Since my original review in 2016, Mike and his staff are still some of the best in the area, with respect to musical knowledge and teaching ability. Both of my children's musical abilities have grown on an almost exponential level. He truly cares about teaching and he has a great love of music. He has fostered and nourished their love of music and he has been instrumental (pun intended), in their continuing journey. I was incredibly heartbroken when Mike suddenly passed a couple of months ago. This amazing man and musician with a heart of gold has left quite a legacy. I want folks to know that he leaves behind a son who is busy trying to expand the business his father worked diligently to build up. They've hired a couple of new talented folks to boot. Please consider them for lessons during this odd time of remote learning. You know, when you first walk into Mike's, you'll immediately notice how small it seems inside (there's plenty of room to sit, don't get me wrong...but it's not a very big place). Yet...there's SO MUCH energy and so much music in there. You can just feel it. Off to the left you hear a young girl singing something rollicking. To your right you hear another student plucking chords or finding fingerings. It's like the school sequence in the 80s movie Fame...something happening everywhere, with heart. The place just says "music" in every way. I think much of it, or perhaps all of it, is down to the teachers. The teachers simply love teaching. Again...you can feel it. For us personally, our violin coach, Miguel, was fantastic...so enthusiastic, so interested, and so flexible. As long as my son was learning technique Miguel did not neglect the "I love to play" factor and really made things engaging and fun. He was worth his weight in gold for what he gave to our son. On a less woo and more practical note, their rates could not have been beaten. I was pretty surprised, I'll put it that way. You do have to pay on time (opt for the autopay, it's easier). There are also goodies inside so hungry students can have a bite and a drink before practice. I would recommend Mike's to anyone, and in particular, the wonderfully talented, patient and energetic Miguel. Thank you, Mike's. read more

I have been bringing my daughter to Mike's for several years and we love it! She has taken lessons from several teachers and been a part of the band program. We truly love every teacher she has had and I cannot tell you how fantastic Mike and Chrissa are as well as how much she has learned and grown from working with them. She has such a love for music and they have been there to guide her every step of the way. I tell everyone I know who wants to enroll their kids or even themselves in a music lesson to go there! I brought my six year old son to mikes guitar world to see if he can take guitar lessons. Mike the owner said he was a little too young for guitar and suggested the ukelele. Well it's been the best decision we've made. My son loves playing the ukelele and it's small enough for him to wrap his little fingers around. He's only been going to Mike's guitar world for about three months but he's learned so much. He can play Rudolph the red nose reindeer and is also working on thunder by Imagine Dragons and Imagine by John Lennon. Mike has a lot of patience for my six year old son who has a lot of energy. He's figured out a way to keep my son engaged during his 30 minute lessons. Mike also involves the parents during the lesson. At the the end of my sons lesson Mike will call me in and go over what they worked on together and gives me some pointers on what he needs to work on for the week. Overall, Mike's Guitar World is GREAT!!! We are very happy to have my son take lessons here. Hopefully in a couple of years we can transition my son from the ukelele to the guitar and we're definitely signing up my daughter for some piano classes when she gets a little older. If you go to any of the local facebook groups and ask where to take your kids for music lessons, chances are you are going to see Mike's Guitar World come up time and time again. I started my kids there on a recommendation several years ago and I'm so happy this is where we landed. Mike is super cool and laid back and definitely has a ton of experience working with kids. My daughter literally cannot wait to go there weekly to meet with her voice instructor Chrissa and Mike has recently presented the opportunity for my kids to play in a band. My daughter sings and my son plays guitar in it. They really work with the kids on their level and use their experience to truly bring out the best talent in each person. I have friends whose kids have gone to Mike's since they were little and are now in bands that have achieved a lot of recognition and success! Another plus is that it's affordable so it doesn't totally break the bank if you have more than one person you want to enroll. I highly recommend giving Mike a call if you are in search of a great place to either start your child as a beginner or have them grow more into their instrument. Alright, alright. I had my doubts about a guitar store owned by Mike Dirnt. But Mr. Dirnt PROVED ME WRONG. He sold me a Fender Stratacaster for only $14 but I don't know if it was real or not. Also Mrs. Dirnt cooks the most incredible lamb chops I've ever had. After getting a Fender Stratacaster for the unprecedented price of $14 he offered me to have dinner with his family. BEAUTIFUL, the hospitality offered by Mike is very heart warming. Also on many occasions would loan me money when the times got rough, all for the love of his customers, great deals, great home cooking, and a bitchin guitar that he sold to me for peanuts. Both cannot wait to go to music every week! My boys are completely different and each of their teachers fit their personalities so well. this place has been an extremely great environment! I've learned so much begin taught by mike , I have grown as a musician extensively since coming to MGW. Not only does he try and teach a way the student will understand more but he's also more than a teacher , he's a friend.
