Hudson's is the quintessential family barbecue house. The ambience is rustic. The wooden tables may be a bit sticky at times, but our server was very enthusiastic and personable! The price is very reasonable; this is a place where you could easily throw peanut shells on the floor and no one would bat an eye (disclaimer: there are no free peanuts to nosh or shells to toss). Hudson's has a buffet. We checked it out quickly (looks like it had pulled pork and fried chicken and chicken livers as protein and a lot of cafeteria style sides and desserts). I guess if I were 30 years younger and had a big appetite I might go for that deal. After a short discussion, we ordered platters: two pulled pork, and one rib. My wife ordered chicken salad. When our orders arrived, we counted three pulled pork platters; alas, no ribs. Opps! Once my order hit the table, he couldn't take it back, so he promptly corrected the order and I got the benefit of double meat, i. e., a generous portion of pulled pork and my ribs. Pulled pork was quite tasty, but I think that I have made it just as good or better in a slow cooker. I really did enjoy my ribs. They had just enough meat and a brown sugar, dry rub. They were tender and not dried out, so I'll give Hudson's four stars on the ribs. I think the baked beans were advertised as barbecue, but our friend who had them said they weren't, but still tasted good. The mac in the mac n cheese was not over cooked, and it was quite cheesy, and I was surprised to find a few crispy chunks of cheesy sauce--always a plus! The slaw was fresh and well prepared. This was our first trip to Hudson's and our friends have been there several times but not for years. I have to give them a solid three. As I already mentioned, Hudson's a good-value dining choice; the BBQ is decent, but the sides are not much better than a K & W cafeteria. A great family Smokehouse! read more

I would strongly caution anyone considering Hudson Smokehouse BBQ in Lexington, SC after the way my family was treated. Two days after my wife's surgery, I went in with my daughter to order takeout. Instead of being greeted with even basic courtesy, I was told to go to the bar to order -- which already felt inappropriate since I had my young child with me. When I placed the order, the bartender's attitude was openly rude and dismissive. After I gave her my order, she shoved the tray with the receipt at me and walked off before I could pay. When she came back, she tossed the tray with my debit card and receipt toward me as if I didn't deserve respect. When I called her on it, she denied it with a sarcastic "I didn't toss anything at you--it's all good," then walked away again. The first manager I spoke to barely reacted -- she nodded, said "okay," and walked off. No apology, no accountability. When we called back later to speak with another manager, he offered a half-hearted apology but excused the behavior, saying the restaurant was busy and "sometimes the staff isn't at the top of their game." Let's be clear: being busy doesn't justify throwing items at customers or treating people with disrespect. If this is considered acceptable service at Hudson Smokehouse, it reflects serious leadership and training issues. I won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who values professionalism or basic human decency. read more

My daughter and I came here on Sunday after a long South Carolina Gamecocks victory. The buffet was $16 person and stocked with Southern comfort food! The fried catfish was tasty, as well as the pulled pork with their homemade Carolina gold bbq sauce. Collards were vinegar based and the fried chicken was really fried and crispy. I had a craving for fried catfish ,but was swayed and decided on the bbq brisket burger . I don't know why I didn't get that it would a burger topped with brisket . Chileeeee. The meal came with 2 sides . I opted for French fries ,coleslaw and added the mist have baked beans . I don't even know how to explain to you just how big this burger was . The serving sizes are immaculate! I truly believe 2 people could share this burger . It was such a THICK patty with pulled brisket , grilled onions ,melted cheese and burger toppings . This burger would be perfect for Jolly Green giant or maybe even Goliath . This is a MANS MEAL !!!!! there was no way I could consume even half . It was too much for my palette. I had to take the patty off and just eats bits of the brisket and sandwich toppings . The coleslaw was the appearance of KFC which in all honesty is my favorite type of coleslaw but this here was ... actually terrible .bland and flavorless . The baked beans were the biggest disappointment . Kinda like a canned pinto bean flavor . It was just so bad and it hurts my heart to say that . I tasted my dates mac n cheese ,it was decent just needed some salt and pepper . My date didn't speak while consuming his meal ,he cleaned his ribs CLEAN. He loves greens and says they were edible not his fav, says his mac n cheese was good and would eat them again . First Time visit. Great and clean restaurant environment. The weather was perfect for three huge outside dining patio they have. I was solo so got a bar spot and dodged the 15+ waiting to be seated. I was hard pressed to pick between Menu bbq or buffet. After a quick perusal the buffet chicken bog said pick me. The bog had baby carrots in it. And was very gummy. Needed a pinch of Salt. Wonderful wood smoke smell as soon as I exited my car on arrival. However it didn't make a huge memory on first bite of que. The collards and Green Beans were both very flavorful. Brunswick stew tasted very good, but don't expect a juicy "stew" on the buffet, it was very moist, but didn't need a spoon to eat it. My bartender was amazing a true triple threat. She handled to go offers, bar drinks and bar dining tables like a champ! Super friendly, smiling, and always moving with a purpose. Not sure I would come back for the food. This was a destination diner as I was traveling. It was quick and easy, buffet at 13.49 IMO was priced too cheap. After catering a large order and going to pick it up in the restaurant we were redirected by the hostess to the bar where we were met with one of the rudest employees we have ever met. As two older teens we felt disrespected and talked down towards despite our respectful manner. She continuously interrupted us and treated us like idiots, which would be understandable if the restaurant was at all busy when we arrived. It was not. While this experience was disheartening I would not like to discredit the work of the other staff members who were very helpful making and delivering us our food in the drive through. read more

