They are an ideal stress-free way to see certain sights that you wouldn't necessarily see under your own steam. Trips I've participated in include visits to the Disney Concert Hall, Jeopardy live taping, America's Got Talent audition taping, Hollywood Bowl concert, Nasa's JPL, the Pasadena Rose Parade, John Wayne yacht tour and Camp Pendleton tour and museum. WELL ORGANIZED AND PROFESSIONAL Day Tripper Tours are always well organized with informative, friendly guides and professional bus drivers and clean, modern buses with foot rests. COMFORT STOPS They always incorporate a roughly 20-30 minute 'comfort' stop for the restroom and fast food options on the way there and back. There's a toilet on board the bus, but they really prefer you to use the restroom at the stops. They always hand out snacks and water on board. As with most tours, you're under their schedule, so sometimes things are slightly rushed, in other words, you don't get to linger on your own time. Pick-ups usually run on time, but sometimes traffic can delay things, which is out of their control. PICK-UP LOCATIONS We have used the pick-up locations in Rancho Bernardo, Carlsbad and La Jolla. I wish they picked-up at Rancho Bernardo more often as that's the most convenient for me. Most patrons are seniors, but I've been using them since my early 40s. It's fun to chat with your bus companions, especially if you're joining the tour solo. I have taken less tours in recent years as their prices have gone up to typically around the $150 mark, but when I do take them, I enjoy them. If you get their e-mails, watch for discounts when they're trying to fill a tour. Tips to the guide and driver are also suggested and envelopes are provided. You can either browse their printed catalog by mail or take a look at their tours on-line. One thing to note is there are no refunds if you cancel due to illness, etc., although they do offer trip insurance, but I've never purchased it. If they happen to cancel the tour, you get a refund. They also offer gift certificates, which makes a nice gift for someone that enjoys their tours. I recommend Day Tripper Tours for fun days out, either solo or with a friend.

In all three cases, we made the bookings over the phone with friendly people, who made good comments and recommendations. Have received discounts for "early bookings." On Saturday, July 18, we received their email about a Las Vegas trip in October, and we dialed them immediately to make another early booking; but they were closed, so left a voice mail for a return call on Monday, July 20. On Monday, as usual, we requested the early booking discount. This predictable and routine request was denied, even though they still had seats to sell; they said they hit their limit of 20 people for the discount (but how do we know that?) I terminated the call without a booking. Shortly after the unsuccessful phone call, my wife went online to make the booking. $50 discounts were offered online, which my wife accepted. But by the time my wife was at checkout, these discounts had suddenly disappeared. Friends signed up because of a suggestion from me. Very surprised by this harsh, disreputable service.

I was lassoed into the event through Girl Scouts (we were able to buy"discounted" tickets but apparently everyone gets the same discounted price ) $14 for adults and $1 for kids.. If you wanted the buy the festival pass it was a substantial increase. Keep in mind that the 5k bouncer run is a cheap side attraction, and the festival is probably where your kids will gravitate towards. Though, both experiences combined don't justify the price. Issue 1- long lines. Luckily the San Diego event wasn't as bad as other cities where the reported wait time was 45 minutes per bouncer. Today the wait was anywhere from walking on ( the first little kids inflatable) to an hour wait for the last tall climb and slide.. The other two inflatables were anywhere from 15 - 25 minutes. The main reason for the long lines was because of issue number 2. Issue 2 - Only 4 bouncer stations. This event claims to be a 5k bouncer obstacle course where there would be a bouncer every 500 feet. It was actually around 1200 feet meaning they had half the obstacle stations as advertised. What a ripoff. Issue 3 - Crappy unsafe bouncers. Not only did they cut costs by only having a few bouncers, what they did have were very old, torn up, and unsafe (see pictures). Looking at other review pictures on Yelp, it's clear that broken bouncers are nothing new and never repaired. At one point a concerned volunteer was so upset that small kids were falling off the broken large rope climbing bouncer that she physically blocked the entrance for safety. Also, this event claims that all bouncer are open to all age groups "we are also the ONLY obstacle race in the United States without any age, height or weight restrictions, so nobody is left out of the fun!" That's not true. On the last bouncer of the track "no adults are allowed". And to be honest, little kids shouldn't have been allowed on the tall rope climber. Seriously, the hour long wait was because 4 year olds kept trying to climb a 15 foot rope but just kept falling down over and over. Staff didn't tell those climbing challenged toddlers to use the kid sized climber instead. That leads to issue 4. Issue 4 - This event was entirely staffed by young volunteers. Not really an issue, but there were no people identified as official organizers or paid staff of this event. Absolutely no visible security. The volunteers were pretty good but had no authority to do anything. If there was a serious accident or emergency I'd have no confidence that these kid volunteers would have known what to do. Issue 5 - They really sell themselves as a charitable event. But look deeper. There are actually two different events going on here, one is the charitable 5k, and the other is the for-profit festival. It's import to know why they only charge $1 for the 5k, and charge $20 for the festival. They really aren't as charitable as they claim to be. Issues 6 - They claim a perfect Yelp Score, but clearly that's a lie based on all the 1 star reviews. In summation, this is a poorly run event with very few 5k bouncers that are not maintained and half were broken. The negative reviews are spot on. Tips - They don't tell you this, but you don't have to pay the huge fee for the festival pass. You CAN buy individual tickets ( like a carnival) and ride something that looks fun. There are better family-friendly event out there. The color run was pretty good.

The course looks easy from a distance but when you start doing it you will struggle a big. They're are about 8 big inflatables and you will wonder why there aren't more, but when you start going over them you will actually wish there were less. Kids as little as three were going over the obstacles with help. It's a lot of fun especially in groups you can race each other. But be prepared to be exhausted for a few days after. I enjoyed myself and would go again.

We started in Seaport Village and the tour guide was very professional and knowledgeable about the different sights we came too. I'm local and learned things about San Diego that I didn't know. This is a tough one to rate - because the facility (bus) was great and the bus driver was very knowledgable and very nice. The lunch (included in the tour price) in Ensenada was very, very nice. The restaurant was lovely and the food and drinks were terrific. However, I am afraid that we could not recommend the tour. The roads are not well maintained and the cities of Rosarito, Tijuana, and Ensenada were, for the most part, depressing. When we were south of Rosarito on our way to Ensenada, the bus was pulled over by the Federalies - and detained about a half hour - not fun. Certainly glad we were on Gray Line for the tour - but, we won't be going back to Mexico any time soon.

I went on a Saturday in September and had such a blast! This was a reasonable price for what we got, which was a fantastic tour guide, a fabulous lunch and one free margarita (and of course you can't just stop at one, but it was nice of them to pick up one from our tab) The 10 hour tour was filled with a scenic tour down the coast and perfect stops for that picture-perfect opportunity. After all of the news surrounding Mexico being dangerous, I've never felt safer being with the Gray line staff. I want everyone I know to go on another tour with me with Gray line SD. They have a Hollywood tour and that's definitely next on the list.
