Cute indoor activity! I loved the glazes and the pottery options, but the service needed a little work. Went here on a Saturday afternoon, and I was told it was an hour to hour and a half wait. That was fine with me. I spent an hour in the area and then I called to ask how much more time is left (not to be impatient, but to see what things I could do while waiting) and I was told it would be another 45 minutes. I started doing something else, and 10 minutes later, I was told it was my turn... that was really unfortunate. When I got there, the staff was super nice and helpful! However, I noticed that I wasn't given all the info other customers were getting. They were told about things like the tools to make textures and what not, but I didn't hear about it until halfway through I was done glazing. I wish there better communication. A great spot though for a calming indoor activity. read more

Went on a date with my girlfriend for their 60 minute pottery class. The front desk staff and teachers were all very friendly. Our pottery instructor was very patient and fun to work with. While I admit I struggled with using the pottery wheel and the techniques, our pottery instructor was very encouraging and helped at times to prevent my "bowl" from becoming an utter disaster. I loved how Disney music was being played in the background -- truly made my time "magical". I am a die-hard Harry Potter fan, so when I saw the Wizard Night event on Facebook, I immediately signed up. Blank pottery pieces line the walls, and there are many paint colors to choose from. I opted for a sorting hat votive candle holder, and my husband (the muggle) chose a little bulldozer to paint for our son. There were themed snacks and butterbeer, giveaways, and photo props with a Platform 9 3/4 backdrop. They really went all out! What a great place to relax during a blizzard! A friend and I decided to check it out on a snowy afternoon and they have a great selection of pottery to paint, from small ornaments or figurines to large plates and bowls. The owner and her staff were incredibly patient and helpful, walking us through the step by step process to ensure we felt confident with the projects we chose. I painted a large coffee mug for $28 (painting supplies, instruction, clear glaze, and firing included) and we were there for a couple hours, just chatting and painting. It was so fun and relaxing! (It actually cured my hangover.) You can also create your own clay pieces, have a painting party in their Party Room, take a class to learn to throw clay on the wheel (I think that's how you say it), or make glass art -and there are many beautiful examples to inspire you. As we drove home we chatted about how excited we are to see our fired pieces in a week as well as how much we look forward to doing it again! read more

Came here with a friend and it was a great time! Pieces might seem overpriced at first but, you get to customize it however you want. We decided to paint a clay over-sized coffee mug and ramen bowl and spoon. The employees there were very helpful and gave insight on how to best paint our bowls. They also showed us how they make the pottery prior to giving it to us which was super cool. This is a great place for dates or a group event! I went here a few weeks ago kind of on whim with two other people. When we got there, it was crowded. So crowded that I was afraid they might turn us away or make us wait until a table opened up. But I was wrong, they were very accommodating and made room without hesitation! All of the staff was great while we were painting and designing our pieces (two of us made mugs, the other made a spoon rest) and when I went back to pick up our finished pieces. I was also pretty impressed with the variety of glazes they had and the variety of painting utensils that were available. Fired Up Pottery is a really nice and calming place to paint pottery. When you enter, an employee is there to greet you and answer any questions you might have. There are several shelves full of unpainted pottery pieces, with their prices clearly written on a label. The products are perfectly priced, and range from around $13 to over $100. You take a seat at a table, and there are many colors to choose from on a nearby shelf. There are paintbrushes of different widths. Their employees are very kind and there is a relaxing atmosphere. Once you are done, they take it and put it in the kiln. I only had to wait a day or two for my pieces to be ready (though that might have been luck). I really loved the way they looked afterward!! Fired up is a terrific place to let your creative juices flow. Several options for crafting here: painting pottery, making your own clay creations, either sculpted or on the wheel, or trying your hand at fused glass. The popularity of this shop is the only drawback right now- it can get crowded easily. They are planning to move into a larger space in Madison soon, which should alleviate the space issue, and will open up more options for parties and classes. This is one of my favorite places to take my daughter- I definitely recommend it for anyone who loves to create! read more

