I am not joking when I say I was probably about the 20th person in line at the door. Of course not everyone was there for regular DLs, so "my line" was probably even shorter... right? WRONG! I had all of my documents in order and got my number/ticket within 5 mins of them opening the doors. It was not until over 3.5 hours later that my number was called. I was getting SO frustrated because I was missing work for this. Had I known it would take forever and a day I would have requested the time off work to get it done. They had like 23 booths but only 3 people working. And then they service people for Commercial DLs first it seems. And in this area, there are A LOT of those. And then I noticed the few people who WERE working took a 15 or so minute break and they hadn't even been open 4 hours yet. I was so extremely frustrated by the time I got out of there almost 5 hours after I first got there.

I went in for my appointment got there on time within 30 minutes and they denied me to take a test just because everyone wanted to go home by 5 PM. I was told if I got there within my timeframe of my appointment I would be able to take a test the woman there were laughing at me. It's like a game to them, they get a kick out of rejecting people like if they're gods or something. It's a pity that people are like this but on judgment day when God is near He will take those who help other not mocked them. What a shame of humanity these people can show you. I highly recommend stay away from this place evil lives within them and they enjoy it.

When you do eventually reach a worker they inevitably are ill-prepared to handle your request. I always seem to find the worker that is "in-training". Makes me wonder what they do with all the employees they have trained over the last few years. Don't even get me started on the number of signs hanging around the office telling customers that cell phones are not welcome. Guess what ladies, if you want my insurance card you are getting it via my cell phone. Get over it... Setting the level of incompetence aside there is the issue of the working hours. The office is only open from 8-4. When exactly are those of us that work for a living supposed to come up to get our vehicle plates or amend vehicle titles? This tax-assessor has managed to destroy any semblance of customer service. It is my sincere hope that she is replaced soon and this office can be brought into the 21st century.

We were in the parking lot at 7:15 as we have heard the horror stories of long waits and poor service. At 7:20 the lights came on inside and he proceeded to clean, sweep, and maybe mop the office. At 7:50, he turned off the lights and left. According to the note on the door...he could have slept in! Pretty bad way to run a state office, but maybe it's par for the course.

In addition to this Hobbs location, there are Village MVDs in Artesia and Ruidoso Downs. This particular place took over an old bank - they still have the tube canisters... minus the lollipops they'd send my mom over when they'd ask how many children were in her vehicle. Lol. There are two reasons why I knocked off a star: - they charge $22 cost recovery/registration renewal fee - they do NOT offer driver's licenses or IDs, handicap placards, driving records, or DOT physicals. Their bread and butter are the following: + Registrations + Titles + VIN Inspections I came here on 10/31/2023 which was the day my vehicle registration expired (lol) and was met with friendly, speedy service. Good to know I can get my new tags on the day that my old one expires without the wait or possible bad attitudes of my old MVD office. I was told my Jeep would be inspected only once. Not true. Then when I park it in the sun, the person who helped me couldn't see because of the glare. She was very indifferent and not friendly at all. I am grateful that they accepted me a few minutes after I checked in from the parking lot at 7:35AM because I had an asthma attack. I can't help it when it happens. Still, Irene at the checkin counter didn't seem to believe me. Cool way to start the day. The part that really didn't sit well with me was when I was told to go to the MVD to provide them with a fax number for my lienholder on 9/2/2022. I get there first thing in the morning and they had no sign on the door indicating that they would be closed. I was one of several people who walked to the door just to find it locked. It was not a state holiday. How else are patrons supposed to communicate with this inefficient state-ran office? We are at the mercy of their deadlines and are subject to penalty when they don't do what they plainly state that they will. Second major pitfall: my initial title transfer paperwork appointment was on August 2, 2022. A letter on behalf of this particular MVD was supposed to be faxed by them that same day - or so I was told. (I made notes of this during my appointment.) This required letter was not sent to my lienholder until August 23! If you want to torture yourself, this place is a sure bet.
