I was really taken aback by the fact that, once I accepted a telehealth appointment with a nurse practitioner, I was expected to discuss all of my symptoms and treatment options using the receptionist's phone--in full earshot of everyone in the waiting room (though there were only a couple people; one was a minor). I question the legality of practicing medicine in this manner, ie, who is supervising the clinic if no doctors are on site? Are nurse practitioners in Illinois licensed to provide care and prescribe without direct supervision? Furthermore, while the nurse practitioner I spoke with was as kind as can be, their medical advice wasn't helpful. For an unknown respiratory issue I described, they prescribed over-the-counter meds including a sleep aid (although they knew I already had an Rx sleep aid from my own doctor), and a common motion sickness remedy (although they knew I already had an Rx anti-nausea med from my own doctor). They also prescribed a cough suppressant that was just plain ineffective. I don't doubt their intentions, but when I was able to see my own doctor days later, he was frustrated that they didn't prescribe any antibiotics (not knowing whether my infection was viral or bacterial), and at the OTC choices I was given. Moreover, he immediately ordered a chest x-ray, which found that I had already progressed to acute pneumonia. I would return to this urgent care only if--like the day I went there--I had no other choice. And that would be silly, considering there's a reputable hospital right across the street.

Before my appointment, I was sent a plethora of pages to fill out as requested and brought them the morning of my appointment. I, like many people, read the fine print. Upon entering, I had to have a photo taken to load internally to help prevent fraud, which I kindly declined. If you have a credit on your account of $5 or less they expect you to write it off. I wrote, "I want any amount refunded". I also had to submit a credit card to keep on file. "Who in their right mind gives anyone a blank check to charge at any time?". I put a line through that and initialed it. Christy handed me another copy of that page and told me I could not write anything in, that I just had to initial it. She was insistent I initial the Workman's Compensation Form. I declined. She said, "Everyone has to initial it". I'm 70 years old, tell me why. The last straw was when I had to give my SS#. Again I was told, everyone gives their SS#. Christy said it was very secure and I'm thinking, computers are hacked every day. I said "I will leave before giving that information", and Christy's response was "Well, it will probably come to that". I wonder how many people don't read the fine print and don't realize what freewill they give businesses. As someone who has been a victim of credit card fraud more than once and identity theft, there are some things that need protection. Dr. Bell may be a very nice man, I wouldn't know as I couldn't get past the office staff. I have never in my 70 years had to have a mug shot taken upon entering a physician's office. I got the feeling the office staff was more concerned about getting their money than caring for people. First impressions are lasting.

After my appendectomy, I was discharged despite having clear signs that I was not well enough to do so. My hgb dropped after surgery to a 7.7 AFTER a blood transfusion. My blood pressure which is normally high was at 111 (very low) for me. And the medical team believed those were safe signs for me to be discharged. 6 hours later my heart rate is at 120+ while at rest for many hours and my hgb dropped to 6.3 when I had to painfully return to the ER and wait 5-6 hours to be finally brought to the ICU. There I was given two more blood transfusions and doctors said they saw "a little blood in my abdomen that is totally normal after this type of surgery" I don't believe it was a small amount of blood for ALL of this to happen to me. Looking back, it is terrifying to think about what could have happened to me if I had waited longer to seek help. What was most upsetting was feeling dismissed when I was clearly experiencing symptoms that suggested something was wrong. As a patient, I trusted the medical team to recognize potential complications and keep me safe. The physical recovery has been difficult, but the emotional impact has been just as significant. I now have serious anxiety about seeking medical care because of this experience. I lost confidence in the hospital's judgment and in the way my health concerns were handled. I am sharing this review so that others can be aware of my experience and so the hospital can take a hard look at how postoperative patients are evaluated before discharge. No patient should leave feeling unheard or find themselves back in the hospital facing a potentially life-threatening complication shortly after being told they were well enough to go home. Unfortunately, because of what happened, I do not feel comfortable returning to this hospital in the future.

When I asked the receptionist about why we had to reschedule, her answer "The doctor said to have you fill out paperwork and reschedule" so they knew we'd have to be rescheduled even getting there 30mins early. Sounds fishy to me.. I am also confused as to why we weren't given the paperwork to take home to fill out knowing the doctor already wanted to reschedule. What a waste of time. We also witnessed a patient come in after we'd been there for awhile that was also given paperwork to fill out, the nurse called him back within a couple mins of him arriving and told him he could fill his paperwork out in the room. I work in the medical field and we would never send someone home because of paperwork. My mother and I both took off of work and drove 40mins. In a sense it's good to know that there is no care at this office to begin with. we are GLADLY going elsewhere.

This Doctor is a joke to medical professionals everywhere. To start, if you give him a bad review,…read morehe is quick to reply in a super snarky and inappropriate manner, telling you why your review is wrong in his eyes. I "liked" a comment someone had left reviewing him on Facebook at the beginning of seeing him, and at my next appointment, he called me into his office, showed me where I had liked a bad rating someone else had left, and asked me to "unlike" it. Who does that? He never keeps appointment times and feels it's appropriate to call you for your 1 pm telehealth appointment at 7 pm at night hoping you won't answer so he can mark you down as a "no show." I've also never had a doctor charge a $10 "convenience fee" when you call in to have your medications refilled. When I finally found a GYN to diagnose me after years of being miserable and getting me the surgery I needed that ended up saving my life, Dr. Hong got mad at me and accused me of "going to other doctors and having surgeries behind his back." Did I mention he's the one who recommended to the GYN who got me help in the first place? I had endometriosis so severely it was taking over my body, causing all of my issues. Don't even bother getting the office to fax any type of medical records anywhere in a timely manner, if even at all. They also love to tell you they "never got the fax" when I have other specialists send him records. I finally had to start bringing in hard copies of my records for him to even acknowledge they existed. He has ZERO bedside manner and no regard for his patients feelings at all. If you tell him you don't want to take the high dosages of pills he loves prescribing you for everything, and you are taking a smaller dosage instead, he accuses you of being a drug abuser. In my over 5 years of abuse from him, I was never actually examined in an actual examination room. All appointments were held in his personal office, where he barely used a stethoscope to examine you! It was always "what do you want now" instead of what can we try next. I stayed with him for so long because some days, he would be helpful, and I would just brush off his bad attitude on a bad day. When he couldn't diagnose me himself...I became a patient not worth his time. He wasn't even going to tell me he kicked me out of his office. I called to check on medications, and his wife answered the phone with, "Dr. Hong wants you to find a new doctor, have a nice day!" *click* No explanation. No warning. Just putting a chronically ill patient on my own.
