Nik just finished my basement and I am very happy with the work and final result. Nik stayed on budget, and was very pleasant and easy to work with. He did what he said he was going to do and was here when he said he would be. I hired him because I thought his insight into how to efficiently work around "old basement" problems and come up with really practical solutions was excellent, and that proved itself to be true throughout the renovation. Our timeline was what I expected it to be. They took great pride in their work and were very careful. The finished product is beautiful. The foreman showed up on the day we planned to start the project and asked me if I had the plans. I…read moresaid, "no, you should have brought them". He then jumped on the heavy equipment and started moving dirt around not knowing exactly what the job was. It didn't take him long to sever my underground gas line. Remorse? Concern? Apologies? Nope. The foreman was very amused at this dangerous and costly situation that he had just caused, and laughed so hard he almost fell off his machine. It seemed to be the highlight of his day. I was not amused. Chemical enhancement was definitely in play as I could smell the marijuana on most of the crew. Lots of laughs! The foreman seemed to take great pleasure in deriding the stoners he worked with in order to demonstrate his superiority. He referred to his crew as "Dogs" or "Slaves" instead of using their names. Said crew did not seem to be trained in the art of brick paving whatsoever. I found them laying bricks on top of grass! I made them take that grass out and instructed them on how to lay the base material before laying any brick. I obviously did not catch all of the mistakes because two years later, as you might guess, the patio is falling apart. And their claimed two-year warranty? Forget it. They are not coming back. I wish I would have gone to look at that mess before hiring them.

The estimate was provided after…read moreStuart came to our home to view the layout, etc. He was one of the lowest estimates we received; by around $100, and went with him because of the cost and we also knew someone who had hired him several years prior and complimented his woodworking. He cut several baseboards too long, and kicked them forcefully into place, causing corners to split. He said during the estimate he would angle edges, he didn't do this and in the middle of the job, when reminded, he angled some edges, and not others. He seemed frustrated for at least 1/2 of the job, complaining about our layout, known at time of estimate. There were sharp nails left sticking out of the baseboard, and multiple nail holes that were not caulked, so are very visible. Prominent corners were left with gaps. He chipped the door casing in several areas and did not rectify it. Several corners were not matched up/aligned. He smeared paint from the baseboard painting on the floor, quite a few areas were left dirty. He scratched some of our walls putting the longer baseboard pieces in, leaving white marks on our darker paint (very noticeable,) white paint drops were left on our flooring and wall from baseboard painting. He locked himself out the 2nd day, causing interruption of an important work meeting, which he was informed about ahead of time. The top baseboard caulking was inconsistent, and nails, dust and other debris were left at the end of the job, easily scratching our new hardwood floors and left out for our pet to walk through and us to clean up. He did not initiate a final walkthrough and rushed us when we initiated one. We paid him the agreed amount and a tip due to our layout. After reviewing the work again when he left, we saw many areas of subpar work. He came out later that week to correct what we pointed out, it was better, but nowhere near quality work. We were considering staining toe board and he brought over some stains he had for us to try, that was nice of him. We had beautiful new hardwood floors and instead of the baseboards finishing and upgrading the look it did the opposite. Overall, we were very upset with his lack of quality work and had to hire another contractor to redo unacceptable work. Absolutely cannot recommend.

He said he was a skilled finish carpenter with over 40 yrs experience & is capable of completing the job as discussed. The completed work did not match the original design or the agreement, including a frame and sill cut to the wrong size, a center support piece that was not replaced as promised, and composite sills installed without approval. The 2 windows are noticeably different, they stick out further than the other 7 windows. sent messages & emails to Stuart offering an opportunity to correct the work, but received no response. I had to hire another contractor to remove and redo the entire job. I would not recommend him for any carpentry or detailed home repairs based on my experience.

They told us about the guarantee on their own carpet line that allows a "re-do" if you are not satisfied with the carpet for any reason. We kind of laughed, because we couldn't imagine anyone doing that, but it ended up that we weren't happy with our choice and when we asked them if we could replace it with another color, they were completely gracious about it. Their installers were really skilled and did a great job. We will definitely return to Carpet One when we new flooring for other parts of our house.

I have had Main Floor Carpet One Floor & Home (on Main St in Royal Oak) complete projects in my business, rental condo, and now my home and have had very positive experiences each time. I've had vinyl wood planking, carpet, carpet "squares," and now vinyl tile installed. The process from choosing materials, measurements, ordering, installation has been smooth without any unpleasantness. I do think that I'm easy to work with and that may be the reason I have had no issues. I'm very happy with the experiences I've had with this business.
