I got a bit confused when trying to find stuff, and it's kind of cramped in the aisles, so I kept running into people on a busy Sunday afternoon. I saw an interesting sushi sandwich with seaweed and salmon, so I can't wait to try that sometime when I'm nearby for picnic. Great location to pick up some fresh food and take to the lake for an instant picnic.

This is not Coop pronto or those tiny one has only half of what other regular size coop offer. They carry a variety of little snacks, drinks, and fruits. I love how convenient they are. When you walk in, to the right you will find a variety of yogurts and drinks. Personally, I find their coffee beverages superior to Migros. I'm not a fan of the super sweet coffees, and Coop's "Zero Sugar" cold coffee is large and the perfect flavor. Migro's "espresso" cold coffee is a bit too sweet, and about half the size. To the left you'll see a little buffet area that allows you to pack a quick snack if you're in a hurry. They have a variety of cold and yummy things, such as beet salad, potato salad, cucumber feta tomato salad... etc. And in the middle or slightly further back they have a wide variety of baked goods. I feel like no matter where I go I'll happen across mouth watering berliners filled with sweet fruit goodness, or perhaps a buttery warm gipfel, or maybe even a juicy sausage wrapped in dough. Bah! Too many delicious options. Also as I said before if you're able to make it past the baked goodness you'll find the fruit and other fresh produce in the back. Ich schreibe in Deutch spater. I unwrapped the fragrant bamboo leaves and devoured the sweet, savory, and slightly spicy goodness of glutinous rice stuffed with shitake, mini dried shrimp, pork, cooked peanuts, and salted duck egg as soon as I got home. This item didn't qualify for the 15% discount, but it was totally worth it to find one of my favorite foods in Zürich. Totally yummy, but knocking one star off for price. Chinese vegetables like Choy Sam which you'll get for about $1 a bunch in Chinatown in NYC is almost CHF 5! Kimchi is out of the question--I only saw about 4 brands, in small glass jars of in plastic bags (very strange) and they were 8.95 for the largest jar which I could prob eat in one sitting easily. There are LOTS of sauces like hoisin, black bean, Szechuan, various hot sauces, soy sauces, fish sauces, etc. I saw curry pastes in more varieties and sizes than at Chiang Mai, but the prices were comparable. The best thing about this place is the ramen selection because they have an entire row dedicated to Korean brands and Shin ramen is CHF 1.45 a packet, no discount for buying in bulk or in the 5-pack (so unfair!) which is the same as an overpriced corner market in central Manhattan. So although it is hard on the wallet, what is a Korean girl to do? You need your ramen once in a while. There is a sizeable dumpling and various dim sum selection section and seafood including calamari, shrimp, squid, scallops, etc but I'm still not used to buying seafood in frozen form instead of fresh like you see at any Whole Foods or in a Chinatown. I'll have to update my review after I actually try the pork frozen dumplings I got such were CHF 20 for a bag (JEEEEEEEEzus) which again, in NYC Chinatown would be about $5. I was disappointed by the produce section because in Korean markets in the U.S., that is the best part with tons of selection and unbeatable prices. Unfortunately the produce they had was scarce and incredibly overpriced. I might as well go to Coop in Sihlcity for more variety. I did notice that what they had seemed fresher than Barkat but I may have visited in the earlier part of their delivery schedule. I've posted lots of pictures of the variety of products they have but as someone who doesn't cook Asian food often, it was hard to tell what most of the stuff was. I did find packets of ja-choy (the "Chinese kimchi") though so will have to try it. Also although they had credit card machines, they demanded cash. Not cool when you're spending CHF 50!

It's open early and open til late (6am-10pm is late). They're one of the few businesses that's open on Sundays. Switzerland is known to be the most expensive country to visit which is absolutely true. Most go to Coop as a "hack" by buying food here instead of going to restaurants. Food is affordable here. They have deli meats, jamon Iberico, baked goods, arancini, cakes, pastries, pizza, sushi, sashimi, cups/ bowls of fruit, etc. I came here the first time to grab snacks like chips, Barebells and drinks. They were giving away protein shakes right next to the checkout counters. You do have to pay for shopping bags. If you need utensils, you have to pay for that too. The second time I was here was to get bandaids. The staff was helpful in pointing me to the right direction. Third visit was to compare prices for chocolates. I got Lindt chocolates for cheaper at Lindt Home of Chocolate.

The tomatoes are great but I feel they are more flavorful because they're older/riper than those at Coop or Migros. There is a good selection of fruit displayed outside and inside the store but I couldn't find my favorite: berries! No strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries. Also no kiwis or cherries :( oh well, there is a halal butcher and an amazing selection of couscous and a mega sized yogurt, not surprising. I loved seeing the diversity of the clientele but unfortunately I can't do all my food shopping just here and I'm looking for a one-stop shop which I will reluctantly have to rely on the Sihlcity Coop to fulfill. Like Lianhua this place is sizeable and the shelves are chock full of products but most of them are not part of my regular grocery/ingredient list so maybe I'll need to switch up my palate and recipe staple. There is a wider selection of household goods that you may need like cleaning liquids and napkins, etc than Lian Hua down the street. They actually take credit cards which is great and there was a plentiful supply of herbs which I love--mint, rosemary, oregano, parsley, cilantro, and so on.

Although I do not speak Swiss German, I did not have any problems interacting with cashiers. Note that most stores not at a train station close around 7 pm during the week and are closed all day on Sunday. Also, bring a tote bag for your purchases. Finally, I did not have a chip-and-pin credit card (just magnetic stripe), but, as of this review, it was not a problem to use.
