Today I want to comment on the unsung professional that is the first line of dental defense -- the dental hygienist. I have always received excellent care. But today I had a new hygienist -- Paige. By far the best I have had in 20 years. Thorough, instructive, and clearly the type of professional others in her field should emulate. Dr. Kutas has built a first class staff. It was pain-free, and with very high quality results. This is the third crown he has installed for me over the years I've seen him - all great. I have a pre-existing fear of going to the dentist because of painful memories as a child. He and his staff have allowed me to work through those fears. Not only have I received outstanding dental care, I have come far to overcome a decades-old phobia of dentistry.

The waiting area is small, but we are usually the only ones in there, so it is never crowded, which tells me they do not overbook. That's a rare thing, anymore. The hygienist is incredibly gentle but thorough. I have very tender gums, and even though I make it a point to get regular cleanings (every 6 months, on the dot), I usually hate going because the hygienist tears up my mouth. Not here. I leave with my gums in tact, and my pearly whites sparking. And even though I am terrible at flossing, she never makes me feel guilty about it. I appreciate that, as I have been scolded in the past (totally unprofessional and embarrassing!) Dr. Hayes is a great guy. Very friendly and trustworthy, without an ounce of arrogance. My daughter had her braces off recently, and revealed two small cavities. He was quick to point them out on the scans, and got us in within two days to take care of them. His prices were very fair, and he did not try to "find" more issues. Yes- I have had that happen before... But not here. If you're new to the area, or just looking for a new dentist, try this place. It's hard to find a good dentist, and I'm so glad I found them!

I had orthodontic work and dentistry here as a child (over ten years ago). Maybe things have…read morechanged since then. But when I was eleven, Dr. Wiygul gave me fillings in the buccal pits of my four rearmost molars. Even though I'd never had a cavity in my life. Dentists I've consulted with since then agree that it was obviously wrong what he did. It's stupid and unnecessary to drill and fill a perfectly healthy tooth. What Dr. Wiygul didn't inform us of, is that composite fillings don't last anywhere near a lifetime. They aren't expected to last longer than about 5 years! You are left with a cycle of fillings that repeatedly fail and need to be replaced. Each time, the replacement filling typically must be a little bigger. This is obviously not good for the health of the tooth, especially since it is typical for decay to form behind a failed or "leaky" filling. The first of the four composite fillings finally failed this past year. In the long term, Dr. Wiygul's unnecessary procedure has created pain, hassle, distress, and monetary expense. I dread the process of replacing the other three of his stupid fillings, which are also likely to fail soon. I would almost certainly have a filling-free mouth today if it weren't for Dr. Wiygul. I often ask, why did he do this? Was it an intentional scam, or a deeply misguided belief that a drilled hole with a filling is better than a natural little ridge on the tooth of a young patient, who is not prone to decay and is diligent in dental hygiene? Dr. Wiygul claimed that the treatment was necessary because "food will get stuck there behind the bands of the braces." (Meaning, the metal band that goes around the teeth in some sets of braces.) This sounded sensible to us and we fell for it. But the orthodontic treatment--by his son next door--didn't even include bands! The only notable tooth decay I have ever had, occurred behind one of Dr. Wiygul's unnecessary fillings when it inevitably failed. Go instead to a dentist who respects the natural form of teeth and refrains from applying aggressive, unnecessary, and costly mutilations in the name of "prevention."

I left another dentist I had been seeing for years because he wanted to crown everything. I have…read morevery sensitive teeth and was not happy at all with the prospect of drilling down every tooth to a nub just so a crown can be fitted. SO I went to Dr Wiygul and am very happy with his work. He is very careful and very gentle and takes his time. The other dentists was always wam bam thank you mam. Not Dr Wiygul. I've already recommended him to my friends. And btw, I had to get 1 crown at Dr Wiygul, and it went very well indeed.

He had significant decay at this time but they let it escalate to the point of needing silver caps on three very visible teeth to the tune of almost $1,000, which they knew I would have to pay out of pocket bc my insurance doesn't cover this. When I questioned why I am having to pay for their gross neglect, they claimed that since they offered for us to get the required work over two visits instead of one, that they provided a "Treatment Plan." This level of incompetence is staggering. There are much better dentists out there who will actually do their job and provide quality care for your child's teeth. Sadly, this is not one of them.

He has always done great work, his staff is friendly and courteous, and what's important to all of us is....there's no pain! I used to dread going to *any* dentist, because I'd be afraid the shot of Lidocaine to numb up my mouth would hurt; or the Lidocaine wouldn't work well and I'd find myself wishing I had used nitrous gas (i.e., laughing gas) also; or I'd find myself wishing I'd pre-medicated myself with a Xanax or a pain pill! Well, that has NEVER happened at Dr. Hsia's office. The Lidocaine numbing shots are painless and effective, which makes even the most labor intensive procedure (a root canal) also painless. I highly recommend this dentist!

I had a lack of luck with the crown that he placed in my mouth. It was poorly-shaped and I ended up doing what I should have done in the first place and had a crown shaped using some high-tech gadgetry at a nice place in Germantown. Now, I'm pain-free.
