We made a last minute decision to tryout Smokehouse Abilene on Mother's Day when our other favorite…read morebrunch spots were full. They had a special brunch buffet going on but we opted for the regular brunch menu and it did not disappoint! My husband had the Smokehouse breakfast, I had the a Biscuits & Gravy, and we shared the pancakes. We didn't get our servers names but she was very sweet and friendly! We loved it all and this is definitely going to be on our regular rotation for brunch spots!

Here are my food, service and ambiance thoughts:…read more Food- One star. The ceviche was tossed in some sort of sauce reminiscent of ketchup. Why??? (chips were pretty good) The salmon was overcooked and the grilled broccoli practically raw. This meal was so underwhelming it reminded me of maybe something you might pick up in a grocery store in that section where people who don't cook go to get ready-made meals. It was right at that level. Service- Two or three stars. Mediocre. I've been here once before, btw, and that experience was probably an overall 3-star. This time was right before a show at the convention center next door. You'd think that maybe the restaurant would have been prepared for a crowd? Apparently not, since our food was slow to come (the table next to us had both of their steaks comp'ed due to slow service and not being cooked as asked). When I asked for a wine list, the server stated that he would "try to find one", and it took awhile. And the restaurant was probably only about 60% full. I mean, if I'm going to wait forever for my food, at least let me be drinking while I wait! The appetizer arrived with our food, btw. Love that... Ambiance: Five Stars. The restaurant looks nice. Get your act together, Smokehouse! It would be nice if we could count on a nice meal before a show without having to Uber to and from the hotel/venue for it.

Worth the Drive Every Time - Reliable, Delicious BBQ for Family & Events!…read moreWe've been coming to Natty Flat Smokehouse on Hwy 281 for years, and it never disappoints. It's a bit of a drive from Granbury, but 100% worth it for consistently great Texas BBQ. The meats are always smoked perfectly with excellent flavor and tenderness, we love loading up on brisket, ribs, sausage, and whatever else looks good that day. We've dined in multiple times and also ordered big family plates to bring home for parties, holidays, and events. Everything travels well and still tastes fresh & huge hit with our whole crew. The sides are homemade and solid (the mac & cheese and potato salad get mentioned a lot in our house), and the portions are generous for the price. The rustic, down-home Texas atmosphere is part of the charm, friendly service, plenty of parking, and fun shops nearby (like the giant rocking chair spot). It feels like true Texas Hill Country hospitality. Whether you're stopping in for a quick lunch or catering a gathering, this place delivers "Dang Good BBQ" every visit. If you're anywhere near Lipan or Hwy 281, make the drive. You won't regret it we keep coming back and bringing friends/family with us!