I'm surprised at some of the bad reviews here. This was my second time here and we didn't encounter any issues with either visit. Restaurant and restrooms were very clean. Our server was very sweet. Now onto the food, delicious fried chicken, barbecue and all the fixings. Mashed potatoes were homemade and the gravy was top notch. Nothing we had tasted bad. It was all hot and fresh. Absolutely the best food ever! Wait staff are spot on. I only wish people would not bring screaming children in on Sunday. It totally ruins customer meals with out children. I had babies too. When our tiny baby started screaming I or my husband took them out as we are respectful of others. It's your problem as a parent to do the right thing. Every time on Sunday people let their toddlers or young children go loose in the restaurant. Really nice BBQ joint in Lexington. Large seating area with rustic appeal. Moderate noise level. A few TVs on the walls showing sports Service was good and restaurant clean. Our waitress even brought replacement drinks well ahead of us finishing the first ones, almost like she had ESP and knew we'd need them before we did. You can order off the menu or opt for their $10 buffet, which includes a few meat options, many sides and three or four desserts, but no drink (extra cost for that). A couple in our group had the brisket and they said it was excellent. I got the buffet and it made for a really good lunch - the pulled pork, fried okra, Brunswick stew, and hash & rice, all so nice. The food is ok. The service is standard. Ok. I placed two orders. One to go, one for dine in. After I completed and PAID for my meals, I waited for an additional 40 minutes for my to-go-meal. The waiter was very apologetic and said that he would ask the manager if they could do something. I had already paid and presented my Military ID (Veterans Administration ID) for their military discount. The OWNER, not manager, told the waiter that since I had already paid: no. Don't do anything. No future discount. No free appetizer, not even a comped beverage. This came directly from the owner, to a disabled veteran. I've worked in, and owned restaurants. When you make a mistake, you own it, and make amends. But not this restaurant. So I will never eat at this establishment, I will no longer recommend this establishment, and I will tell everyone in my veteran and social groups/organizations to eat at an establishment that respects its patrons. read more

Very nice inside and the service was great. My wife had the 1/2 chicken was was tender and moist. She loved the sides as well. I had the brisket and it was stringy and very hard to chew. Went here with our lunch group yesterday. Had seven of us and got there around 11:45AM...immediately seated and the waitress took our drink orders. Four of us ordered the buffet ($12 with drinks) and three ordered off the menu. Two of the guys ordered the bbq sandwich and remarked how good it was along with the fact that there was a ton of bbq on the sandwich. The buffet was great....lots of sides, desserts, choice of hash, rice, mash potatoes, brown gravy, collards, green beans, corn, black eyed peas (or small red beans, not sure), fried chicken, chicken fried steak, pulled pork with NC Vinegar sauce and choices of the other standard sauces, along with peach cobbler, chocolate and banana pudding. Hudson's Smokehouse catered a HUGE lunch for us at Prisma Health. They cooked the meat on site (BBQ, Fried chicken) and it was HOT tender, juicy and full of flavor! I'm not sure what sauces they brought but they were all delish. The cream corn was hearty and just creamy enough. Green beans were so-so as was the banana pudding. Our entire hospital staff piled on top of them all at once for lunch and they were super organized and swift! I never knew about this place before our luncheon. We love coming to Hudson's, especially for Thursday $1 Rib Night. Sometimes we'll just order bulk items and feast at home. Tonight we had a wonderful time, where our waitress Taylor did a spectacular job. She was very attentive, funny, and had great recommendations. Amazing! Local staple. While the Hudson's vs Shealy's debate will never be settled (I side with Hudson's) I have never not liked something. Ribs, brisket, and skins are the top picks. Hash is fantastic. Sadly their weakest item is actually the BBQ itself but their strong selection of sauces more than makes up for it if you sauce your BBQ. read more
