Came here for the first and it was amazing! I have a hair pulling disorder and wanted to get an undercut to help prevent more damage. My barber was Joe D and he was so nice! I explained my situation to him and he never questioned my "breakage" or bald spot. I wish more stylists/barbers were aware of situations like this because it's embarrassing to talk about and the questions they ask make people with this disorder more insecure but Joe wasn't like that, he made me feel comfortable. For once in over a decade, I was able to relax in the chair and not feel on edge. Have to give a shoutout to Mikes Custom Kuts from todays experience, I went to the location at The Walt Whitman Mall, they just opened about 2 months ago. Walked in for a cut while I was passing by, the place was bumping and every chair was filled, but the guys came to greet me and told me it'll be about 15-20 min for a walk in, so I waited up. Got cut by Joey the manager, and he was super personable, down to earth, and knowledgable about cutting hair, the guys been doing it for over 20 years. He gave a solid cut, good tapeup, helped the beard get shaped up and also trimmed eyebrows and all. We talked about plenty of things from Los Angeles to Food, and it was a great experience and a respectful cut. Just walked out of Mikes Custom Kuts about 10 minutes ago, had to write a review: After my beard was butchered by another shop, did some research and found Mikes (I don't even live in Suffolk County). Got my beard trimmed and shaped by Jay. Not only was he personable, he was Incredibly knowledgeable, took his time, gave me tips on how to grow out my beard, and actually had a plan on how to shape my beard as it grows - THIS is a real barber. Jay has a ton of experience as a barber/hairstylist and it shows in the quality of his work. I didn't mind the drive, it was well worth it. Shop was clean and had a great vibe. Thumbs up, 5 stars! I came here on a recommendation and with no appointment. The guy who greeted me was nice but then I was farmed out to the unfriendly timid kid with no apparent license. I sit down and tell him what I want and he proceeded to not do what I asked for. I had to convince him to use the straight razor as he tried to convince me the buzzer was better. Why offer a service that you can't provide?? Then he used some shave gel in a large container as the, preferred standard, hot shave cream dispenser was "empty". He shaved my neck like it was his the first time he ever did it, I have to go home and finish it. Then to top it off they only take cash, but you'd have to know that because it's not prominently posted and it's 2021 and who doesn't take a card? Anyway it was my first time and last time there, thankfully I had enough cash on me to get out of there. At least he buzzed my head right, that's about it. read more

**fixed my review because I never read it before posting and realized my thoughts were not very clear When it comes to kids, not my place. I brought my toddler here (who usually LOVES haircuts) and it was not a great experience. To start, when I entered the shop there were three people. Person number one sat in the back right hand side one his phone. Person number two was in the first chair on the right side giving a hair cut, and person number three was on the left side first chair giving a hair cut as well. Now, before I start, let me make sure to explain: maybe this was just an off day for everyone. For starters the place was beautiful, clean and well maintained.- that's as far as my positive experience goes. This was my first time there- not in a barber shop- just first time in THIS barber shop. I am "newer" to the area and I was hoping to find a barber closet to our home- we typically travel about thirty minutes to our current barber. Maybe I didn't understand the way this shop works- i walked in and was immediately uncomfortable, I'm used to being greeted "hi, how are you?" Or "hey, what can we do for you" even a "yo what's up why you in my shop" would have been sufficient at this point. Instead I stood at the front door wondering if I should stand there, sit and wait our turn, or just grab a seat. Person #1 (phone guy): never even turned around. Person #3 (left side- in front of me): had acknowledged my entrance with an eye roll and continued his haircut- when he finished his haircut- he STILL never said hi, instead he grabbed his phone and did his thing. Person #2 (right side): finally spoke after about three mins of awkwardness- in all fairness he was doing hair and was truly paying attention not on his phone- he told man #3 to do my sons hair. The gentlemen who was asked to cut my sons hair was not happy at all. My son began acting out (which is not this mans fault) at this point the whole experience felt like a mess and I didn't feel welcomed and now my son was being a handful- I was ready to leave. There was not communication on hair style or cut between me and the barber. Actually, there was still not even a hello. In all fairness maybe he was a mute- The final result with my experience was this: I was disappointed with the haircut- and I should have spoken up- I try not to be insulting to someone who tries- but the more I look back at the situation this was not a lack of skill, this was just someone who didn't want to do his job for whatever reason. I paid, and while leave another patron entered: and what do you know? He was greeted. I was definitely insulted. And maybe this was just a "chance" situation. However, I will not be coming back to find out. I did go and have my sons hair fixed by his barber- whom he had no problem climbing into the seat and sitting for. I tried this placed based on yelp reviews. I sent my husband there as well (prior to our trial) he said he doesn't love it because no one can give a good cut) in all fairness- he is picky with his hair and no one lives up to his barber back home- I happen to think his hair looks great- although he does have a lot of cuts when he comes home. I can't comment on his actual experience because I have not been there for it. My husband had been there about four or five times- he likes to cycle around to see who he like best first- he wasn't thrilled and is no longer going to be a customer. read more

