Unfortunately, the county inspector later failed my final walk-through inspection because of a defect with the soffit installation. I called him five times over two weeks, asking him to come back and correct the problem. Each time, he was very polite on the phone and promised he would come the next day. He never showed up. I have no problem paying contractors fairly and even rewarding good work, but I expect them to stand behind their work when an inspection identifies a problem. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend him.

Within a week he was able to see my home and give me a quote. Throughout the process, I added on several services like painting the garage and painting the ceiling in the lanai. He was able to handle all my requests in a timely manner. Since I live out of town, it was very important that I was able to trust the person to give the keys to and have them go in and do all the work. I hired Aaron in September 2024 to address water leaking from our master bathroom shower, which had…read morecaused drywall damage and mold. He charged $290 to re-caulk the shower, replace the door seal, and repair the drywall. He also claimed he found no moisture behind the wall using a moisture reader. Unfortunately, I noticed staining reappearing shortly after. After multiple delays and excuses, he returned months later and said a faulty gasket was likely the issue. I paid an additional $180 for the part and labor in January 2025. Despite repeated, polite follow-ups, he never returned to do the work and eventually stopped responding entirely. Now, in June 2025, we've discovered water stains on the kitchen ceiling -- directly under the same shower -- confirming an active leak and likely structural damage. If he had followed through promptly, we could have avoided what may now be a far more expensive repair. I'm out nearly $500 for incomplete and ineffective work, and I'm incredibly frustrated by the lack of accountability or follow-through. I would not recommend this handyman to anyone.

Then I got a few more emails from him, each very rude. I wrote saying to never mind and that he'd lost a job. DO NOT USE THIS MAN. If there was a negative rating, he would get that!

Carter's Painting and Repairs has not only never let me down, but also they continuously exceed my expectations and I find them to be one of the few companies I can trust. Their knowledge is superior, their customer service is outstanding, and their painting and repair/construction jobs meet even my husband's standards and my husband is a professional engineer who is a hard hard man to please! Carter's Painting and Repairs has also saved us a considerable amount of money because their prices are so low. For the first four jobs they did for us, I got quotes from 5 other companies each time. Carter's Painting and Repairs quoted the lowest price out of all 5 companies each time. And their price was much lower...not just a little bit lower. At first, I was worried about the quality of their work because the price was so low. But the quality and skill that went into my home painting and repairs was superb. The first job they did was to completely rebuild a room (home office) in our house. They knew more about the structural components of the building then any of the other companies. They completely tore down and then rebuilt the walls, put in new floors, and painted the room to where it is now better-looking than it was when we first moved in and the walls are thicker and stronger (more sound-proof) than before. The next job they did for us was to paint the entire exterior of our house. And all I have to say about that job is "wow!" They use PPG paint which is the highest quality paint (even better than Sherman Williams). We had our house painted 7 years earlier by another company and the paint job was thin and thus really did not improve the appearance of our house. But this time around, we used Carter's Painting and the paint job was extraordinary...thick thick coats of paint made our house look new again! And every detail was meticulously tended to with exactitude and skill. Carter's Painting and Repairs listened to everything I said before each job and really delivered a service / product that was precisely what I wanted. And there was never any added "surprise" costs. And I needed a few other jobs done (roof, fence, and window all damaged when a tree fell on a section of our home) that Carter's Painting and Repairs does not do but yet they helped me figure out what repairs were the most necessary and they made sure I was not ripped off by another company. They have saved us SO MUCH money and they have made our home like new. They have also given me peace of mind because I know I wont get ripped off when I call them and I know the job will be done right...no cutting corners. They have also replaced a large section of exterior boards on our home, and rebuilt and stained our deck. All jobs were done perfectly at a low price...hassle-free and quick too! They are always willing to work with me...they work with my schedule and they dont seem to mind that I can be a picky and demanding customer. Yep...5 stars for Carter's! read more

We couldn't be more pleased with the exterior paint job done by Mike Carter and his team. Both he and Donna were very communicative and it was so refreshing to have someone that went the extra mile. Some of the fine touches seemed like he was painting his own house but it's clearly indicative of the pride he takes in his work. Never heard from him again after several attempts to contact him. I even called their main office to complain and ask that John Firestine ( the retired owner) would call me. nothing. No return call, but I actually got Carrie on a follow up call. She said she would inquire with the owner, and get back to me. Days later, no return call. Again, I got Carrie on the phone on a follow up call. They could do the work for us, but the first opening would be late October. We agreed that would be fine, and if anything else opened up to please let us know. We requested a quote as well. Just a few weeks later, Carrie called my cell but didn't leave a message. I called, talked with Stephanie, who said that Carrie was working on having one of their workers take on our job at his location to get us in earlier. Wonderful! Carrie was out sick and would call me to make arrangements. A week later still no call. I got Carrie on a follow up call. She explained that Ely could do our project, earlier than the late October date, and that he would contact me. Another week...no call. I called yet again, and minutes later Ely called, but said he had to check on things and would call me back. Three days later, no reply from Ely. I called Carrie, and she said Ely had knee surgery, and he would call me. Another week goes by, and no answer from Ely or Carrie. Carrie texted me at 9:30pm to have the doors dropped off at Ely's the next morning. That's way to short of notice. We work, have kids, and needed to secure a trailer to deliver the doors. I was also going out of town. I thanked her, but asked if we could wait until I returned the following week. When I returned, and followed up, no one would return my calls. Carrie eventually texted me, again late at night, asking if I had heard from Ely. I expressed that the whole thing has been frustrating, and I feel like I am chasing after them to do work we want to pay them to do. She then said she no longer works for Carter's, to call Stephanie, and that when we first talked they couldn't do the work until late October. If that's the case then why spend several weeks to set up the work to be done a month earlier? For the last week I have been 1. Leaving VM's for Carter's and Stephanie to return my call to set up the work. No response, and they aren't even picking up the phone. 2. Trying to find out if Ely is even a legit licensed and insured worker for Carter's. 3. Still waiting on an estimate we have requested several times. 4. Have contacted the owner via Facebook begging for help to clear things up and ensure that the worker Carrie set up on behalf of Carter's is actually licensed and insured. This has been the most bizzar and unprofessional experience we have ever had with a contractor or home improvement service. We were completely ok with waiting until late October to have the work done. CARTER'S initiated moving the work up, and then fell off the face of the earth. All you have to do is return a call. Absolutely no way would we want to hand over doors we've spent thousands on to have work done on them by someone who may or may not be a professional. I have screen shots of the text messages, FB messages, and phone logs showing all of my calls just asking for assistance, with no return calls from the last 1-2 months. Shame on us for not pulling the plug earlier, but we really wanted to give Carter's a chance. We're moving on to someone who actually wants the business.

In addition throughout the process it has been frustrating that contractors leave a mess I guess they expect the homeowner to clean up after them. NOT the case.
