Probably a great service for modern speakers... but i would definitely not reccomend for vintage speakers. I sent them my JBL LE14 speakers and I received them back with a huge dent in the original paper dustcap. They were poorly packed... almost no packing on bottom so that the actual frame of the speaker was banging whenever this package was moved, and also they didn't ship them face to face. It was really a let down. I contacted them and the solution they offered was to mail me two modern dustcaps and have me try and replace them myself. The issue is that replacing the dustcaps creates the same issue as a dented dustcap... probably a 20% reduction in value of these woofers. Also it don't feel comfortable trying to cut out the old caps and glue in new ones on white cone JBLs...thats I spent $200 sending them to professionals. read more

Went in for a speaker repair and they said it would be looked at in two weeks. They called me within 2 weeks and said my woofer couldn't be fixed but just my luck they had a good used one that I could replace it with. They installed the new one at a fair price and picked it up the next day. I would definitely go back to these guys if I need to. Good service. read more

Used to go here all the time until they sold me a bad speaker, it was used and so it happens. I took it back and the guy got pissy with me, said it's impossible for it to be bad as they are all tested, and tested it in front of me. It sounded terrible! So then he got frustrated and said that's just their testing tone generator, has bad pots, the speaker is actually fine - and what is really the problem is my "cheap amplifier!" They did give me money back, but I feel bad for whoever got that speaker next. Bought a speaker online, plugged it into my amp, problem vanished...as expected. 0/10 on customer service. read more

I have an Infinity Video 1 Center channel that I purchased in 1990. I used it regularly until maybe 2004. Then it went into storage. I let my son use it for a couple years then back in storage. I decided to inspect them and saw the foam was completely torn. I had also replaced the tweeter with a larger size that didn't fit. I decided to repair this speaker. I live in California and gave up on figuring it out myself. I ran across Midwest Speaker Repair on a google search. I measured the foam size and then sent pics in and someone sent me a link of what I needed and gave me advice on the repair. I completed the repair today! My recommendation for cleaning old glue is acetone. They send you written instructions and glue. Many how tos are on you tube if you need them. The professional advice from this company is superb! I just emailed them yesterday about what sizes tweeter would fit and received a response on Saturday with link. I made tweeter purchase today. This is a one of a kind business. They made the experience of shipping my woofers for reconing easy and worry free. The woofers I sent to be repaired are no longer made, so it was very important that they be repaired correctly. MSR did an excellent job and had them back to me in a reasonable time. The woofers I had repaired are used in JBL LX-55s. This is one of those great places that seem to be disappearing. Thankfully Midwest is doing well! I have had them do multiple speaker sets over the years and have always been impressed. Pretty quick turn around even considering covid delays. This is an old school hands on shop. AMAZING ON ALL FRONTS ! Audio technology peaked awhile back. The era of large speakers is all but over. But, there is no replacing the visual and aural effect of a classic pair of big floorstanders. Want to breath new life into your 'mature' speakers? TAKE THEM HERE. Flashback to 2003: I get a pair of 197X speakers for free from a family member. Gorgeous cabinets, totally fried midrange and tweeter. A friend and I head to MW Speaker, get new parts for a really good price, and install new mids n highs in my basement. Speakers sound GREAT. The guys did an awesome job in terms of guiding me towards the right part (as opposed to the most expensive part), helping answer my n00b speaker repair questions, and ensuring I understood what I was getting myself into if I was going to try and fix it at home. Boomerang back to 2014: NYE party happens, drunk idiots turn the music up too loud, blow out a tweeter. Looking all over online, I figure out this tweeter is no longer made, and I can't find it. I keep searching, entering part # on the back of the broken unit....I come up with one place that has it in stock. SAME PLACE I GOT IT FROM 11 YEARS AGO! By now I'm in Chicago so I order online. Part ships the next day, and in the meantime, I have a very nice email exchange with MW Speaker. They advise me to get another tweeter since indeed, this type is no longer made. Advice is still honest. Price is still unbeatable. All questions are still answered. I live in Chicago now, and out of a city of ~4 million, and metro area of ~9 million, there is 1 place in town that will repair things the way these guys will. MSP is lucky beyond words to have these guys around!! read more

These guys did a great job repairing my woofer rubber which was decayed, and did it quickly, for a good price, and with a smile. Highly recommended if you need any work done on your speakers. I usually don't have time (or don't take the time to write reviews), but the service I received from Mid West speakers deserved a 5 min interruption of my busy life. They repaired the 2 woofers of my beloved Dahlquist DQ20i. Their quality of craftmanship was first class, their packaging was excellent, they did it quickly with kindness and at a reasonable price. Midwest Speaker is outstanding! These guys are great. I trust them with really rare items...and everything else. 1) My first experience, I was referred to them. I brought them a super rare 1936 18" Jensen Super Giant field coil speaker made for McMurdo. It needed cone repairs. I have to admit, I was nervous when I left it with them. They did a fantastic job! 2) I purchased a 1937 radio that had a 1937 15" E.H. Scott (Magnavox) field coil speaker that they had re-coned. Again, great work! 3) More recently, I brought in a pair of 1990s Pioneer speakers I was having repaired because I was giving my old rack system to my daughter. They talked me out of spending money on repairs and sold me an inexpensive pair of JVC speakers. They were cheap but they sound great. Plus, I saved another 20% because they happened to be a sale. Repaired my Definitive Technology subwoofer speaker after I had a bit too much fun. Sound just like new. For under $40, everything is now perfect. They didn't just patch the broken surround, they replaced the cone, surround and dust cap. Also purchased used speakers from them. They are more than happy to let you listen to your own music. Can't say enough about this place: great work, very reasonable price, speedy, and good communication. I brought in a floorstanding Wharfedale with a dead tweeter and they replaced it well within a week for around 60 bucks. Not being an audiophile I just wanted them to bring it back to life and they did, quickly, and for a good price. If I hadn't found this place I would have been freecycling the pair.
