nor will I recommend Midas to anyone. read more

Probably one of the worse experiences I've ever had that led me to tears.... I got jipped because I wasn't paying attention so it's somewhat my fault. I've never paid over $20 for an oil change, today I paid $65. I'm glad I checked in to warn people to stay away. I should've listened to all the google reviews. I'm convinced they have family making fake reviews to make it seem like they're a good company. This facility is run down and ran by crooked employees. When I ended my 1st part of my review of midas, I had left midas on my way to a auto facility that repair engines located in Hobart Indiana. When I arrived I showed the I believe was the proprietor of the facility. When I showed him my receipt/work order he had a strange look on his face, I asked him what was wrong and he said he was trying to figure out why some of the replaced parts was replaced. He said some of the work might have been warranted but some of the work had nothing to do with what I wanted to have repaired which as I said in the 1st review was oxygen 2 sensor, and to get the check engine light looked at because my engine was sputtering and feeling like it was going to cut off.I'll give you an example of misdiagnosed efforts of midas they told me I had a tire that had a nail in it which it did have another peice next to it. Well midas told me my tire couldn't be repaired then tried to sell me a set of tires for $804 which I had already told them my financial budget which they was constantly doing work and replacing parts that had no immediate bearing on my car repair that i wanted. So the shop that i went to in Hobart repaired the tire with no problem. Now i ask you if you can't properly diagnose a tire how can you properly diagnose a engine properly ? So needless to say i want a reimbursement for the work done and unnecessary parts that was replaced that they told me would fix the problems that i was having with my car. Brought our company van to Merrillville for front end work. They assured me we could get our van back in time to take our clients home in the afternoon. Well, that did not happen and we had to rent a van for appx $200 to get our clients back home. All because the parts they ordered were defective according to them. To make matters worse they, Merrillville Midas, would not compensate us for their mistake which cost us an additional $200. Needless to say, we will not be using them in the future! read more

Tom was awesome today. I had my rear brakes done a year ago here on my 2015 ford 15 passenger transit and something was squealing and making a lot of noise. Turns out a small rock got caught between the caliper and brake pad. So grateful this midas cares about the safety of my kids and didnt charge me for the removal of the rock. I'll be back! I had a new converter installed about 4 months prior. When I left I noticed my check engine light on. I didnt have time to go back then I kept putting it off then my brakes started making noise so I went back to Midas. I stated my brakes were making a noise and asked if there was an oxygen sensor in the converter as my check engine light was on. Tom, the guy behind the counter stated yeah there's two. I asked if it was possible that there was a problem when they changed the converter. He said it would be $90. to do a diagnostics. I told him to forget it and started to leave. He said you dont want your brakes checked? I stated no, not if you are going to chsrge me $90 to check the converter. He then started asking me questions about why I thought ther was a problem. I told him again my reasoning as the engine light was not on until after I left. He started bantering me sbout not coming back sooner implying that I was lying. I told him I was not lying and maybe they had done something when the converter was changed. He got very angry and yelled for me to "get the fuck out!" I was standing on the opposite side of the counter and yelled back at him. He then jabbed me in the throat with his fist. He then came around the corner and was assisted by a shop worker who both grabbed me and shoved me backwards out the door knocking me to the pavement outside. All of this actually happened and since there were no cameras I could not prove that I was physically assaulted. I advised the owner and Midas of the situation. The owner stated Tom had been with them for sometime and nothing like this ever happened. I am 70 years old and nothing even remotely similar to this has ever happened to me. While traveling from Indiana to New Orleans my car started making a noise and had trouble accelerating. I became afraid to continue driving to New Orleans and stopped here. I took my car in and told the owner I thought it was the transmission. My car started making a noise and had trouble accerlerating. The owner was abrupt with me when I told him I think I had a transmission problem. He became defensive when I diagnosed my car. Especially, when I asked him if I could have it by Friday. I took it in on Monday afternoon. He was very short with me for asking. I am a nurse. It seems obvious that it was the transmission. I get how things work. He said it was detrimental that I fix my drive shaft case and some other case. Fix some wheel "hip joint." on my wheels. Okay, I just want to feel safe going back to New Orleans. I am a woman and traveling alone. He did 3400 in repairs which he said were detrimental and could be dangerous. Again, I just want to feel safe. I am alone and driving 13 plus hours. He gave me back my car, doing the exact same thing , and said IT IS THE TRANSMISSION and could fix it for 1000 plus more dollars. I refused. Of course, he said it was detrimental. But they don't repair transmissons there. But they can replace it with a new one. I TOLD THEM IT WAS MY TRANSMISSON. There is no change in the behavior of my car. They said it is dangerous for me to drive home. Why didn't they listen to me instead of being mean to me when I told them what to fix? It just seems shady that I was always made to feel afraid if I did not have it fixed. Only to get it back with the same initial complaint. I just had my car serviced 2 weeks ago in New Orleans by my primary mechanic that I have had for years. He new I was traveling. Also, I just had mechanics at COSTCO place new wheels on my car. NO one mentioned these emergency problems. However, I live in New Orleans and our streets are bad. Again, I am willing to do whatever to feel safe driving back home to New Orleans feeling safe. For the money I spent fixing non transmission items , I could have had a new transmission placed. So now I am fearful and alone. I am driving for 13 hours. I will be afraid the whole way. There is a nice gentleman at the front desk. He is personable, kind and explains everything. He was very good with interacting with customers. However, my encounter with the owner just makes this feel like I was ripped off. Especially, when he barked at me for telling him I thought it was the transmission when I initially drove in for repairs. Now he gives me back my car doing the exact same thing with the same diagnosis I game him. I feel so bad, alone and afraid. I hope I make it home. The nice guy at the counter said he would talk to him and see what he could do. I have spent near 600 dollars in hotels, UBERs and meals while waiting for my car to be repaired. It wouldn't be so bad if I felt that the complaints I took my car in for were addressed because I want to feel safe. But now I am leaving just as afraid as when I arrived to the shop. Except, I spent 4000 dollars trying to be safe and I am being told I am not safe, at all. I doubt there is any remedy for this situation. I just want to go home. I will post IF I make it home. I initially brought my car in for an oil change only, and was informed that I had two leaks including the valve cover gasket and the oil pressure sender and needed a new battery. Beforehand, my car was running smoothly and there was no issues except for the check engine light being on which was already diagnosed previously. After getting the leaks and battery fixed by this Midas the days following my car started misfiring something that has not happened on my car ever before. When taking it back into the shop to see if they could look over their work. They were dismissive, rude and condescending. It is commonplace that if you have work done previously and something goes awry the mechanic or shop will look over it. But this place? no they wanted to charge me a diagnostics fee and blame it on my check engine light being previously on. Furthermore, the worker Tom blamed his boss as "a know it all" after I took it to another shop for another opinion to find that the valve cover gasket they claim to have previously fixed was leaking yet again and that upon them removing it the right hand side got cracked near the spark plugs. I took it back to the shop with this new found information they apologized, replaced the gasket (not the crack) leaving it still damaged and the owner then proceeded to blame his worker Tom for not initially cleaning out the leaking oil when replacing the gasket the first time. Not a sincere business at all and shady practices on both the management and employee sides. read more

