T & D gave the lowest estimate, by far: labor rates for the other auto places were above $124 per hour; T&D is a single mechanic operation and I had reliable work done at this location over a decade before. The owner was honest, did what he said he would do and was flexible and accommodating. The work was done well and quickly; the alternator, water pump, radiator fan and timing belt were all replaced. But they also repair just about anything. I bonded with most of the guys here because we were all truck drivers in the army. They always think its cool since I am a girl. Even without that fact they were always nice and never tried to get me to fix something that didn't need it. One time I came in and said "Jack, its leaking oil but I don't have any money yet, please don't let it cost too much". When I picked it up he said "I fixed the leak for now, just keep it topped off, but if you don't get a new tire you are going to die". How's that for honesty? My truck sucked and I was there often. They would drive me home, to work, or just give me one of their personal cars to drive. Jack let me haggle a little bit over cost, and would offer me a shot or a beer from his secret stash in the back to soften the blow. Once, after I practically dropped my paycheck to fix my ride he threw in a 6-pack of tall boys. That is service my friends. When I told them I was moving to Cali in my heap they were worried and checked it out for me. They did "just enough" work on it so I could make it there but told me to ditch the thing once I made it. I got to Cali with no problems. I only wish I had sold it sooner - it broke down within a few months and cost $700 just so I could then trade it in. Oh well. I brought my Volkswagen in without an appointment and explained the issue. They were swamped with vehicles but said they would give it a look when they got time. A few hours later they called and explained what they found (ground cable that was unable to complete a consistent ground) and they fixed it. Great service. They're were only two guys working there who were pretty friendly. And a big plus is one of them keeps his dog there that greeted me when I came in.
