Took my 91 year young Dad there due to his other barber (another shop on Detroit) retired. This being close to Dad's house, we stopped in. As other reviews stated, Ron greeted us like we had been there a million times - very friendly and kind. He helped the previous client up out of the chair, brushed him off and helped him put on his jacket! I knew I came to the right place for my Dad. As Dad got trimmed, Ron put on Herb Albert's Tijuana Brass Whipped Cream album (which was for sale along with a bunch of other stuff). Dad got a great cut and I bought some fun stuff for a buddy's rec Room! Win win. read more

Mike's place doesn't need my review. He's been there 40 years. However, when I was there, I mentioned that I found them on Yelp - and that I would add another 5-star rating. BTW: these guys had no idea what Yelp was - which was pretty much a great reason to go there to begin with ;) ... that said, they were very happy to hear that they received good reviews. So here's my 3 cents; in case you're like me and want to know what to expect from people that will be wielding very sharp objects near your temples: A barber shop is primarily about cleaning up your mug, lid, noggin, scalp, and whatever hair happens to be above your shoulders right? ... Kinda ... but for men I also think it is a good excuse to get away from it all for a little while - drop the weed-wacker and head to the modest little oasis on Madison Ave ... Mike's. Nothing fancy here. A few sport caps on the wall, a quiet TV, some magazines, some random artworks and photos - each of which has a purpose or story (just ask), and 2 really busy bird-feeders just outside the window. A nice serene display to watch as you lower your ears a bit. The place is clean and welcoming for sure. You can choose between Mike and Ron. That's it. They are each there 5 days a week - and the only day no one is there is Wednesday. Enough said. Ron opened up first when I was there and he did a great job. 15$ and I tipped him $5 since I inevitably didn't make it too easy on him. These guys are obviously experts and they're willing to spend time tweaking if you request it. Not only are they great barbers, but they are great to talk to - which is exactly why I'm sure they get a steady flow of customers at any given time. This was a wonderfully pleasant visit to a barber shop! Ron was the barber for the day, and he greeted us the moment we walked in the door. We only waited a few moments before he was ready for my husband. Saw great reviews for this barbershop. Unfortunately my experienced with Ron was not good. Nice enough guy but After I asked him to clean up around my ears he buzzed it up too high and it was completely uneven and spotty. He said "Well that's what it is". Total miscommunication. I told him I wasn't happy I was just going to leave and go somewhere else then he threatened to call the cops if I don't pay. I never said I wouldn't pay. He just took it real personal and started getting a bad attitude. Not skilled. Not professional. Will never be back here. Be cautious. read more

Ron is great. He greets everyone when they walk in the door and makes sure everyone knows he's happy you're there. The other barber and owner's name is Mike, but he wasn't in when I visited. The place is a pretty straight forward barber shop with no frills and no appointments needed. Ron checked with me a couple of times during my haircut to make sure everything was to my liking. He even trimmed up my neckline with a straight razor at the end to make sure I had a very clean and polished look. It was only $15 + tip (cash only), so it was a steal compared to the $31 salon I had previously been going to. I'll definitely be back! read more

Ron is a great guy. He is not only a fine barber, but he is patient and determined to give you precisely the cut that you want. I was in early today (first timer) and was lucky that there was no wait. I can imagine that there are times when it gets busy and you might need to wait a while. As Ron mentioned, note that they have a parking lot in back. (If it is full, and you are in a hurry, maybe come back later.) read more

I had went to Mike's a few times to have my beard straightened and trimmed up with no issues. However today I went for the usual beard trim and came out with the sides of my hair looking terrible. I hadn't even asked for a haircut and somehow the sides of my hair by my ears got cut off about two inches and weren't even level with one another. I'm not even sure why he would touch my hair when I simply wanted my beard lines brought up and beard length brought in tighter to my face. I ended up having to immediately go somewhere for a hair cut and the girl who cut my hair asked "What happened?" because it looked that horrible. He didn't even mention he had touched my hair or apologize. read more

Great place. There's often a small line of folks waiting for haircuts here, because both barbers do a really good job. I've always been very happy with the haircuts I've gotten here, really good value for the price. They just added sunday hours, which is even more helpful, because the place can get pretty busy on saturdays. read more

I've become a regular here after Mike offered me a donut as I waited! This is a classic barbershop - 2 old guys that love cutting hair. Period. I always like to support the town I live in and it doesn't get more local than this place! The only downfall is the wait time can be long, but who wants their barber speeding through their haircut anyways! Relax. Bring a book. It's an experience. Oh and it's only $15! read more

On my first visit to Mike's barbershop I got a beard trim and a little bit off the top from Ron. Ron is a nice guy and a great barber. I was satisfied with the outcome being a first time customer and because it was my first time Ron only charged me for a beard trim as a nice gesture. Both are very skilled and very social and have a TV to watch, tons of magazines to read if busy or you can simply join the conversation as I've done numerous times. Ron & Mike are the best! This is a good, old fashioned, neighborhood barbershop, not the hipster imitation. Very friendly but also very efficient. Just because they engage with their customers in conversation doesn't mean that they aren't getting the job done in a timely fashion. So even if there is a wait, things generally move along pretty quickly. They do all the beard and mustache trimming and shave your neck, all at a very reasonable price. Plain and simple I have been going to see mike since I was 10-11 yrs old now I'm in my mid 20's recently mike brought on Ron which is one cool old dude !! Both of them are polite have great attitude and most importantly THEY HAVE SKILL !! I have been cutting my hair myself for the last decade because not a single stylist ever got it right. Today I started to cut my hair and just decided I didn't want to do it. So I got on Yelp and found these guys. I may have just received the best haircut of my life. Ron, my barber, is a true professional. Instead of him listening to me babble on about what I thought I wanted, he asked me a series of questions that led to answers he would not have to interpret.