The two people in the shop pulled my car into one of the bays, and came back five minutes later, saying that a small part that was loose and that they had fixed the problem. I was driving back from Richmond, VA to Saint Paul, MN and experienced some strange engine problems. Fortunately my Jeep malfunctioned nearby the Midas so I drove it over. Jean and his team were very quick to help and diagnose the issue. They set me up with a rental car and helped me pick a hotel for the night. They had the parts delivered that day but did not have a specific tool sent. Unbeknownst to them the tool is no longer sent with a new timing belt. Jean told me it could take several days for the delivery. I called back later and he told me he had made his own tool from scrap metal. I was out that day! It was a miracle. My Jeep ran like a dream and has never sounded better. This is truly one of the best examples of customer service I've ever and will ever experience. read more

Went to get brakes and Gene the manager called us in the back to show us and explain the problem. He said I'd love to have your business but this should be covered under your warranty because this is a braking system problem and shouldn't be happening at 32,000 miles. He wrote down what the problem was and said take it to your car dealer. Low and behold the dealer tries to say it's wear and tear.Called GM they ended up covering rear rotors but not the front. We ended up taking it back to Midas because Gene was very nice and helpful. He ended up saving our rotors this time so we just needed pads. I went in to get the free courtisey inspection and mention that my brakes may have to be serviced. All of a suudden the inspectiion went to $20+. I tried to ask a question and I was rudely interrupted several times. I decided to leave, if the front counter was going to be so rude, why would I want their mechanics doing anything for me. No thank, I will take my business and money elsewhere. So I went to the valpo midas. Inspections were free and the customer service was good. read more

I've been using MIDAS in merrillville for about a year now and it's always been ok ish but nothing amazing...so when I saw it was under new management I was kind of excited. I'm figured the service had to be better. So not the case. I was quoted two different prices with about a $30 difference for synthetic oil. He told me it would take an hour and a half. I was the only one there. HOW DOES IT TAKE THAT LONG FOR AN OIL CHANGE!?!!!! My husband and I left to grab a bite to eat and when we came back he says that I have some severe damage to me tirod and I need it fixed immediately. As a woman, this happens to me pretty regularly. A routine car check turns into something catastrophic and potentially painfully expensive. So I tell him I'm going to get a second opinion. My husband hands him his debit card to pay and h guy starts to make a copy of the card and comes up with some shady story about having to call another store to run the card because his machine is down. I ask him if I'll get the copy of the card back and he tells me no. That was absolutely not even a little bit ok. So I get the copy back and my husband head to get cash from the ATM. In the meantime the mechanic came in and tried to hand me my keys but they're snatched up by the guy behind the counter. I'm sure we all know how that ended. In the end my tirods look fine. I won't be back and I suggest everyone use one of the other half a dozen oil change options along rt. 30. read more
