Our experience with Aire One left us feeling misled and uneasy…read more We only discovered an issue with our fireplace after it suddenly stopped working. Aire One came out, issued an infraction, and told us the fireplace was "not up to code," then quickly pivoted to selling us a full replacement. No recall was cited, no clear explanation was given -- just urgency and pressure. What we later learned is what really concerns us. The fireplace wasn't simply turned off -- the gas valve had been physically locked. That's not something that happens accidentally. Someone had to deliberately do it. Even more concerning is the timing: this only happened after Aire One had recently replaced our furnace, a job that would have required shutting off the gas line. It's hard to ignore how "convenient" that is. When we questioned the infraction, my wife researched the fireplace thoroughly. There were no recalls, no safety notices, and no reason it should have failed inspection. Meanwhile, Aire One became difficult to deal with and repeatedly failed to follow through. On the day they were supposedly coming to replace the fireplace, we were told by dispatch that the crew had "broken down" on the way to our house. Later, the story changed: suddenly they weren't coming at all because they claimed the job would require removing brickwork -- something they said they wouldn't do. That raises an obvious question: If they supposedly couldn't do the job, why were they allegedly already on the road to our house when they "broke down"? We eventually contacted another HVAC company and spoke directly with the owner. Before we even finished explaining, he immediately asked if we had dealt with Aire One -- and then told us he hears stories like this often. He explained that they've developed a reputation for shutting off and locking fireplace gas valves, issuing infractions, and pushing replacements. He came over, unlocked the valve, turned it on, and the fireplace worked immediately. No repair. No replacement. He even helped us get the infraction removed. I can't speak to Aire One's intent -- but between the locked valve, the unsupported infraction, the push for replacement, and the contradictory explanations, the whole situation felt sneaky, misleading, and unethical. I strongly recommend getting a second opinion if Aire One tells you something in your home suddenly "isn't up to code."

I called Comfort Plus because I was smelling gas from the fireplace I purchased from them in 2012…read more He took my fireplace apart and found a slim, small piece of foam in it. Since I know I didn't take it apart I can only speculate it was there from the time it was installed. When putting things back in place, I noticed that the plate that covers the hole in the wall was about 1" from the wall. He told me "It was he best he could do". He put the rest of the fireplace together & turned it on. I told him that I could still smell gas. He said that it wasn't as bad as when he got there and that it should go away. It didn't and for this *Professional job* I paid $408.16. I called Comfort Plus a few days later to tell them I could still smell Gas and was told by a woman that she had gone over the work order and "It was the best they could do". So, I was living in an unsafe house and that didn't matter to them. I turned the gas off and called another company on December 4th. He came the same day. Ali could smell the gas as soon as he turned it on. Thought it might be a cracked burner and, therefore, the gas fireplace had to be replaced. I was told by Comfort Plus and another company in Waterloo that a new unit would cost $3900, However, I was able to buy a new one from this gentleman for $2400 + tax, installed. It was installed the following week. Now that's was I call excellent customer service. I tried to get some money back from Comfort Plus because they did not fix the problem and was told by the woman that she had talked to the owner and "they did not feel that they had to return anything". So, to anyone reading this - make sure you check out the company you call for help. Even though you have dealt with them in the past, people and companies do change and NOT ALWAYS FOR THE BEST. If I could give them less than 1 star I would, Probably minus 5 (-5) stars would be more suitable. Diane M, Cambridge, Ont.

I don't understand why I wanted to buy one out instead of renting as I have never had a problem with reliance. Once they came to install something spilled downstairs and I believe it was old paint so we cleaned it all up and aired out the house. They came back after lunch to start the water tank and left said it would take a couple hours for water to get hot. Waited and it was still cold. Called them back and they came and said because the paint had a smell in the basement it killed the sensor we need a new one. Then they say oh and by the way you have to pay couple hundred dollars for the new sensor but we won't charge you service charge to come by. My husband was livid and said no. They shouldn't have started the water heater if they knew it still smelled like paint. So I have been paying 38 monthly and have no water and they haven't called or said anything. They just want your money. Then my furnace motor wasn't working so they said you should buy an new furnace even though it's not even 10 years old or they could fix it for 600. My husband said no and he got a fan motor for free at recycling and installed it himself for free. The gentleman seen my review on google and called me why I gave him a bad review. I explained and he said he would see if he could get me the sensor and I am still waiting to see if he is a man if his word. I will let you know. But from what I have seen so far I would stay far far away from this company. If I could give them a 0 review I would
