Wow. Where to start. Even when the place was empty when we got her it was difficult to get any service. Had to flag down the waiter and wait 30 minutes to order drinks. It doesn't end here. The place got busy and everybody started smoking hookahs and cigarettes inside the building while we're eating. I thought it wasn't even legal to smoke in a restaurant. Now for the good part, when we were ready to leave we asked for a check. After half an hour we still didn't get our check and flagged down the server for our check again. At this point we're being held hostage to pay a bill! It took an hour to finally get our check and pay. When we got the bill they charged us $10 to eat! There was no mention of a charge just to come in. This is literally the worst service we've EVER seen in any establishment. Not only that but they robbed us of money we didn't know we had to pay. We were held hostage for an HOUR to get a check and they are not even legal. We're calling the city on this place and reporting everything. We have video and pictures of everything. Really enjoyed the homemade pita. Warm and delicious. Ordered the Shawarma Combo, beef and chicken, and it was superb! Ordered take out for the first time. They are offering dine in services and there is outdoor seating. Tried the mixed grill plate for 1 and a vegetarian platter. We have eaten here for over 4 years. Today we drove all the way from Casa Grande(65 miles). I called first to see if we could dine in and was told it was available. When we entered the restaurant we were met by a young woman who immediately told us it was carry out only! I told her we were informed that fine in was available at the Tempe location. Her reply was that there was only a staff of 3 people and they have a big order. I asked her if she was telling us to leave. She said that no one will attend to us because they have a "big" take out order! We left.... this was the rude staff and customer service I have experienced in a long time. We felt as though we didn't matter and from the beginning of the encounter it was clearly communicated that we had little or no priority. I will NEVER return to Mijana again!!! We went here for lunch today! Really impressed with food and the service! Cathy was our server snd was so helpful as we asked her for suggestions!!! We ordered a lunch for two. Filet Mignonette, chicken, kaftas, and lamb chop Las! Appetizer of hummus and homemade bread! It was awesome! Nice glass of wine with it! Then for desert we had Baklava! Wonderful!!! This place was just ok. I ordered the lamb chops and it was way over priced. For 30.00 I don't want to see French fries on my plate with an amateur cucumber salad. But it was good. The restaurant itself had an ok atmosphere, then again my friend and I were the only ones inside. Hanging from the ceiling were these disgusting fly traps and an annoying fly that kept bothering me, and quite frankly, ruined my meal. The waitress was very friendly and bubbly. I liked her. Excellent service, excellent flavor in all foods. I am not a vegetarian and I even enjoyed those dishes. All foods are Halal, which I found out is very similar to the Jewish kosher preparation. One of the worst restaurant experiences we have ever had. Horrible service, even worse manager. Drinks took 40 minutes to arrive, the food came another 40 minutes later without any explanation of tardiness. The check took another 40 minutes to arrive. We later learned that the poor excuse for a manager is making the wait staff tend to be hookah bar next door. No wonder everything is so slow. We came with a Groupon and will never return. We also watched another table complain to the manager, who proceeded to verbally assault her, and cause a huge scene in front of the entire restaurant. Their service is amazing but on top of that their food is mind blowing especially hummus with pita bread, fattoush salad( must recommended). Went to Mijana last night ordered their martini a chicken kabob platter and the gyro platter. The complimentary bread and dip was fresh and tasty. The martini tasted more like vermouth. Both dishes were extremely dry and we waited more than the average time for them. The service did not make up for the lack of interest in the food. There were only about 5 other tables taken in the restaurant so ability to be attentive shouldn't have been an issue with service. Very average food for the price quality. We had the beef shawarma which came out more like ground beef instead of pieces of beef. My biggest gripe was the Groupon. We ordered an entree and three appetizers. The waitress would only accept a Groupon for two entrees, we literally spent more than the price of two entrees but she would not accept so had to eat the full cost of the meal. First timer hoping to get some amazing Lebanese Food. We ordered the Chicken Biryani, Chicken kebab sandwich, and Tabbouleh. We were served complimentary pita bread which was hot & puffed up straight from the oven. They gave us an olive oil dipping sauce which had basil and different kinds of seeds in it including sesame seeds. Nice bread and dip! The biryani presented as some yellow rice at the bottom of the plate and many small pieces of chicken on top. The chicken looked dry and when we tried it it was super dry. Hubby said, "I can't it this, I won't eat this". Wow. Usually he makes due with his dishes but after I tasted it, I realized how right he was! The dish was exchanged gracefully by the server who explained that the chicken is cooked first and then it is cooked a second time when it is time to serve. That explains it! In its stead, we ordered the ground meat kebab which came with yellow rice and a salad--a Much better dish. The tabbouleh was really good. The chicken sandwich, wrapped in a warm pita, was good & fresh, but the chicken lacked flavor. Chicken has to marinate in spices and herbs for at least 24 hours if you are to get any type of flavorful meat when you grill it. I ate most of it but the motivation to finish it was not there. The chicken I did eat I did so because I dipped it into the yogurt sauce they served with the meal which was really good. But the chicken should stand on its own without any add on's. Later in the evening, a belly dancer began her performance and it is too bad that most people were chatting away and not really paying attention. She did her best to entertain the crowd. Food wise, Mijana should improve its flavor profile especially on the meats and of course overcooking meat is a sin of great proportions. read more
