Thien didn't do any better. Thien only told me what I already knew: my tooth hurts when I eat or drink things that are hot. Felt like a waste of time and money for this "expert" opinion. He even said that my tooth had no bacteria in it that is causing the pain. A quick check on Wikipedia did far more to educate me on what is happening. It is almost guaranteed that there is bacteria in my tooth's pulp that is causing the swelling and pain, especially under hot food/liquid conditions. Now I thought I might fight this off with antibiotics, but Wikipedia's excellent article pointed out that this is usually not effective and therefore no longer recommended. Thien's office was completely empty and you can tell they are hurting for business and they will always encourage you to get a root canal even if there is a possibility that your tooth could slowly die in place and remain trouble free for a very long time without getting any root canal treatment (check Wikipedia pulpitis article.) While Thien didn't specifically say "I recommend you get a root canal", what he did was comical. He told me I have three options: 1) do nothing 2) pull the tooth out (are you crazy?) and 3) get a root canal. When he gave me the last option, he stared straight into my eyes for about 1 minute, as if he was trying to will me into saying "I'll pick door number 3!" What a joke! I can't say if his service is any good because I have not and will not use him. His office seems dated, his diagnostic techniques were crude, his equipment looked old, and his professional advice is not keeping up with modern advancements. I went to Root Vision Endo in Lakewood more than 15 years ago and at that time they were more advanced than this place is today, plus they are always busy there doing one root canal after another. You know where I will go if my tooth gets any worse!

It is very telling when every other doctor of any specialty in the area that I have spoken to not only knows the man but respects him deeply. When I mention his name the usual response is something like, "Oh, he was my mentor!" or, "I sent a patient I couldn't help to him." He does not take insurance but does find the least expensive way to test and treat anything he finds, and believe me, if there is something there to find, he will find it even if all others have missed it. He will take time with you and you feel like you are talking to your friend, not your doctor. If you aren't feeling well and live in the area you should take this opportunity to see him before he leaves his practice!

I've never needed an oral surgeon before or since (double yay!), but would happily go back to see Dr. Goodsell anytime. He yanked my teeth and left me in one piece, my recovery was fast and relatively pain-free. He even saved my bottom molars for me - which were the size of bear teeth - I kid you not. :-p

I'm not sure how long my dad had to wait, but the total time in the office was over 90 minutes for something that takes half that time or less with most other doctors. Still, since the process was started, we stuck with Dr. Fein. Well, the next step was supposed to be a IOL master measurement. This is required, but my dad would have had to get it at a different place and then also see another doctor who works with Dr. Fein at that office. Let's see... 82 years old and in a wheelchair. Drive. Park. Do appointment. Drive. Park. (and pay for parking each time) Another appointment. That's extra trips and extra hassle. And extra expense. For those that do no know, a Jones Tube is an almost microscopic tube that is placed in your eye so that a natural tear duct will form. At the time, my parents were told that eventually is would need to be removed -- again, his expertise (and possibly my luck!) no extra surgery has had to be performed. I currently live in No Cal and I called Dr Fein a few years ago and not only did her remember me, he took my call promptly and gave me a proper referral. I know that back office operations can cloud a judgement of a doctor and I hope that his gets alleviated promptly. Speaking from other reviewers comments, aside his pricing he is an EXPERT in his field and takes his reputation seriously and I don't think anyone could blame someone for having pride in their reputation and work. Its interesting that all three previous reviewers only gives one star and only to doctors...