Central A/C for me is a must as I get hot and sweaty easily and I have never had an issue with being too hot under the plastic apron thing. We took my nephew here for a haircut today. This place is very clean and has a nice modern feel to it. I think my nephews barbers name is Nick - he was very friendly and took his time cutting my nephews hair. My nephew is very happy with his haircut. They are a little pricier than most hair cutters but it is well worth the money. We also did not have to wait. Mikes Kuts is conveniently located off 347 and has ample parking. I highly recommend coming here for a haircut. In fact I wish I had more hair so I could get my own custom cut! read more

While they prefer appointments, on a hunch I went in and asked about their best hot towel shave, and a haircut. It took lots of preparing with no notice, Mike Klaus, the fellow who took me was super accommodating, explaing step and it was a really terrific ecperience- great shave, fine conversation, and a very good haircut. I kept gong to them even when they moved a few miles down on Terry Road. I always liked the quality of the haircuts and the general friendliness. I stopped being a regular when one of the barbers went out on their own, but I still used them as a backup.. That brings me to today. I needed a haricut for an event I have this weekend. My barber was on vacation so I went to my trusty backup, Mike's Custom Kuts. I walked in and no one said "Hi", do you have an appt.. nothing. I sat for 10 minutes and still nothing. I decided that if this business does not value its walk ins, then why do I need to stay here wasting my time and for $30 for a simple haircut. I had to leave a review after my sons last haircut. It couldn't be more precise. Mike was so detail oriented and was patient with my son. I showed him a few pictures I liked and he was able to replicate a style as my son had the "right" hair for it. He communicated how I need to style it at home, and what products need to be used to get the same result. Gary butchered my hair. He cut the entire top off that I keep long, pretty much gave me a wonky crew cut. Idk if he was on something that day or what but it's been a few months and it still isn't completely grown back, I had to wear a hat for at least two months it was that terrible. I put out a Facebook post asking about a good barber. Multiple friends pointed me in the direction of a mutual friend Ray Altamura at Mike's Custom Cuts. I gave it a try and I now won't go to another barber again. He gives great cuts and is on point when it comes to reliable. Recently moved to the area and was worried about finding a barber shop that catered to my needs. I was tipped off about this shop from a friend/barber who works on the other side of the island. For another barber to recommend your shop, who is not employed by you you have to be doing something right. My first time in the shop I was a little confused since it's an "appointment only" type shop but I was greated immediately by the man I was looking for, alex. He was on his break and told me he could fit me in right now with no problem. I must say that I've never received more compliments or have had such consistency in years. After knowing him now for a very brief period of time, Alex has stayed late on his day off to accommodate me and make sure I got a haircut in with my crazy schedule. To me that is customer service and with an an employee like that, you have received my loyalty and a customer for as long as I live here. read more