So fun! If you look at is as paying for the experience, it is totally worth it! I paid $16 for a coffee mug but spent an hour and a half customizing it with a friend. They have a ton of options for paints and give a lot of suggestions for techniques. I am not a creative person, let alone a painter...but it was a great time! Of course, this place is perfect for kids so there were some kids there that happened to be a bit annoying but the girl working did her best to make them happy and make the experience for everyone enjoyable. Kim and her staff are so accommodating! They were extremely easy to work with for our fundraiser, even bringing all the materials to our location. With Fired Up's generous donation, we were able to make almost $300 in a quick two hours with a unique glass fusing workshop offered at our church. All participants, ranging in age from 6 years old to adults, had a great time doing their glass fusing projects. All of the glass art turned out wonderfully with many participants wanting to do more. read more

I'm surprised there aren't more reviews for this place. My boyfriend and I did the "private 90 minute wheel class for two", and it was exactly as described on the website. Alex was our instructor, and he was a great teacher and made sure our pieces came out decent despite the fact that we were first-timers. For this reason, it's definitely worth it to do the private lesson. The class is long enough to make two pieces. Also we had to postpone our originally scheduled class due to car trouble- I called literally 10 min before we were supposed to be there- and they were incredibly understanding and flexible on rescheduling. We've been here a couple of times and there is one thing that I have found to be a consistent issue: it is HARD to get any real help. I've taken my kids to make projects for my wife and each time, we didn't receive any instruction or any assistance with what we were supposed to do. These may be no-brainers for people that go there on a regular basis, but when you don't know the protocol and don't know the first thing about working with pottery, a little help would be nice. Eventually, an employee came over and helped us get started, but from there we were again on our own to figure things out. Things went fine for a while, but when we tried writing messages on the pottery, I was clueless. An employee offered to come over and help, which I readily agreed to, but then she disappeared and never checked back in. I could understand if it was busy . . . but it wasn't. We were three of the roughly six other customers in there at the time. When I tried to do it myself, the writing smeared all over the place because I was not aware there were specific paints to use. After a while, an employee came over to help and fixed the problem, but all this took quite some time while I was trying to manage kids whose patience was running thin. The other issue I had . . . when we purchased our products to work on, the employee asked when I would need them. I said we just needed them by Mother's Day. I was told at this time that they would be ready by the Saturday before the holiday, which was fine by me, but that if I wanted them any sooner I would have to pay a 20% upcharge. I declined at the time, as I didn't need it any earlier, but I also felt that a 20% extra charge on top of any already pricey product ($56 for two coffee mugs!) was a bit much. And guess what happened anyway? They sent me a text on the Wednesday of that week to say the products were done. So I got them four days before they were promised and saved more than $11 from not paying the additional charge. I get how it works . . . that you're only "guaranteed" a spot in the kiln early if you pay that fee . . . but that to me seems like a real rip-off. You be the judge if you think that is fair or worth the cost. All in all, I would probably go back if I really wanted something unique as a kids' gift to a grandparent or parent. But if I could find something as an alternative, I would take it based on my handful of experiences at Fired Up. It appears that many other people have had positive experiences there, so maybe it is my inexperience with pottery that contributed to the bad vibes. But if you're a dad trying to take kids there to do something and don't know what you're doing, make sure you ask for help early and often, or else you'll probably feel lost and frustrated throughout the ordeal. read more

Great place to walk in and make art! Great choices, you set your budget with many choices, andvthey hsve a nice rewards program to boot! Our Girl Scout Troop came here for our Brownie Potter badge, and had such a great time. Kim gave clear, straightforward instructions and helped them as needed, had easy to use tools, great step by step routine including responsible clean-up. Plus, she offered the flexibility to schedule when it worked for us, and offered us the option of doing the painting and glazing steps on our own if it wasn't convenient for the whole troop to return simultaneously.
