My husband ordered the Chili the Kid Tacos. The meat he chose was chicken. He stated it had a little spice with a sweet aftertaste. This he loved! The chicken was tender and full of guacamole, pickled onions and salsa. He also ordered Spanish rice and beans to make his meal complete. Everything was prepared well. Customer service was great. My wife, some friends, and I stopped in for a late lunch today. We were originally looking for barbecue spots, but most places nearby were either closed on Mondays or had limited hours. Medwood popped up on my Yelp feed as a solid option, so we decided to check it out. The Western-themed decor features plenty of dark wood and dim lighting, which created a great vibe. As for the food, the barbecue was good--tender and not too dry or tough. I went with the half rack of ribs while my wife got the pulled chicken plate. Service was attentive, and our dishes came out quickly. The menu looked great and the photos online highlighting the food and the establishment looked promising; still rustic but with a modern twist. The table enjoyed the Miguel's Queso. I'm pretty sure the kids licked the bowl clean. Kids Chicken Nuggets - 6 crispy nuggets with a side of choice. Thick breading but good portion and taste. Crinkle fries were a bit hit for this little one. Enjoyed the fries with ranch. Lone Star Brisket Sandwich - Smoked brisket, house-made pickles, and slaw. Brisket looked delicious but was a bit dry and lacked seasoning. The pickles, slaw, and BBQ sauce delivered the moisture and flavor. Smoked Half Chicken - Smaller chicken quarter but tender and moist. Still lacking flavor counting on the BBQ sauce. Had the mac-and-cheese and fries as a side. Mac was cheesy but again dry. Saint Louis Pork Ribs - Good portion but again on the flavor - heavily reliant on the sauce. Sweet tea was perfect and the pickles were delicious! Service wasn't the best; refills were hard to get. I ordered a platter of 4 meats (ribs, pork, sausage, and brisket) and 2 sides (mac and fries). The food came almost immediately, and that somewhat concerned me. The mac was frozen cold, and pieces of the brisket were also cold. Was this platter sitting waiting for someone to order? I don't know, all I know is that the food was stone cold. I returned the mac but kept the brisket. The fries were also not cooked well, it was all a bit embarrassing. I got some hush puppies that were hard, I really wondered if I was the unlucky person or everyone here is delusional and they don't know about BBQ. Came to Midwood with Jordan and the kids to try out their BBQ, and overall it was a solid experience with a few hits and misses. I ordered the ribs, and they were good, but not the best I've ever had. I'd definitely recommend getting them "naked" if you're not into spicy food, the sauce had me sweating. The meat itself was decent, maybe just a little overcooked for my taste. Jordan got the smoked chicken, and I tried some, honestly, it felt like it was missing a bit of flavor and was slightly on the dry side. Olivia had the chicken fingers, which were exactly what you'd expect, simple and good, can't really go wrong there. Joel got the brisket sandwich, and it reminded me a lot of the ribs in terms of flavor and texture. Overall, it's a good spot if you're craving BBQ, just not a standout for me. HOWEVER, we are visiting West Columbia and went with close friends to dinner tonight. The service was great; the ambiance was very nice; but the food AMAZING! Our server was very helpful when she recommended the PIGOUT. It basically was a large platter with an assortment of smoked meats. We were able to choose 4 out of 5 choices. We chose pork ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork and smoked shredded chicken. It came with hush puppies and homemade pickles. We chose bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers and Cole slaw as our sides. Wife got the brisket plate large and I got the We'll Fed with a full rack of ribs and Brisket. Way more than either of us could eat but all was smoked (cooked) to perfection. Very delicious and hit the spot. The were busy for Thursday night when we arrived about 6:15pm. We were seated right away and again, Liam was an excellent server. We are here twice in 2 days. First night I had the hall rack of ribs and my wife had the bbq chicken. Both were excellent. The 2nd night we both had the bbq glazed salmon. Except I requested mine medium rare and she requested medium. Both were done perfectly!!! I have been to many fish restaurants that don't get it right and over cook my fish. Totally blown away that a restaurant where most people come to get meat, cooked both of our salmons to perfection! Thank you Midwood Smokehouse for a very enjoyable 2 nights. ( Come on refill the waters please) First bite of a mini slider a bone from the chicken not a good start. The baked beans were not to my liking and the burnt ends although flavorful were very fatty . Let me preface by saying I used to be at Midwood every weekend and knew many of the servers very well. We stopped going regularly when there were constant issues with food quality. Then I ordered takeout and ended up having a shredded bamboo toothpick scattered through my my food. I decided to give it a long break for a long while before giving them another try. HUGE mistake. I ordered a simple Midwood salad and wings. How bad can it be? Horrible. $30 of completely inedible food that went straight into the garbage. The salad was so wilted it seemed like it had been left under a heat lamp. It wasn't even cool. The wings were completely dry and more reminiscent of cardboard. Three of the 12 wings must have come from Carolina Wrens they were so teeny tiny. I've attached a picture of one of them that was only slightly bigger than my pinky finger. How food can go through multiple quality checks and still be put out when it is so substandard is ridiculous. I'm done with Midwood. Midwood Smokehouse was pretty good. Now, let me preface by saying that I do not eat BBQ, but accompanied a friend who's a big BBQ fan. We sat at the bar, which was alright. I was kind of disappointed in their selection of drinks, as they didn't have any seltzers, and lacked a good array of cocktails. I got the chicken tenders and fries, which I must say were pretty good. Both the tenders and fries were crispy and of higher-quality than most other tenders and fries I've gotten. I wasn't really able to get my friend's opinion on his food, but I'm assuming it was pretty good, seeing as he gobbled it up in about five (5) minutes. Lol. Overall, Midwood was pretty good, and I'll give it a respectable 4 stars. I don't know if I'll be back, but that's largely because I don't eat BBQ, and not really anything that they did. read more

