Royalty Construction - Uneven and sloppy cuts with exposed underlayment and unsecure positioning

    Royalty Construction

We hired Royalty Construction for a major deck build and siding project, expecting professional…read morework completed in 3-4 months as stated by the owner. Instead, it dragged on for nearly 6 months into the winter, with constant delays, 4 hour days and incomplete work. After we finally told them not to come back for some "finishing touches" and cleanup, they left the job in a shoddy state full of cosmetic defects and safety issues that fall well below industry standards. The crew's behavior was unprofessional from the start. Workers showed up with profanity-covered clothing, smoked pot on the job, and casually flicked cigarette butts onto the ground. Their trucks leaked fluids all over the yard, killing a huge patch of grass with no effort to contain or clean it up. They placed equipment and materials directly on the new deck without any protective blankets, leaving numerous gouges, scratches, and scuffs that ruin the appearance. Quality issues are everywhere: -The deck was supposed to be picture-framed on all sides -- they only did 3 out of 4 so uneven cuts are visible. -Missing lag bolts in the deck frame that somehow passed inspection. -Unlevel deck boards creating tripping hazards. -Gaps in the trim and siding large enough for bugs and pests to easily get inside. -Unsecured soffit sections. -They lazily covered visible screw holes on the roof with loose, cutout scraps of fascia material that don't even match or stay in place. -Roof flashing and trim work is sloppy -- large areas where the underlayment/weatherproofing is still exposed that will let in water. The overall craftsmanship looks rushed and amateurish, see for yourself. Joints don't line up cleanly, finishes are inconsistent, and there are visible stains, wear, and damage throughout. This was an expensive project over $100k, and the end result feels like it was done by the cheapest crew possible with zero pride in the work... I even tried multiple times to get the owner back out to look at this final product and he has still refused to make it right, exclaiming we told the crew to not come back (we were leaving on vacation for 3 weeks and didn't want them there while we were away, it was supposed to be done by then!!!). All of this in addition to the owner getting caught lying through his teeth regarding product pricing. He convinced us to go through his contractor pricing with a local distributor as opposed to our family discount we got with the same company, only to find out the massive markup of the price from a simple color change in materials, all confirmed with the company after the fact. I would strongly recommend against hiring this company. Save yourself the headache, delays, property damage, shadiness, and ongoing repairs. Look for a true professional outfit that actually stands behind their work. One star. Extremely dissatisfied
