The shop/space in Madison houses about 10 or so artisans who work tirelessly honing their skills. One One Thousand offers various classes to the public where these artisans teach others their craft. From quilting to wood carving there is a class that could interest just about anyone. These creative workshops are the center of what One One Thousand is all about. The concept of such self motivated craftsmanship is a rarity these days. In a world of big box stores ruling the world, or at least America, getting back to the roots of doing it yourself is a breathe of fresh air. The space is big and bright and there is so much to look at around every corner. All the goods are displayed and available for purchase in the space as well. The variety of merchandise One One Thousand has to offer is phenomenal and the quality of craftsmanship is second to none. Whenever we are in Madison it's a must to stop by and see what's going on there.

There are no delicious fibers here for the tactilely-inclined. If you want cotton or acrylic, why not spend a lot less at Michael's or the WI Craft Market? If you're like me, you might answer, "To support local business owners, of course!" And therein lies the problem. The owner of Off the Beaten Path has actually expressed her disapproval of LGBTQ folks patronizing her shop, using it as a meeting space for knitting, or otherwise flaunting their gayness anywhere near her. What kind of an attitude is that to have in the Willy St. neighborhood, which welcomes ALL people? I would never support a business that promotes such disgraceful intolerance, and I hope you wouldn't, either.

In the basement floor of Memorial Union, there are 3 artist spaces that make up "wheelhouse studios" for people to use and make crafts. I've used the pottery studio and it is a great way to relax and make beautiful projects. You can buy and store clay, but then all the supplies and tools are FREE to use, including have projects fired in the kiln. Make sure you clean your spaces afterwards for the next artist, but go use Wheelhouse if you can!

Tried taking a photography class. Last week with bad weather (even clinics closed so shouldn't be…read moreon roads) wasn't able to get to class. Asked for the information so that I could catch up, 5 days later still waiting to hear anything. Found out today that I will be on jury duty for class two. Asked to be deferred to another class. Was told NO we are too far into the class. Really 1/3 of the class happened and really shouldn't have because of weather. So asked for the handout so I would get something for my money. Was told we don't have anything like that. Again, really nothing for me to make notes on during class. Nothing handed out. REALLY should be a refund. It doesn't sound like the class is very well organized.

We were half-way through our entrees when I had to ask about it. The staff didn't seem to be particularly concerned that we had our entrees half eaten and had to ask about our small plate. It finally came, by which point we didn't really want it. We left and went to Sardine for a glass of wine where the service and food are unfailingly top notch. I'm not saying I won't go back, but it is no longer on my 'go-to' list because it has now become unpredictable. It's too expensive for that.

Everyone at Burnie's was OUTSTANDING in their communication. Story? I bought a set of 3 rings at my yoga studio that was going out of business during COVID. I wore 2 of the rings "stacked" and they were a staple for me. I had lost one of the dendrite agates and was devastated. Rae was so cool, let me mail in my other ring to match up and by George, we tried to find something in inventory - but there wasn't a clear match. I spent many a sleepless night looking at dendrite opal agates on ETSY and finally found one after much back and forth with the shop. I sent it to Burnie's and they did EXACTLY what I was looking for. TO MATCH THE OTHER RING. Honestly? I couldn't be happier. They were reasonably priced. Cut the stone exactly as I wanted it to be cut. Honestly, like a miracle how it all came out. I just looked at the number of emails back and forth, there were 38 many with photos of yeas or nays. Then the communication about the agate I needed to buy and it's characteristics and size. Anybody hoping for something spot on that can do their part to get what they want will not be disappointed. I am hoping to show what I got if I can with a photo. SO SO SO HAPPY!