Wanted to try some South Carolina BBQ on our quick trip here, so stopped by for lunch after visiting Congaree National Park. It's totally true what they say - every area has their own unique spin on BBQ, and South Carolina was no different. Their combo platter is perfect for trying a sampling of their various BBQ. We tried their brisket, pork, and chicken - all were tender and tasty. The best choice, though, was to add on their brisket burnt ends - it's already the best part of the brisket, and a plate full of just that? Delicious. Their sides were good - nothing incredible, but solid compliments to the meat. Our server was super kind and efficient. It came with home made pickles also. My husband ordered birriabbque ( sorry probably misspelled . ). We got the nacho appetizer and finished off w the pecan cobbler. The brisket mix was superb! Some fatty pieces and some more solid but tender ones. Delicious! The sides were super tasty as well! I'm picky about cole slaw and theirs passed the test. Just the right mix of tangy & sweet! Baked beans were great too! The tacos came with dipping sauce and collards for the side. The tacos were crispy, meaty and tasty. The dipping sauce was delightful and the collards were cooked to perfection! We finished w the pecan cobbler and it also did not disappoint. Our server CV ( again w the spelling I'm definitely sorry ) was awesome. He paid us just the right amount of attention without being intrusive. I overlooked the beer list on the back of the menu and when asked what was on tap he recited the entire thing without so much as blinking an eye. Again, he was great and is a true asset to this eatery. All in all I'm happy we decided to give this place a shot. I'll definitely be back! One of the best meals I've had in Columbia! We visited Midwood Smokehouse on a Friday evening, and had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated as a party of 4. This wasn't surprising since they always look busy! The interior had dim lighting, wooden furniture, and lots of antique decor on the walls. Our server gave us helpful recommendations and proactively communicated kitchen wait times. For drinks, I got an unsweetened Iced Tea, but they had beer, wine, and cocktails on the menu. We ordered the Pimento Cheese Fries with Brisket for the table, which came out pretty quickly. I don't usually love crinkle cut fries, but this appetizer was awesome! The brisket was so flavorful and soft, and went great with the pimento cheese. The portion size was also massive, so we only finished about half. For my entree, I got the Chopped Brisket Sandwich. Again, the brisket was super tender and flavorful. It went great on Texas toast with the cheddar cheese our server recommended. I chose Mac & Cheese as my side, which was pretty good. Craving a good burger and remembered someone else said that they had great burgers here. Went in at 5 pm on a Friday and sat at the bar. Checked with the tender regarding recommendations and he validated the burger was good and provided a few alternatives. Stuck with the burger but went off-script with his recommendation for the baked beans as my side. Quick food prep and BAM! those baked beans made my eyes roll back into my head, they were awesome! Huge chunks of brisket plus some of the best seasonings I have ever tasted! The burger was very good but those baked beans were the absolute best. I should have just ordered a bowl of those. My bartender provided excellent service and was there whenever I needed a refresher or utensils or whatever. He was polite, friendly and knowledgeable. The ambiance was very good too at that time of day so I expect it would be good anytime. We visited here for the first time June 24, 2026. The food was amazing! The restaurant was not over crowded but a steady stream of people coming in and out. It was not too loud even with the World Cup playing on most of the TVs. Our waitress, Anna was very friendly, polite and helpful answering questions about the different items on the menu. She explained the different sauces and the preparation methods. Her insights to the menu were really helpful for our first time there. We ordered the 4 meats options to share and that was the best option to try the most variety for the two of us. We enjoyed everything we were served. I love the inside decor, but we decided to sit outside because the weather was way better than it was in Florida . I got the half chicken platter and added brisket and my husband got the bacon cheeseburger with the pimento cheese on the side. The food was delicious for the most part the macaroni and cheese was very dry unfortunately and the baked beans remind me of chili not baked beans but I love the flavor and they have a nice heat to them. The food is always so good! I was recently excited to see they now have a location in the Charlotte airport. We were in on a busy Sunday . They do have a waitlist on Yelp so you can check the wait or get on the list. The Sunday special is $5 bloody Mary's or Mimosas all day. I would give 5 stars for the food and the bartenders service. My South Carolina BBQ tour continues. Today it was burnt ends, hush puppies, bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers, and a pickle salad. I really enjoyed this place! Burnt ends were done to perfection (Kansas City is better but these are close) and I loved the smoke flavor. Bacon wrapped jalapenos were a really cool option as a side. Pickle salad was great to cleanse the palate. I wanted to order a jalapeno sausage link but at 3pm they had already ran out! Ordered the pecan cobbler for dessert and was not impressed. This was the only disappointing dish. Not sure why they call it a cobbler??? It is just pecan pie. It was just ok. Service was ok, nothing special.
